Bloody-Knuckles: The "Main Event" featuring TW Season 1 Finals 2/28/2010 3:00pm

the stream would have been bigger had we had more chance to advertise i’m sure but i think we had like 60~75 views if i’m not mistaken

When the stream was hot and sweet we peaked just a little over 100 if im not mistaken

Yeah, once it started deteriorating we lost people pretty fast.

We were given the okay to run the stream. So I don’t really understand the complaint. As Raptor mentioned, the prize and that streaming would be taken care of were talked about on Dustloop. Neither of which happened. I believe someone else also mentioned that BB finals were supposed to be on the big screen, which also didn’t happen.

But… yeah, not something you have to worry about in the future.

It’s occurred to me there has been a very serious accusation… though it doesn’t come directly from HappyStick.

In the end, whether bandwidth was being “stolen” depends on whether or not people were supposed to be streaming BlazBlue CS. Someone made a post regarding that, and I’d like to address it (since it didn’t go into detail)

The things Polka’s post refer to are in the Dustloop thread created by HappyStick.
For anyone who doesn’t feel like browsing through the site, I’ll link his posts directly here:

Initial post: http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=542474
Stating the finals will be on the projector & reference to the BBCS setup he secured (didn’t have it at the event though): http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=567110&postcount=6

Reference to Spark volunteering to bring his taito x2, increasing the # from 1 to 2: http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=568165&postcount=9

Mentions he’s aquired some ChImp boards as prizes for “the singles tourneys”. At best, unnecessarily ambiguous: http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=572199&postcount=13

Hellfromabove mentioning someone should bring their streaming equipment: http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=575339&postcount=15

Happystick posting the stream is “taken care of” & will post the URL soon (it was never posted): http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=575403&postcount=16

Happystick thanking DL guys for bringing their own hardware (does that include the setup for streaming? …I don’t know), bracket software, & apologizing for the chaos: http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=576604&postcount=21

So, at the day of the event, before the tournaments started, I checked out the recording setup and had a chat with Slash5150. Turns out the equipment present was insufficient for recording from the Taito x2 (The hardware that runs BlazBlue outputs via DVI, the recording setup required component input (iirc)). After I realized this, I brought it up to HappyStick who said he’s aware of it (I hope he meant he just found out or something?). So I mentioned we still have equipment for streaming and he said he’ll leave it to us.
Considering it was posted that BlazBlue would be streamed, and the limitation was based on lack of equipment… I thought the BlazBlue players who brought the streaming equipment were doing HappyStick a favor.
Of course, if it actually wasn’t HappyStick’s intention to stream BlazBlue, then I guess they were stealing Bandwidth.
From the look of HappyStick’s last post on Dustloop, he seemed appreciate of our involvement (http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=576604&postcount=21), but when I looked here on SRK it doesn’t quite seem the same.
HappyStick, could you post directly regarding this matter?

I’m not actually upset if my post seemed that way. I figured the Grrr helped to imply it wasn’t very serious.

Yea dood. Danny’s definitely not the angry type. I’ve actually never seen him upset.

But anyhow, ya’ll need to calm down. Although, I’m probably the last person that should tell anybody to calm down.

Nah, that’d be Josh.

Lol yup. I charge if you want me to flash on people i dont know hahah

anyways. BK was dope as fuck. from what i saw, everyone was having a great time. i dont go on dust loop so i dont know the situation, prolly should just handle that with PMs. portland cats are dope as fuck. shout out to rayblade, good shit man! and mackenzie, tell fatbear to come up for some hk bistro. then you can bum a ride and we can play 3s hahahaha.

the setup the I had for BB:CS which would have been compatible with Slash’s gear was deemed to be utter garbage by Jais so I bagged it. it was the leaked version.

I remember someone from the DL people telling me that setup that was running wasn’t going to work with the streaming equipment. nobody asked me for permission to setup another stream, nobody asked me for the password to the AP.

as for the prizes, the prize list has been posted on the Bloody-Knuckles and in the OP of this thread in the OP of the DL thread. if you want to go back and dig out evey post I’ve ever made on DL you’ll see that I mentioned trying to get support from Arksys and got no reply and that BB would be a cash pot only. I only mentioned the dual mod prizes because I know some of you play SF, fuck Jais took top 5 at the gallery opening.

as I think I’ve made abundantly clear, I’m not a professional at these thing, this is the first time I’ve ever curated a gallery show, or run a fighting game tournament. I’ve already appologised for the chaos, I’m sorry I couldn’t get your finals on the projector.

yes I am happy that you guys came out, I’m not happy that this petty bullshit is going down.

preppy please lock this thread.

