I think character switching is very interesting compared to other games, especially since different characters bring different things to the table at different stages of a game, like going into overtime or using Symmetra for the ult on the first checkpoint point since it is the furthest.
One thing that I personally am not too huge of a fan is having character stacks on the same team. Just aesthetically I don’t like it especially since the character designs are so unique, and I don’t feel that any character is utter trash that being forced to pick a unique team of 6 out of 21 is a big hurdle. I also think having each person differentiate themselves from their team members in doing something unique relative to each other. I do understand if they keep it though, there won’t be any bickering over team picks in a pub game and trying to sort out who picks who. I can deal with it staying as is at the moment.
The game is totally not balanced enough for this at the moment. You’d lose at the character select screen too often. The game is SOO counter-pick heavy. You would be forced to pick the hero’s without a lot of bad matchups.
That might work fine in a pub where people will just do that anyways, but the game is obviously supposed to balanced around constantly switching characters.
They need to keep it, fuck not being able to play what you want just because someone else was faster on the character select screen, game should always put fun above flavour bs.
My time is limited, I want to spend it playing characters I enjoy, not sticking with a 2nd choice because the ones I like are taken or hopping between games until I find one I can play as who I like in.
That bullshit would be an instant fucking no buy or trade in if patched in after release.
Playing other games just to pass time lol. Doesn’t feel the same lol.
Character switching is great especially since alot of teams want to pick the same characters. Like 3 tracers or 3 bastions.
Also alot of teams do not pick a healer or a tank. If you are stuck then you are screwed from hero select.
I would never expect any limitation on a pub game, since I even mentioned this way has no issue with character picking with randoms with no conflicts. I was thinking more in line how organized play would work with it rather than randoms, since there would be at least some trust among team members and a line of communication. And I was thinking of not just flavorwise but having unique heroes in a situation on team would have to go at a situation differently than people doubling up on one. If you needed to bunker through overtime, it can be interesting to see if an organized team could make something that synergizes for that situation rather than stacking one tank hero, which happens in current pro games. But to be honest, they probably won’t change this for organized 6v6 and I expect them to keep this as is.
If ranked play is how it was in closed beta, it’s complete garbage if you ask me. It’s very much like Hearthstone ranked matches; a complete grind and no real sense of skill or MMR to see where you stack up versus other players.
From what we know now, ranked play is like this:
Capture point/payload maps: teams take turns on offense/defense. If it goes 1-1 (regardless of who capped faster), it goes to a random KOTH map, best of one, for “sudden death”.
KOTH maps are best of five. One map, but you keep playing random capture points.
You gain 20 points per victory, ranking up takes 100 points
You lose 20 points per loss, although you can’t lose points for the first rank
You need to rank up 5 times to reach a new titled rank (i.e. moving from Advanced to Expert)
You gain 40 points per victory if you are on a win streak (no difference between winning two games in a row versus ten in a row)
Ranked seasons are only one month
So yeah, so long as you have a 50.01% win rate, you will reach the highest rank so long as you have the time for it. Ranked play is kind of a joke and is closer to a grind more than anything. I REALLY wish they would have an MMR type system that doesn’t reset, but Blizzard too scared to do something like that I guess. To me, ranked is try hard mode, but your actual ranking doesn’t mean shit since it’s more of a grind than a show of skill.
This game is boring, sucks, and is generic. Good to see Blizzard still doesn’t know how to make a solid game post Warcraft 3. A pitiful attempt to copy TF2.
hearthstone ranked is actually pretty good, it does have an MMR system under the hood but it is essentially gated away to only the top 1% of players. everyone else is matched up using the division system, which works well enough given the random nature of the game.
using hearthstone’s ranked system tackles a lot of the issues people had with hots/LoL’s matchmaking (hidden MMR with ignored division system) and it seems like a good idea to me. but overwatch already does skill-based matchmaking for normal games, so it is worrying that a division system in ranked could potentially make ranked matchmaking worse than normal matchmaking, in which case why would people even bother queueing up for it
cheh, speaking of boring shit… I was just watching more footage…and it’s such a great cast of characters…but Hanzo really stands out in a bad way, imo. From day 1, nothing about the character has been appealing to me. The ultimate looks cool and that’s really about it. Maybe it’s just because he seems so damn slow compared to the general pace of combat with everyone else? I’m not sure, but if that character wasn’t even in the roster I wouldn’t consider that as any big loss.
Oh shit if someone doesn’t agree with my opinions, he must be a troll! You can’t talk to me about shit bitch.
It’s generic as in it’s just another FPS game where characters get certain special abilities and the aesthetics might as well be stripped straight from TF2. The textures in all the maps look very similar. This game is TF2 with some different character models and more classes.
You can have a different opinion. That’s cool. Thing is though, threads like these are for people who enjoy the topic of said thread. You don’t, so there is no value to be had here for you. I think league of legends is fucking retarded but I don’t go in that thread and say it. Why? Because it’s a waste of time. Your post has no intention of doing anything other than stirring up shit. Trolling for the sake of trolling.
If it was the VGG thread and the topic of Overwatch came up then yeah whatever. That’s a thread for gaming in general. Go ahead. But this thread is for people who like the game, or want to learn more about it before making a purchase.
