Blizzard Overwatch

Any character you guys felt was weak?

Symmetra and Zarya seemed a bit crappy IMO.

Beta’s over? But I wasn’t able to get on today…

And the withdrawal is kicking in…

Two weeks…

Symmetra was honestly pretty garbage. She is decent at best on maybe two maps. Her primary fire is extremely short range, her alt fire travels super slow, her turrets are more of an annoying distraction for the attacking team, and she only gives 25 shield. The ONLY reason to have a Symmetra is to have a teleporter for your team. Symmetra seems like the character that will get the most use from people that are just generally terrible in combat but want to try and help the team by giving them a teleporter.

Zarya was alright but she’d be better if that shield lasted longer. When I first started playing her I honestly had a period in time where I thought the shield was disappearing so quick because I wasn’t holding down the button.

D.Va.

Symmetra is situational as fuck but annoying as fuck if played correctly.

Also maybe it’s just me but I really don’t like Torbjorn’s turrets. It seems like they have an undefined range and snap to you faster than a counter strike spin/aimbot. Unless you have a Reindhart standing in front of it, it’s nearly impossible to put it down without taking damage from it at any range. That thing snaps so quick you can’t really even surprise attack it with Tracer.

Changes I think i’d like to see from characters I played:

Bastion:
Turret mode needs a bit of an adjustment. A bastion + mercy is a really powerful combo. With the damage buff you can melt any other 2 person combo except Genji who can counter you, but if you bait the counter he loses. I played a lot as mercy and found out if me and bastion got in a good position on defense 90% of the time it was a guaranteed win assuming the other 3 team mates weren’t utter garbage. Some maps you can literally spawn camp people to death with mercy+reinhardt+2 bastion combo and there really isn’t shit the opponents can do about it. Even coming out with reinhardt shield won’t help them because damage buffed bastion can take down shielded reinhardt in less than 3 seconds EVEN if he has healer support. With two they won’t be able to even output enough damage to tickle your reinhardt’s shield.

Do one of the following

  • lower turret damage by 10-20%.
  • more spread or falloff damage with distance so they can’t have sniper like damage at ranges only like 2 characters can fight at.

Mercy
Allow use of LShift without Line of Sight. This is needed. To many times I need to move between cover to help different people and I can’t because of LOS issues. Like I can see their blue outline but I the lip of a ledge makes it impossible to get the LShift lock on. I’d also like it to not have a distance limitation so she can return to the fight quicker personally. In excahnge increase the cool down from 2 to like 4-5 seconds if they remove distance limitation otherwise leave it at 2 seconds.

Lucio is much faster and actually doesn’t deal 100% garbage damage. Also his heal is passive and aoe. Having better movement in exchange for having garbage damage and having to focus on 1 target when healing seems fair to me.

Also her LShift is almost worthless on some maps because of them being confined. Open maps that are large with a good pharah her mobility can actually be amazing, but it just can’t be used in to many situations making Lucio a better pick except for with the bastion combo or in certain defensive situations imo.

Reaper
He seems pretty underwhelming. I don’t understand what advantage he has over McCree, Tracer, or Soldier 76. Those 3 are basically better in all ways and they don’t have garbage close range guns with slow mobility. Reaper is good if his ult catches people bunched up unaware but so are about half the ultimates in the game.

They seem to want a hit and run style:

  1. Increase movement speed in wraith form.
  2. Make the teleport have like half its current cast time.

If they make Symmetra good then defensive teams will ALWAYS pick her on first objective for the teleporter. I’m not sure how you balance her without making her the 100% best pick on first objective defense. She needs a buff, but I haven’t played her enough to know the best way to do that.

Symmetra seemed like a character that would want on a king of a hill & defend a position map for her ultimate since a well placed portal can easily swing momentum at critical moments. That being said it seemed like a gamble strategy and required her in early game to build up the ultimate vs switching to her late game for it. On those type of maps I could see her shining in a well constructed & coordinated team. I think it’s a character that needs more experimentation on turret placement since you need to spread them apart to avoid a cluster of them getting one shotted. I was told that her primary weapon does more damage the longer it stays an anime and if you change targets it maintains the damage charge she did on a previous enemy. Secondary weapon goes through shields and does good damage so I manage to get a triple kill against a Reinhardt, Bastion, & Tjoborn that were riding on a payload.

Zarya seemed bad if she’s the sole tank of the party. She needs to be the off tank to Reindhardt/Roadhog, and someone told me that her primary does good damage if your shields (both for you and your party) absorb a lot of damage. The in-game description never mentioned that so it always seemed like her primary did shit damage but I guess that wasn’t the case. The shields also don’t last very long, which bothered me but her role is more of a hybrid role.

D’va seemed pretty underwhelming to me since her damage output is only good when she’s closer to someone; however, she’s really easy to hit with a huge hitbox, and apparently one of the larger head hitboxes making her really susceptible to snipers and McCree. The ultimate seemed lack luster depending on the opposing party composition; for example, Winston can completely nullify it by placing his barrier on top of the mech. Her shield seemed good against Bastion’s turret mode but you need someone behind you to take out Bastion at that point and in solo queue not everyone thinks on the same page.

