I’m ok with the Capcom choices
I’m not ok with War Machine though
dragon’s dogma dark arisen comes out this year and it’s capcom’s biggest new franchise
WHERE THE FUCK IS SAVAN?
Lady Deathstrike or the origin of her would probably have more importance than Silver Samurai in that movie.
No mention of when the fan request and business request match up.
when i made my post in the character poll thread, i considered ALL of those choices (except war machine). here’s what i think of those mentioned in that unity post.
1.Lost Planet - frankly, i’m not impressed with LP characters for a marvel game. isn’t their story something like they’re on a frozen (sometimes tropical) planet and survive using survival suits along with harnessing thermal energy from slain 20-foot monsters that are native to the planet? meh. the possible characters from this franchise don’t really seem to fit in with a marvel game…ptx-40 wasn’t received well after tvc because it was a giant, the akrids(?) are also giants, and the human soldiers/pirates/whatever are pretty lame IMO…i’ll pass on LP.
2.Remember Me - not really seeing how the main character could fit into a fighting game, let alone a marvel game. seems kinda boring unless someone can explain her appeal in more detail.
3.Monster Hunter - MH characters come with two problems. problem #1…the monster hunters are lame (and customizable afaik which presents a different set of problems). that leaves the monsters, which leads to problem #2…the monsters are giants. yes, characters can be shrunk, but the appeal of characters like Rathalos is exactly the opposite…THEY’RE HUGE MONSTERS. shrinking them would kill their main appeal IMO. you can get away with that with sentinel (apparently) and probably some other characters, but do the fans really want a shrunken Rathalos? i wouldn’t think so. even something the size of Hauzer from Capcom Fighting Jam is considerably smaller than MH monsters. so you have two options…shrink the character and lose its main appeal OR make it large and have an incredibly cumbersome character within the game. i personally don’t like either tbqh. i like the* idea* of MH monsters in a marvel game (just for something out of the ordinary), but the primary appeal nor the practical application for their inclusion is there IMO.
Dragon’s Dogma - these characters in a marvel game don’t get me excited AT ALL. they’re all pretty lame for a marvel/vs title IMO.
Sengoku Basara - eh, characters based on ancient historical figures. boring for a marvel game.
Ace Attorney - no need for another representative from this series, especially considering the one we already have is a “joke” character.
Thanos - everyone wants thanos. he’s good to go.:tup::tup:
Loki - lots of requests for loki. people like him. i think he’s kinda lame though, but that’s just me.
Silver Samurai - i suggested SS as a possibility. he’s cool, but i personally think there are more interesting marvel characters. not a top choice for a returning character IMO, despite his upcoming movie appearance.
War Machine - i’ll pass.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - OK, so this movie will have several characters. first, Crossbones…he’s essentially a highly trained soldier for the most part. not really that interesting for a new character in mvc3. what he brings to the table is already present in the game. Falcon…L-A-M-E! i would prefer archangel and that’s not likely to happen. arnim zola…a great obscure character, but he’s not really a combatant…but then again, phoenix wright isn’t a combatant AT ALL. buckeye…please. nick fury…i like nick fury as a playable character. nick’s got presence.
Ant-Man - truthfully, i like Ant-Man as a playable character, simply because he could be a working and functional giant within the game, being able to shrink to normal size and even semi-insect size (think servbot, or even smaller:eek: ). giants in tvc were disliked, so how about a character with a temporary giant form along with a temporary miniature form?
The Mandarin…ya know what? i have to admit something. Iron Man is corny. he always has been afaic. not only is he corny, but his villains are corny too. obadiah stane…corny. whiplash…SUPER CORNY. mandarin…not as lame as stane and whiplash, but he’s sprinkled with a little corny salt too. meh, i’m 50/50 on mandarin. he’s a bit weaksauce, but there are some interesting elements to him as well. he could bring something unique to the table if done right.
Star-Lord (& Co.) is my #1 marvel pick because a lot of people want Captain Commando, but CapCom is old and irrelevant now. Star-Lord, being the leader of a team like CapCom, and this being a team game, is a great replacement for the type of character Commando is (multiple-characters-in-one, but with groot as a separate individual character). in addition, GotG are currently relevant in comics, on tv, and will be in hollywood in 2014. he’s good money.
