Eternal Champions CD FTW. Everytime I think about selling off my Sega CD and all my Genesis games I just can’t do it simply cause I can’t part with this game. Xaevier Pendragon is too awesome…Wizard shoto who can turn you to gold and shoot snakes at you.
You really need the sound to appreciate these, but they’ll do.
Larcens Vendetta, Ramses Sudden Death, and Midnights Overkill are the best:
A beta or similar exists, which someone copied into an ISO and distributed online years ago.
The Thrill Kill engine was later used as the base for the PS1 Wu-Tang fighter, without any of the blood or gore. Wu-Tang was okay for mindless fun back when there wasn’t any competition for simultaneous four-player fighters. Now games like Urban Reign do a much better job, even if they are also flawed.
Technically it was never released, but it was finished and the rom is floating around out there in cyberspace. It really didn’t have any redeeming quality besides the wanton violence, but a fun little bit of history none the less.
Fuck yeah, never seen a game that compared to it (talking about the original one, where it was all unedited). But then again, it didn’t have an arcade release.
EDIT: Watching those Eternal Champions deaths are making me lol ;p
Very nice find.
To me , they seemed to silly to even be violent. It was all so slapstick with unrealistic mountains of blood after PUNCHing somebody so it didn’t feel violent as much as silly. Some of the fatalities were gut wrenching in the second game, when they used some really strong sound effects to make the point hit home, but outside of those it never felt ‘violent’ rather then stupid. I think hitting someone with a shell in Super Mario Kart’s Battle Mode felt more violent (you’d get this nice violent shock that looked/sounded like you were breaking someone’s leg!)
hard to top mk4’s endings. when someone would get blown up all you would hear is bones hitting the ground and blood splashing all over the place like a bucket of water dropping.

and i would see this shit when i was young so growing up gore movies and games never phased me one bit
