Boomerang Super and You! - Meaty Round Harvest Setup Discussion

I know most Trish players knows this setup by now, but seeing how this advanced setup is an important part of her game play, I thought it would be interesting to make a thread where we can discuss setups, tricks, shenanigans and whatnot. Besides, the Trish forums needs some love.

What is the Meaty Round Harvest Setup?
By doing her Round Harvest Hyper Move right after she knocks the opponent’s character down with j. :s:, they will be forced to block the boomerang super for as long as it lasts (approximately 3 seconds) when they are getting up. Unfortunately, because the Boomerang comes from Trish herself, she will be affected by the opponent’s Advancing Guard thus making her unable to apply more pressure. However, by tagging another one of her teammates during the Hyper Move (Raw tag or DHC), you will be able move freely and apply more pressure while they are still in blockstun from the boomerang since that new character you control is not affected by your opponen’t Advancing Guard! This trick gives you enough time to set up unblockables, mixups or deal insane amount of chip damage while your opponent is pinned down by Trish’s boomerang super.

High / Low Assists
This is a list of assists that forces your opponent to block either High or low. They are the key element to set up unblockables after Trish’s Setup.

High Assists

Individual Setups
Some characters can set up their own unblockable setups or tricks during Trish’s super without the need of an assist.

X-23 [Silent Kill] - By doing X-23’s level right after Trish’s Round Harvest super, you get a guaranteed level 3 hit since her’s completely unblockable. Like Shuma’s level 3 Hyper Move, you can get them in her level 3 while they are in blockstun.

Shuma-Gorath [Chaos Dimesion] - Pretty much the same thing as X-23. Activate Level 3 Hyper as a DHC and get them in while they are blocking for good amount of damage.

Hsien-Ko [Anki-On + Low] - As seen in DandyDLC’s video, Hsien-Ko can set up her own unblockable by throwing an item that hits High and hitting low with one of her normals. This set up can only work in the corners.

Felicia [Kitty’s Helper + Low] - If you DHC Trish’s Round Harvest into Felicia’s Kitty Help Hyper in the corner, you can set up an unblockable by hitting low at the same time the Kitty assist hits high. It works best in the corner as, when done in midscreen, the Kitty assist takes too long to get to the opponent.

C.Viper - [Focus Attack Lvl.3 + Assist] - This setup works best in the corner. During Round Harvest’s blockstun, charge C.Viper’s Focus Attack and call an assist that will pin your opponent down in even more blockstun even after the boomerang vanishes so that you Focus Attack land as an unblockable. Example of assists that works well with this setup are Doom’s Molecular Shield, Amaterasu’s Cold Star, Dante’s Jam Session or Dormammu’s Purification or Dark Hole. There are other assists that works well too - experiment.

Mixup Heavy Teammates
coming soon…

Discuss shenanigans, tricks and potential teammates for this particular setup. :karate:

The bolded note has to be wrong. It’s an unblockable hit. Not a grab. One of the best ways to land it is to put the opponent in blockstun and follow-up with this before they can recover.

With my team Trish/X-23/Skrull you can do Harvest, raw tag Skrull, A1, j.H or S, c.LMH, S, MMHS, dash j.dH, S, j.MMH, exchange until Trish, j.MMHS, Harvest and repeat. Also, Harvest, raw tag X-23, A2, mirage feint mixups

This is a really good thread. I will sit in the lab today and work on some stuff.

Oh alright, my bad. I thought it was a grab. Will be fixed.

Thanks, mate. Please do, I’m really curious with what we can found with this setup.

Also, unrelated note, I remember you from the Morrigan Forums in TvC. We play the same characters - Morrigan in TvC, Akane in AH3 and now Trish in this game.

Regarding Hissy’s Item throw Unblockable Setup

The particular item that spawns is random right?

So what happens if a bomb comes out? Will the unblockable still be effective?

Depends if the bomb itself hits as an overhead. I’m not really a Lei-Lei player, so I’m going to test that later and come up with a better answer.

I don’t think the bomb has a hit box till it explodes a few seconds later sadly…

Couple quick ideas if I may (I would test this, but I don’t have the game or system to play it)

-Compile which setups work mid screen (because the demo vid was all corner traps)

-Introduce setups which allow safe useage of the boomerang super itself, such as what attacks blocked will still be safe enough to toss the super out or what assists.