Dude, The Mandarin is freakin badass
He can crush iron man’s armor with his bare hands
So, surprise!! I wrote the blog. I’m ZenTea over on the Unity forums.
I didn’t mean to imply that the examples I gave are the only ones and just those characters/IPs should be in the game.
I was trying to set a sort of “Starting off point” of thinking about character requests from a more business oriented mentality/perspective. There are, of course many other choices. I also am not a huge fan of Lost Planet (the first one was pretty fun tho) but it seems to be a IP that Capcom is invested in and keeps making. That and there isn’t a ton of new stuff coming out from Capcom that I know about post 2013. Remember me does genuinely look cool but we’ll see how it plays once it’s out.
Like I said, just a nice jumping off point for discussion about tailoring our requests so that we don’t get let down/have a higher chance of them becoming true.
Hope you guys enjoyed the read and it wasn’t a total waste of time!
Thanos needs to have his :mk: divekick be better than Doom’s footdive. I mean it is the “best dive kick ever” after all.
I kinda see where you’re coming from. But putting only new characters on would probably reflect badly on Capcom who already have a reputation for being greedy. There needs to be a happy medium of old, popular characters and newer characters too.
Remember Me isn’t even out yet and could very well prove to be a huge flop, why risk wasting a character on a potential flop? Lost Planet has characters that don’t really have any lasting appeal to anyone who isn’t a die hard fan of the series. I also know that some form of Monster Hunter character has been requested for quite some time; although at this point it’s just beating a dead horse as the game makers won’t allow it; I’m also not sure how much appeal they would have outside of the games core fanbase, aren’t most Monster Hunter games released in Japan only?
If they were going to put recent Capcom characters on, the two most obvious would be Asura and Arisen (Dragon’s Dogma). Which could be used to enhance sales of them both, as they already have done fairly well both commercially and critically. Combine those two with some other favourites like Captain Commando or Jin and some new-older series’ getting represented like Power Stone then you have yourself a healthy balance. Unfortunately, as much as I’d like to see him myself I would not expect to see Megaman, X or any other blue bomber making an appearance in an MvC3 update. There’s such a high demand for him that I think they’d to sell MvC4 or another future fighting game. If they put Megaman in an update to MvC3, he’s the last of the ultra-high, super requested characters. They can easily sell an update without him. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to see MvC veteran Roll back. They left him off the first two times for a reason, that’s the only one that makes any sense to me.
As for Marvel; it’s a very similar situation to Capcom. They should use an update to increase awareness of their new films, but not at the cost of completely alienating the characters that the fans want. I know that Cable, Gambit and Cyclops (among others) are heavily requested, and have been since the start. Characters like that should have a place on the roster alongside Thanos, Loki or The Black Widow who would be likely characters to promote the new Marvel films.
Hopefully Iron Man 3 will be awesome and Nitsuma will see it and buff Iron Man.

I hear you man, loud and clear. I did mention in the blog that they shouldn’t only focus on new characters and that leveraging old IPs /characters also needs to be done. I just limited my self to what is new otherwise I’d have been writing forever lol, I had to narrow the focus of the article anyway.
But I hear you, I wanted to include Asura from from Asuras Wrath but at the last second I decided that it didn’t fit with the whole “2013 and Beyond” theme. That said, I should include him as an honorable mention because he would certainly fit in MvC very well.
+1
You also have to pay attention to who Marvel is trying to promote comic wise and what other characters appear in other games.
Capcom plays PR with the fans IMO. Turning bad decisions on Marvel. The “list” is an example. They make it seem like the “list” was smaller than what it actually was.
Like Cable has appeared in all but two games released recently.
Gambit, meh, no one cares about.
Hmm, I guess we have an official spokesperson for every person on the planet.
Last I checked, Gambit was one of the highest demended characters.
I mean comic/Marvel wise. His solo isn’t selling that high, and he is demanded among non comic fans.
And he has the least appearances among games.