IMO can we keep this thread open to be able to discuss what actually went wrong as well as improvements that can be done for future events?

All videos that I have recorded at BK are here

http://www.youtube.com/bloodyknuckles2010

there are also Stream VOD you can watch since I was recording stuff when stuff went south

IF you want to be able to have your gameplay videos uploaded let me know

David, don’t let the BB scene rain on your parade. For a first run BK was a huge success. There were hang ups but ppl stepped up and did the best they could to smooth things out. You extended your hand to the BB scene, and they are salty because they didn’t get prizes they assumed they were getting? They were complaining about your set up you offered them because it wasn’t up to their standards? Sounds like they are just ungrateful, and as you mentioned it won’t be a problem next time. It’s just sad because you offer to try to get them exposure for their scene, yet all they do is stay huddled amongst themselves. But it’s whatever.

Where is my “like” button =D

The Blazblue setup that he provided was a pirated version with no working diagonals and lag (though according to him it was 100% working). If we hadn’t brought our own setup there wouldn’t have been a tourney and all of us would have paid $5 for nothing.

And we already have plenty of exposure. Only advertising in two places (DL and gamefaqs) our stream had over 50 viewers.

I didn’t get a chance to at BK, but I just was watching some of the recorded stuff from my camera and I have to say good shit to JTS with that guile statue. That thing is freaking awesome

Actually we only got salty when stuff was brought up on here about us instead of on Dustloop

I wasn’t able to see which setup he was going to use but from whats been said it was going to be the leaked version of the game which is pretty grimy in and of itself and it didn’t run that well in the first place from what I heard from Jais. If Spark hadn’t shown up with his setup we would have paid our entry and venue fees and been told there was no BB later on due to having to use a really inferior version of it.

I was trying to smooth things over a bit but yeah it probably won’t be happening again sadly because I was really hoping the Dustloop, SRK, and BK crews could work together again, I had alot of fun hanging out with both the people from Dustloop and SRK.

And we were happy about that but things didn’t end up being anywhere near as well run as we would have liked but we still enjoyed out time at BK for the most part. And people in the BB and GG scenes were mingling with the SF and Tekken people and having a good time.

You are right. I was out of line with my response.

It’s cool man, people are getting a bit heated and while it’s a good idea to air some grievances it might be a good idea for everyone to just take a step back.

i’ve been checking both the event and NW match finder threads on DL and have not seen any of this posted over there.

if I had been unable to provide some sort of BB setup and you wanted to leave I would have refunded your cover. I comped covers for everyone who brought a setup. I’d also like to mention that Bloody-Knuckles was not about the tournament, or the prizes, it was about the artwork and the community.

sorry some of you missed the point.

but for those that did get it, I feel like they really really got it. I’d like to share a quote with all of you that I got shortly after the show.

“Thanks for introducing something so cool to the fighting game community. For the most part, the fighting game community just involves a bunch of guys sitting around a room and playing games, with the occasional tournament. Bloody Knuckles gave the community and everyone in it a chance to be a lot more and produce something great which could let other people see into what we do and how much it means to us. I almost can’t think of having a tournament now without an art event, or something that would allow the community to expand and do something bigger like your event did.”

Thanks man! I’m glad people seemed to like it. I always hate looking at my stuff weeks after I’ve finished. So I’m glad people can enjoy it even though I see so many problems with it. Ha. Hopefully, if there’s another BK, I’ll try to make another piece! And thank YOU for uploading the videos and doing the streaming! If only some of my winning matches were filmed… Ha.

Regarding the heat that people are throwing at the BB community. I think it would be a real shame if BK evolved into a SF only event. I really enjoy seeing and mingling with other communities. And for the most part, they seem more mature than the SF scene in Seattle. That’s right, I said it! Ha. This event was supposed to be for the whole fighting game community. Not just SF4. Hopefully the issues can get ironed out and fixed for an even better BK2. If it’s even possible to get more awesome!

BB is grimy! How do you guys complain about something so great? You guys need to get your shit straight and then your community might be accepted by others. This is one of the main reasons why most tournaments dont split SF with BB/GG community. Good luck with anybody else in the SF community that holds tournaments to throw you guys a bone… Fuckin Ungrateful.

Good shit to Happy Stick Person for holding it down. Dont let these bitter ass people try to tarnish what you did FIRST AND FOREMOST THE ART COMMUNITY and also the video game community.