-Follow up combos which help to rebuild meter quickly and setup for trish to come back into play to launch her boomerang again

Noticed that in the demo video that the combo with chun rebuilt a full meter… possible abuse if we can get a safe DHC back to trish and then tag back out. Not 100% sure it would be possible but worth a shot. For example, after chun finishes her combo, get the opponent back into guard stun with a combo and DHC into trish boomerang super, then tag out to complete the loop)

Defiantly a play style I am going to follow as time goes on.

Combo into round trip followed by raw tag with Doom and a successful low assist plus jump-in/footdive will kill any character in the game as long as they eventually land in the corner. If you’re midscreen, all you have to do from there is guess a roll or stand up. All this for just two levels.

The only way to get out is to do an alpha counter with an invincible assist.

I’ve been trying to land my unblockable setup midscreen (C.Viper (High) + Sentinel cr.:m:), and I’ve had a really hard time catching the opponent in time after the raw tag. Problem is, when they advance guard, they still get pushed towards the corner, so I can’t land the setup in time because I’m not close enough (and yes, even if I wavedash with Sent).

Aside from Level 3 Hyper unblockables (don’t quote me on that), I don’t think many unblockables are guaranteed mid-screen because of what I explained above. If you can land one mid-screen, you’ll likely have to guess a roll and have an high/low assist that covers a lot of ground (Like Felicia or X-23), but it’s not 100% sure you get it right.

Problem with that is that Round Harvest Hyper is 20+19 frames startup which means they have a lot of time to either jump and block it (and avoid all high low mixups at the same time), or just punish with a faster super. This removes the possibility of making the super safe after a blocked string or whatnot.

With assists, though, it can be possible to make it safe and throw it out while they are in complete blockstun from the assists, so I might add those setups in the first post.

DHC’ing while they are in blockstun from whoever’s Hyper is not really an option because of what I explained earlier. Unless it is a true blockstring, people that knows will just jump and avoid any unblockables aside from level 3 Hypers unblockables.

What I do to to make a Round Harvest setup loop is use a Team Aerial Combo after the unblockable in the corner, knock them down with Trish, rinse and repeat.

So it goes like this:
Trish BnB combo into knockdown with j.:s: >> Round Harvest >> Raw tag Sentinel >> Unblockable with Viper and Sent >> Sent BnB into TAC >> Trish BnB into knockdown >> Round Harvest…

c.L-c.M-c.H-S, j.M-d+H, slight pause, qcb+L, j.H-S, land, round harvest

Although not very damaging, this causes the knockdown very close to the ground. This gives you more time to get your character in to setup the unblockable.

In the corner lots of people try to roll forward and then forget to block the raw tag(which comes from the corner) standing and combos the Round Harvest.

heres a vid of it in action:

this should work with taskmasters sword master unblockable too.

For those that dont know you can unblockable with zero by dhcing into sougenmou and perform his up teledash into h then goin into crouching heavy this will allow for you to go str8 to his corner loop…and for those tryna do the unblockable mid screen ur best bet may be to use a teleporter like phoenix dante dorm to make sure it connects

If you do it with Taskmaster’s Swordmaster unblockable + Dante’s Jam Session, you can do it so the unblockable hits and then the last hits of Jam Session juggle them up for Taskmaster to continue the combo without using meter or X-Factor.

Does the Trish+Viper unblockable work with Dr. Doom’s Hidden Missile assist? I don’t know if you can call it early and get it to hit during Viper’s focus charge like other moves do. Could it work?

Hidden Missiles take too long to come down - there’s a gap in between the Round Harvest block stun and the missiles keeping them held for the remainder of the Focus Attack charging up.

Zero can also get the unblockable with Sougenmu.

is the back dash before the round harvest necessary to keep the opponent locked in the corner after the raw tag? is the back dash part of the setup?

It’s not (I don’t think) but backdashing makes the most of how long round harvest stays out. At least that’s what i’ve always saw it for. Considering they’re going for an unblockable setup, if they’re tagging out and the opponent rolls out of the corner they’ll cross themselves up (assuming the opponent doesn’t know/realize it). Though even with the down back air dash, if they tech roll forward and Trish tags out, they still get crossed up. So it’s either eat RH (and possibly stay alive) or eat the unblockable and die.

oh, i didn;t know that they eat the round harvest free when they tech forward, but you still have to stay in front of them right?
