BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT aka the Spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night

Yep, bought it right after I got home from work. Did my first playthrough and started the “episode 2” playthrough. Early thoughts are that it’s more difficult than the first (considerably so in the ep.2 so far), levels are generally longer, music overall isn’t as good as the last (still good though), and the levels are well designed. Looks like there’s going to be a lot to sink your teeth into, even moreso than the first. Being a sequel, it won’t make the same “pop” in perception the first did. Definitely enjoying it, well worth $15.

There’s a boss late in the game that is a total cock knocker, way too much shit going on with way too little opportunity to attack (get hit once and you’ll lose that window for a long while as well). 6 turrets, bouncing rings, lightning hitting your platforms, AOE attack you have to be on a platform to dodge, etc. Too much random shit. Took me at least a few tries the first time (even then, the lingering damage when you go back without having lost all your characters saved my ass), the ep.2 version (which is like nightmare mode from the first game) has been stomping me for over an hour. Got the fucker to a single hit once, but even that felt more lucky than anything else. Finally got frustrated enough to just do it it casual mode (blegh), and even then I had to swap a character out to finish it. There are other tough bosses, but that one is total bullshit. You’ll see when you get there. I said before that I wanted COTM2 to be harder- they certainly delivered.

SomeCallMeJohnny conoared the difficulty directly to CV3 where it toigh but fair…until it’s not and becomes a little unfair.

I’m sure there’s a better way to approach that fight than the one I’m using, just aggravated right now. I’d rather have this issue than it be too breezy.

I never found CV3 to be unfair, but it does get hard. You just have to know what to do where and it’s a snap, but with the added wrinkle of which character to use. I really think the “NA CV3 is too hard” thing is a meme especially considering people seem to bust on CV4 for being “too easy.”

Final stage/ Dracula fight in the NA CV3 is pretty brutal due to the shitty checkpoint (bigger lasers are also way tougher to dodge, particularly without Grant)- other than that, I’d agree.

Man, the Miriam fight in zangetsu mode is super annoying. She’s not even hard, she’s just a damage sponge and all the stupid wall stick stuff that happens when you get hit means you just take more damage for one mistake than you need to.

If you have the Axe you can just use that on Drac’s second form and walk back and forth or rise the floating platforms for a minute to avoidthe lasers.

I wouldn’t say CV3 is too hard, it’s deffinitly hard, but it has a couple moments where you are probably going to die if you dont know whats coming or what to do. It’s a little…eh for CV imo.

CVIV is deffinitly too easy, I use a code to start on loop 2 these days because of it, but a shit load of people LOVE CVIV so it was probably a good thing making it easier over all for the health of the series.

The CV series could have probably benefited from some legit difficulty settings you know?

For some reason, the NA versions of the classicvanias are always harder than the Japanese versions. Dunno why that is. The Japanese verison of CV1 actually has difficulty settings but that’s the only one I’m aware of.

What’s the difference in the 2nd loop of CV4 besides 4 hits you die and some extra bats? I never went thru it.

Nothing really just higher damage and some more enemies here and there.

Ah. I played the first couple stages and outside of those things I didn’t notice any difference so I quit. Might have to go back and play though CV3 again tho. When I got the CV Collection I started playing CV3 but my dumb drunk ass took the lower path that leads to that stage with the falling blocks you have to climb to get to the top of the stage and I HATE that level.

The block stage is awful lol.

It is. I stopped playing there because I’d spend 3-5 min waiting for the blocks to drop enough so I could get to the stairs, and if I died, I’d have to do that all over again. When I was a kid that was ok but not now lol

I always take the Sypha path, only good thing about the Alucard path some variety in the music. Grant and Sypha are way more useful/fun.

Back to COTM2, I finished the episode 2 playthrough and am most of the way through the final (4th) episode now (there’s a 3rd one that I’m assuming you need to get the bad ending of ep.2 to unlock. Episode 4 is where you get the full crew, also has a MMX style stage select. Really enjoying this game, that sarcophagus boss can still fuck right off though.

I want to buy Curse 2 but I’m worried it’s gonna get a physical like the first did and i don’t want to buy it twice like I did the first one…

Think Limited Run Games is doing the physical somewhere down the line…

Just finished all of the COTM2 episodes, some unexpected surprises in the final one. Only wussed out with casual mode the first time I fought “nightmare mode” Sarcophagus- changed back right afterwards. Fantastic classic “CV” game, definitely among the very best. Tons of content for a game of this style, challenge was good (still going to bitch about that stage 6 boss despite getting better at it), great level design- only knock beyond that one boss is that the music isn’t up there with the real CV games or even the first COTM. Using other characters/routes in repeated playthroughs really livens spices things up, and as with the first one, you unlock an “ultimate mode” Zangetsu that adds even more fun. I had the bad ending run and the EX run left after unlocking that, which made those runs a hell of a lot more enjoyable. Very happy that Inti Creates dropped this on us out of nowhere, and I hope they continue. You should absolutely get this game if you like classic CV.

Hi, everyone. We are working on a hotfix to address the following issues occurring on Steam (1.15), PS4 (1.15) and Xbox One (1.0.1.5):

  1. A crash linked to NPC interactions.
  2. A crash linked to pausing while playing as Bloodless.
  3. Extra items affecting achievements.

We will update everyone as soon as we have an ETA on the release of this hotfix.

Note: Boss Revenge and Chroma Wheel have not yet been released for Switch, GamePass or GOG and are not affected by the issues listed above.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve the game!
