Blocked Focus attacks, frame adv?

Trying to understand something here.

When I play characters with really good focuses like duds or cody, they pressure me into the corner with level 2 fa’s that I block and thinking I’m at a frame advantage I go for a throw, but almost anything they go for after the focus beats it. Typically they go into their block strings and trying to catch me pressing buttons, they focus again.

I thought a blocked focus even if they dash out leaves them frame negative or is this character dependent?

level 2s on block give frame advantage

level 1s are disadvantage

So wait, certain characters i can throw with ease after, but not others. Character dependent, no?

“Here is the block advantage/disadvantage for all characters level1/level2 Focus Attacks if they dash in after it.”

so i guess now my question is how do you deal with the fact 90% of characters have HUGE frame advantage on fa lv2. Seems like i get caught in a block string rinse cycle since i don’t play characters without an invincible reversal.

armor breaker move.

Or toss their dumbass

With such great frame adv most characters have, the throw is simply not working when they startup the block string again with a 3 frame jab. Backdashing puts you into the corner.

I really dislike FAs. Manageable in sf4, now that they are faster, just ridiculous.

You have to act before you get hit by it or else you are in a shitty situation. That’s just the way the cookie crumples :3

While putting yourself in bad situation for training is a good idea imo, you have to step back once in a while and realize where you just need to decide that finding away to avoid that situation is your best solution. Don’t get hit by lvl 2 focus unless you want to block or backdash into the corner.

I usually react with another focus as my first choice. Then I hold it and react with either a counter focus or a backdash. There are various mixups based on timing, which is why I like it. There is also jumping and taking a possible anti-air focus hit which could lead to a juggle, which is sometimes a risk I’ll take. And there’s also poking just as they release, since focus attacks take 17-21 frames to execute. There’s armor breaks if you can train that reaction. There’s walk up and throw if you CAN. There’s 2-in-1s if you react fast enough. There’s a bunch of solutions for avoiding your problem entirely.

Otherwise, block it and enjoy getting pissed on.

prevention better than the cure.

got it.
