Blizzard Overwatch

Yes, there was definitely varying health totals. Tankier characters were harder to kill, not to mention having armor and such.

Also, I guess it depends on the level. On the egyptian level, I was able to climb up almost any surface with hanzo. But his climb seemed to have a timer, like you can climb X feet high, rather than just climbing up any wall. So the really tall walls, I couldnt climb up. But they were definitely designed with mobility in mind. At one point we had to capture a control point where there was basically 2 bottlenecks to choose from, but with him (and also with Reaper) I was able to climb/teleport up to the top of the choke, and attack from there, catching some of the people off guard. With characters like Reinheardt, you’re forced with no mobility to just come in with your shield nad your high HP to survive. It played very different.

The other map where we had to escort a cart, payload style, that one felt like it mattered less vertically and more was about horizontal distance. But it could just be because I was playing a non mobile character on that map that I just didnt notice the verticalness of the map? I did try reaper when I was defending on that map, and was able to set up some flanks with his teleport/shadowstep, which was awesome. Popping up behind a sniper and unloading with shotguns was sweet.

Health totals definitely varies heavily between some characters, from what I’ve seen the health totals are.

600 - Reinhardt.
500 - Winston (goes up to 1000 in beserk mode).
250 - Reaper, Bastion.
200 - Hanzo, Widowmaker, Pharah, Mercy, Torjborn (Dwarf Engineer), Symmetra.
150 - Tracer, Zenyatta.

Blizzard doesn’t want to over-sexualize females, but adding in the stereotypical characters is no problem. You got indian zen-dude and you got hanzo the samurai/archer dude.

They need to add a cyborg spear-chucker. Obviously he would be black and speak with an African accent.

I can’t tell if this is sarcastic or not, if it is forgive me. This “Indian zen-dude” is a robot, you’ve only got your self to blame for automatically assuming anyone dressed in that garb and sitting cross-legged is indian. I don’t see any problem with Hanzo either, he uses a bow and arrow and is Japanese. I see nothing wrong with a Japanese guy dressing with his culture in mind. Not to mention he has funny chicken lookin’ robot legs. Next thing ya know you’ve got people complaining that the Reaper is a stereotype because all shadowy people are assassins…

This was racist as hell.

But it made me chuckle.

I’m all confused now lol.

Almost feels this should have been called Team Fortress 3, but looks to have League elements in it as well. Trailer was pretty good and I really liked the character specialties and uniqueness.

Beta should be dope!

Yo where is that Reinhardt statue? I’d cop that.

Okay, let me get this out of the way… and see if anyone would get this reference.
Reinhardt: “CAAAAAARRRRLSON AND PEEETERRRRRS!!!”

Lol, ok I feel better.
But dammit I wanna play as the ape.
So I have reason to literally go Apeshit on people for once.

I don’t care about 150$ statues, I don’t care about meditating robots, I just want the game to nut suck.

TF2 comparisons are fucking retarded.

Why?

I don’t see why.

Based on the sudden change in art style compared to Blizzard games of the last 10 years, the fact that it’s a class based shooter, one can come to the conclusion that TF2 was at least an inspiration. Especially considering TF2 has been going strong for 7 years, it makes sense that other developers would take the hint and try something similar of their own.

Anyway…

That ninja and cowboy look boss - I need info asap.

As for the known characters, I’m intrigued by Tracer, Reinhardt, Widowmaker and Bastion.

I like nearly all of the character designs, but there’s no one set of skills it looks like I’d be completely happy with.

Its not entirely a class based shooter though. Its a character based shooter. You choose a role (Support, damage, tank) and choose a character that fills that role (Tracer, Hanzo, Reaper). TF2 you choose a class (Scout, Sniper) then choose the loadout for that class (Fan, Bow).

Its not an unfair comparison as most people know TF2, and they even have like Payload maps, but it feels less like TF2 when you get your hands on it. Having abilities alone takes it to a new level. Youre not only defined by your guns.

a

nut suck or not suck? =P

Game looks fun. I’ll play if friends do. Probably get a rude awakening that I’m too old for FPS heh.

FYI Gamespot’s youtube channel has the trailers for each character.

Did you notice any Man vs. Machine/Horde mode options?

Also great to hear about payload maps. Anything that stops the game from being just a plain deathmatch. CP_Dustbowl and PL_Goldrush had me addicted to TF2 for a long time. Funny that they’re both extremely linear.

They said theres no deathmatch period. All matches are objective based. CP and Payload is what they had, with the Egyptian CP being attack/defend style CP. I didnt get to play the japanese map.

Right now theres like no options, and too early to really think about that. They dont seem to want to restrict choices; no locking one team to just bad guys vs good guys, or allowing only 1 of a class to be used for the entire game. I feel like that will be fun for pro matches, drafting in a 6v6 format, but for casual play they are keeping it as open as possible; you can even switch heroes at base as much as you want.

With the way Overwatch is turning out I see it being more like Monday Night Combat then TF2 or a MOBA.

People are going to find a way to subtly get deathmatch in this game, even if it means everyone flocking to the nearest equivalent of Hightower.

Though that example is only because of easy it is to hold a stalemate on that map.
