Welll what I am suggesting is that it works like the specialist package from call of doot doot, so if you die, you lose the upgrades anyways so yeah. Not everyone wants to learn how to play with every character in the game, and teams that do have the same character on them can go down different paths and diversify. Plus it throws that random element that you think you are coming up against a character with a certain skill set and he does something different because he upgraded and you weren’t paying attention or you are the one with the streak and the whole of the enemy team is trying to shit on you so you don’t get too strong. I think all that would be hilarious and add a bit more depth. The system doesn’t have to be super complicated as you already have so much going on with so many characters feeling VASTLY different from each other as is.
Correct. Either way, Pharah can easily deal with Bastion so long as she doesn’t fly up into the air like a dummy. It’s really not that hard to kill him or at least put heavy amounts of pressure on him if you know his location.
Personally I find it pretty annoying that they want people to change specifically. I mean, they talk about you “not playing classes, but heroes” but you’re totally fucking playing classes because you have to switch to fit the situation. Almost no “hero” has the minimum tools to deal with every situation.
You are not playing heroes your just playing soldiers. Which, I mean, is fine if that’s their intent. I don’t personally like it, but I think their marketing doesn’t support their design intent, and I think that’s why most casuals, pubs, whatever other word almost never switch.
People want the play the character they think is coolest, not the soldier most fitting for whatever specific duty.
I assure you that shit almost never fucking works for me. In fact that was one of the reasons I even started playing Pharah, because I thought she’d be a decent counter. Not even.
It’s sorta the opposite for me as genji. Getting to bastion is often a breeze unless he’s specifically guarded by a rein in some corner, then I gotta switch. Between all the places I can climb and avoid the rest of the team, the dashes/reflect to avoid incoming fire, i’ll get to where I want without a problem unless I gotta go through a room filled with symmetra turrets or just infested in turrets in general.
It’s always a matter of if i can actually kill him or not. Not all bastions are stupid so they won’t fall for a full reflect more than twice, sometimes they do. The damage on shurikens aren’t high enough to trade blows with in the same style as pharah, so it’s mostly either combination of outsmarting them with the reflect timing, some harassment, and finding opportunities and positions to hit the power core. Or distracting them when the rest of the team is firing at him or vice versa.
Again, I can’t help but compare it to a fighting game(or at least one that isn’t UTTERLY fucked in balance) where even the low tier characters CAN survive if you get the right couple of reads. In Overwatch, depending on your character and theirs, you can get the right read several times in a row and still lose because your character just isn’t designed to be able to fight the other one even when you have things in your favor.
of course, unlike fighting games, Overwatch is 6v6 so it doesn’t end up being as much of a problem, But I’d still personally prefer if every character at least had one aspect that let them SURVIVE a bad match up provided to get the right reads.
Good example is D.Va vs McCree actually. This is super dangerous for D.Va, but if you read the flash bang->fan fire, you can counter with defense matrix and either fire while he’s reloading, getting a head start on damage, or if his aim is that good, just boost into him to knock him off balance and then fly away. With D.Va vs Reaper it doesn’t really matter. You can’t out pace his damage and Defense Matrix won’t really give you an opening, so you can ONLY boost away. Actually, thinking about it more now, in D.Va’s case, boost basically is that thing that lets her survive her bad matchups, but what about like Reinhardt vs McCree? Does he have anything to survive that? Just toss flashbang over the shield and unload in his skull and he’s gone.
I mean, overall I guess I don’t really have any big problems with the game, I just wish I didn’t have to switch. Maybe that’s why D.Va isn’t really good as of right now, cause she can kinda work in a bunch of different roles so they tried to balance her by making her not excel at any of them.
I do too actually, from a visual design stand point especially. I am just not interested in playing most of them. I actually would want to play Reaper, but he is one of the few who’s visual design I really dislike. Soldier 76 is actually pretty cool looking for a call of duty man, but I don’t care for his personality or gameplay. Well, aside from having that sweet, sweet mid range assault rifle. I wish he had SOMETHING interesting though.
Pretty much I think Overwatch has the best and most unified visual design of any game they’ve ever made. There’s really only a few small things I feel are a bit too out of place, but they’re not the kind of things you can’t explain away with whatever lore crap
Random is the complete opposite of what a game of skill should be.
Getting a bunch of kills is already rewarded by (1) ultimates and (2) time on the objective.
If you want to surprise the other team do it with positioning.
I honestly don’t know what to tell you other than the canned “git gud”. Taking to the air is stupid vs Bastion, just like trying to shoot Widowmaker at long range while flying as Pharah. If you know where Bastion is and he’s unprotected, which usually the case in pubs, you only need to hit him twice by strafing in and out of cover to at least force him to either repair (he cannot heal faster than you can deal damage) or move to another location, which weakens the area he was covering. Just need to be on the look out for Soldiers and snipers as usual because you’re Pharah.
