if you’re talking about normal jump height , then yes, storm can hit a flying Morrigan
Been playing Storm for a while and a question I’ve had is how does she handle characters that have that really threatening range?
Characters like Hulk, Vergil and Dante. I can play these matchups out with other characters, mostly, but it seems like characters with huge normals REALLY have to mess up to eat a clean hit from Storm.
Sentinel, Haggar, She-Hulk not so much. These characters don’t really have that threatening “BUT I CAN ALSO DO THIS” option when you block something or when they whiff.
I’ve had better luck in these long-range/heavy matchups with Chun-Li and that’s not an exaggeration.
i agree and wondered the same thing. I have Jill on my team and fair much better against those matchups with her.
XF3 storm is a different story, but if Storm is last on my team something went wrong, LOL.
Yeah, like
I guess the matchups wouldn’t be so weird if Storm didn’t spend a million frames committing to everything that involves keeping the opponent out. I, myself, am perfectly fine with running away for an entire set, but each action she can use to keep an opponent out requires like five minutes to complete. If I need to get on the offensive in order to not get sniped by random fists or swords, then I would need a more solid gameplan. Sucks, I kinda wish her instant overhead game was a little more threatening.
Oh, that reminds me. Does anybody have any tips on abusing j.:l: or is FCing the better option for low to the ground overheads? I’ve been experimenting with tridash j. (which sometimes works as an accidental crossup somehow), but j.:l: doesn’t seem to give Storm any reward at all, so I’m wondering if this is like c. where I think the move is total ass and am just not paying attention to something important.
storm doesn’t get anything from a j.L, and honestly I’d just go for the better hitbox of j.S. Cr.M is for easier hit-confirms off of a Cr.L. j.M kinda hit above storm’s head, so maybe you could do something with that.
So a few tests with Storm today:
-
First, if you are tridashing, you can get normal combos from anything off of j. or stronger. If you want a natural combo off of a tridash :l:, you have to superjump it OR you have to land the normal tridash :l: counterhit OR it has to be the DEEPEST normal tridash :l: you’ve ever done in your life (completely unreliable for this game, I think).
-
Second, Storm technically does have an instant overhead game, but it is EXTREMELY awkward. For the record, by instant overhead, I just mean doing a normal as you’re rising; no float cancels. More on those later.
-
From instant overhead j.:l:, you don’t get anything except a pretty solid mixup. No natural combos unless the j.:l: is counterhit and even then it is no 100% reproducible.
-
From instant overhead j., this is where things get wonky. You can either immediately ADD into falling j.:l:, ADD into grounded c.:l: or do a second j. and ADD from there into a combo. These are all natural. The problem with this is that j.'s startup makes this not so “instant.”
-
j.:h: does not instant overhead.
-
j.:s: has an inconsistent instant overhead success rate. This depends on the lightning’s quivering motion and the enemy’s crouching stance and is not 100% reliable. If j.:s: hits, you can ADD into c.:l:, s. or c..
-
Float canceling seems to be the way to go for reliability out of s. and c.:h:, but Storm seems vulnerable to pushblock, so your blockstrings can’t be too long if you intend to jump cancel into your floats. FC j.:h: is the normal of choice here, especially since you can go immediately into c.:h: once you land for a beefy combo.
Just in case anybody was wondering (doubtful), if you do rising j.:h: on Sentinel, you can airdash out of it (or chain into j.:s: and airdash out of that) into another air normal, land and start a combo. I use this to avoid command grab/c. unblockables while trying to get him to start ducking since rising j.:h: does not hit crouching Sentinel. This string also applies boatloads of pressure when combined with an appropriate assist and very few can survive the mixup if you have a good enough tridash game after that. Just some food for thought in case anybody needed it.
Damn I never Updated this thread.
