BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT aka the Spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night

He thinks the plauge knight in shovel knight is the one who invented the plauge mask.

:’)

Hmmmm in non text,I want to say the first time I recall seeing it was the movie “brotherhood of the wolf”

Plague Masks are real and where really used back in the day.

@toddler316 Brotherhood of the Wolf was a cool movie. I checked it out after learning it was a big inspiration for Bloodborne.

Been awhile!

Did my questionnaire for physical copy. Name is in those credits guyz.

I just put my tag though, I’ll know who I am.

Yeah I was torn between my tag and name, eventually went with name because I don’t always get my tag on forums and the like.

That dude in the ness shirt sounds like lumpy space princess

I’m hype for this, and I think it’ll be the true test of whether it was Konami putting limitations on time and budget that kept the IGAvanias from being all they could be or if it was more on IGA himself.

Either way, this game is shaping up and the fact that he got the funding he did is great to see. The stretch goals make it seem like there’ll be a lot of replayability to the game too.

All this talk of OoE has me thinking I may go back and play that through again. The game itself was pretty good, but I found the characters weren’t much fun to play as. If any game could have used a Richter mode, it was OoE; I would love to play through that game as a Belmont.

Almost a month now. Anymore news on what will be admitted to the GOAT hall of fame?

First one looks better IMO.

(I forgot there was a thread for this already.)

I agree that the first one looks better, though oddly the far view of the second looks slightly better to me for some reason. I’m not quite sure why that is; it may just be my mind having gotten used to the far view after the initial impression of the first shading style, where the far view itself looked weird to me. Shrug.

Goddamn why does everything have to be 2.5D?

How are you just realizing that this game is 2.5D now? One of the first things that was announced is that it was running on Unreal 4.

As for why? Well, money dear boy. It’s much easier and cheaper these days to use 3D than 2D. The fact alone that they can simply license a 3D engine like Unreal, instead of having to write their own engine already saves alot.

2D art is much more expensive, takes significantly longer to make and is much harder to adjust/edit during development than 3D art.
This is also super early in the visual design cycle, they still don’t have a concrete art direction yet And in the screenshot most (if not all) of the textures are either placeholder or unfinished along with model/level geometry being very low poly. Once they’ve decided on what shader they want to use they can focus on refining textures, lighting and geometry and you’ll see a significant improvement.

KOF 14 is probably the best example of this right now with the game looking significantly improved visually now (although still not good) compared to when it was revealed in it’s very early stages a month ago and the change to 2.5D being a necessity for them to put in as much as possible without overblowing their budget.

I know it’s still early just makes me a bit sad.
I played both Rondo of Blood and its 3D remake and the latter looked ass compared to the former.

Also SotN’s pixel art was fucking gorgeous, was kinda hoping to see more of that.

2.5 can look as amazing as 2D if the art direction gives half of a fuck. Lazy art departments are to blame for your inherent dislike of it more than anything else.

RIP 2D sprites.
