That was actually pretty funny. Of course that scene, that I used to have in my av was from this episode. I kinda wished that Huey took on “Crazy Bitch” and “Big Nigga”, but Huey more than likely would’ve died if that happened. The ep order still seems a little weird and random now that I look back on how things were. Despite that, at least in terms of animation Boondocks Season 2 was pretty consistent, altho some eps suffered really bad in the beginning. The comedy factor varied but all in all it was pretty good I just wished that even with the silly stories within them that some were fleshed out more or at least resolved.
Props go to Studio MOI for filling in for MADHOUSE since things didn’t work out for them. They did a pretty decent job, I just wished they did the entire season.
Although it was funny, I’m not sure if I want to buy it on DVD yet. As poorly animated as the first season was there was a bit more substance, not that I didn’t like the over the top comedy of the 2nd Season, I just wished there was a bit more balance and not just shock value eps-and then ones that weren’t that funny at all.
I have to agree with you; one of the reasons I love Boondocks so much is because of the messages they preach.
Season 2 seemed to have more emphasis on Riley and his shennanigans, as opposed to Huey and his ideals.
Still, it’s one of the greatest shows on television.
I enjoyed the second season MUCH more than the first. The animation has improved so much, it’s almost hard for me to watch first season eps. The preachiness of the first season has definitely been downplayed, which is fine with me, considering the stuff they replaced it with is just hilarious. Stinkmeaner Strikes Back, Tom, Sarah and Usher, Ballin’…most of the episodes this season are just too good. I’m buying this the day it comes out on DVD. I hope I don’t have to wait 2 more years for the next season.
Funny ep! I liked how they faked the effect of a handheld camera during Ruckus’ Reality Show. And dang Reggie Hudlin really got it! I can see why it didn’t air seeing as how his name comes on the opening credits. Wedgie Rudlin LOL! They even showed his Black Panther comic!
That’s the one main thing I loved about this season over the first. They cut down on the pseudo-sermons and stuck to just being funny (which they’re good at).
You know I laughed so much at the BET episode, but it does prove a point from what I remember I think Aaron Mcgruder and several other people banded together and protested against BET and taking it down. One of the people against BET is Spike Lee.
Its because while the show was actually pretty entertaining–a good majority of these episodes could be watched in any order because there is no real ongoing story in Boondocks (animated). It was basically a showcase of an American-based project successfully out-sourced to pretty decent overseas animations studios, like back in the 80’s when cartoons were good. The difference is that Boondocks is just episodes of stuff happening. Its really funny but for me alot of the value I had for the eps was lost pretty much the credits roll. There were a few I watched over and over don’t get me wrong but as a whole there’s something missing.
Season 2 was good I’m not saying it wasn’t its just there are times where you’re left empty. The 2 banned eps were pretty good–but even as a collective whole theres something missing.
I doubt a Season 3 is slated, it could be but I highly doubt it. If anything he may try for a movie but McGruder might be burned out from Boondocks. The main thing I think also came into play is he has access to go animation studios so he also wanted to showcase things he couldn’t do before so that seems to have superceded any actual story within the show compared to 1st season.
One of the big differences to me was how Tom was treated. In the first season he seemed like a flawed yet well meaning character. In the second season he really got put through the ringer. I’m sure the second season is more closer to how the character is supposed to be depicted, being named after Uncle Tom and all but I oddly felt bad for Tom during this season, especially after Tom, Sarah and Usher oooh… If Tom Sarah and Usher would of aired last season I probably wouldn’t of cared about Tom or anything he went through.
I dunno, I still think Ruckus is a far worse than Tom ever was, yet he kind of walked away in the second season unscathed. Last season Ruckus crapped in his pants, caught 2 beat downs and it ended with him getting struck by lightning bolt, this year he got a couple of lumps in the Katrina episode and that was kind of it…
So I think the depictions of the characters are just kind of off between seasons 1 and 2. If they stick to their guns with how Tom and Ruckus are treated in season 3, like season 2 then it should all work itself out with time.
Pound for pound I still liked this season better than the first season. Like others said, the first season was more preachy and this one was more comedy. I do feel that they should of focused on more characters this season then they wound up going, but all in all I was still laughing all the way through, even during Tom Sarah and Usher.
I’ll get the DVD, give it to my brother for his birthday and after he watches it I’ll make a copy for myself. That’s what I did for the first Boondocks season. Not for nothing but the first season came in at FORTY DOLLARS when it came out. Are you kidding me? LOL for that price I can get 65 episodes of Duck Tales. For half of that I can get any TV season that has 26 episodes. 39.99 for 15 episodes? Someone had to be joking when they came up with that number. Well if they do that again, I’ll buy one copy to support to give to my brother as a present and just make a copy for myself. Same thing I did with season one.
No shit? Seriously? I lived for the intro of that show alone…
And yeah. This season was less preachy since the plots spoke for themselves. It’s like showing someone how dumb they are by just having them watch a tape of themselves being dumb. Just letting a man’s actions speak for themselves.
Black Evil Television. I can see why BET wanted it off the air pronto.
Yeah man most video stores will have Duck Tales in the kid’s section lol! Volume one is a little over 20 and has 30 eps, volume 2 is about the same price and has the rest for season 1. Yeah I was exaggerating somewhat, but still. 40 dollars for 15 eps is too much man Boondocks is not even anime… A season of Teen Titans, Justice League, Birdman and so on will run you 15-20…
jesus this shit was ridiculous. this episode solidified ruckus as one of the funniest characters ever on television, his monologues in the beginning were out of control, especially the shit about black frats nad him drivng the bus but not letting huey & riley on lol. too good.
It could be possible. That episode was technically supposed to be the season finale (if Uncle Ruckus Show and Hunger Strike aired in the US on the time that they were) so I would actually think that Riley is gay come a 3rd season. He admitted to it but I can see him saying in a new episode that “That shit was gay nigga” in his ordinary fashion and not actually be gay about it.