Zenyatta felt underwhelming to me since he’s so squishy but his DPS is high with the debuff orb, which was great for killing Tanks. I really like this character but it was very hard to make him work in a solo queue situation. It also didn’t seem like he could be the sole support character on a team and you needed Lucio or Mercy to be on primary healing duties, while he off heals and dps. His ultimate is great when you’re pushing an objective or playing defense as a group. I’ve been told that his Ultimate makes nearby allies invulnerable and helps nullify other ultimates when timed properly but the in-game description says he’s invulnerable and he heals nearby allies. Not sure if this was something that was changed from a closed beta, and I didn’t use him that much in the open beta to take notice of its properties.

Even though I like the game as is and have lots of fun, I wonder if rank will do something like 1 hero per team. Even pro games when I was watching in Dreamhack like to stack up on certain heroes.

What happens when you bring a katana to a fucking endothermic blaster fight.

Weird thing about D.Va is her headshot hurtbox is right in her center. Even though she has a ton of armor, it makes it feel less than it should be. I don’t like her movement speed reduction when firing, especially since the damage falloff on her shotgun goes down pretty fast when they try to backpedal. I do like the concept of having a mech mode and a pilot mode, since she can do some decent damage on foot, but I think mech mode needs some fine tuning. I do like her flight skill though, it feels great to fly around like that, it would be cool if it did more than 1 little bar of health when you land the hit though.

I really like Zenyatta, but I do think a slight health buff will help a bit. Just enough to survive a bodyshot from Widowmaker. Right now he can get killed in 1 shot without it landing on the head, and in general any hero with a strong range game can neutralize him fast because he isn’t as evasive as other healers and lacks self sustain. His dps is really great though and orb of discord just melts tanks.

Yeah there are too many characters right now that are just ā€˜the best’ at their job class so when going after certain strategies it is best to stack certain hero’s. Notably bastion. Also McCree seemed a bit too good to me. His ult kinda sucks but he has one of the best guns in the game for mid range which is where the majority of fighting happens and he has the stun which is a guaranteed kill. Though I’m not 100% convinced you’d ever go over 3 of any 1 hero. A support is 100% necessary and a tank seems necessary when attacking otherwise you won’t ever make enough head way against some defenses to do anything.

Like for support 90% of situations want Lucio and the remaining 10% are Mercy. You can have Zen as a ā€˜off healer’ maybe but I’m not sure that is ever optimal.

Torb’s turrets are fine. If anything, they need a buff or Torb himself needs a buff. Level 1 doesn’t do anything and level 2 does decent damage at best. His level 2 turret has a measly 250 hp with no armor, making them extremely fragile. His turret is only a REAL threat when he uses his ult, but typically you can wait that out if you have not hard committed to a push. Torb is a bit better than Bastion as someone who specializes in static defense, but both heroes suffer the same problems; Torb just offers more to the team with armor and being able to cover multiple points at once.

I thought Zarya was really weak until I played her more. She’s just… difficult to use. It’s a bit weird to wrap your head around how she should be played, but she’s a good off tank (primary tank should be regulated to Reinhardt, or to a lesser extent, Winston) due to her ability to help herself and her team absorb damage, which increases her damage. Zarya with a 100 meter damage increase is no joke. She is also good against heroes that cannot deflect beams, like Genji and D.Va.

Symmetra is situationally strong. Her shields are pretty decent and her teleporter ult are great when your team has a long run back and need to desperately defend or push a point. I don’t think she’s complete garbage, but she has her place on some maps.

Anyone know how to edit a video to block off chatbox? I had a nice clip but realized the RealID is showing too much and I don’t want to let that all out.
But the clip is too hot to pass up on.
5 Roadhogs+Lucio eat a JunkRat tire during Zarya’s vaccuum ultimate.

Beta ends. We get bored.

Back to Hitman for me.

Unlocked a purple d.va skin and gold tracer skin on last day of beta

I tried symmetra a few times, but man she just feels like ANYBODY can replace her. I could just suck with her, too.

Zarya… Hmmm, maybe I just need more time with her. Got hit with her ult combined with junkrats ult, so that was pretty badass.

I like d.va. I just play her like a bruiser; run in close and do some damage, harass the shit outta healers and squishy dps, jet off when taking too many hits. And she can take a good amount of damage, plus they have to kill the pilot, who can also kill with her pistol. She’s pretty fun.

How do you guys feel about this list? I haven’t use Lucio, but every time he was on my team I won his versatility with speed up or heal is just so fucking good I don’t think he’s close to OP or anything, but I think he’s easily the best support in the game I’d rather have him than Mercy because that speed boost is nice for getting out of bad situations.

Also Tracer at tier 3 WTF lol otherwise I mostly agree with the list or don’t have enough knowledge in the characters to comment lol.

Mained Symmettra and Winston.

Winston is pretty good. Probably one of the most unpopular heroes but I expect him to be played more often.
Nice barrier for protection. Can Protect yourself. Your own snipers. Alot of utility.

But one of the key thing his his anti sniper and repositions very well. He is very good at diving in, being beefy with his ult and causing havoc.
Moving people to alot of locations in order to take points. Move enemy to your team.
After you ult, you can barrier and jump again. It is freaking crazy yet no one realizes it.

Although most nowadays kinda make fun of him though maybe since he is a gorilla.

I think it has some strange placements. Widowmaker should be higher, because having a sniper role is hugely important, not only on defense but offense. I was at Dreamhack Austin and at certain points in the game, the pro teams will bring out a few widowmakers (They only do like 3 at most of one character iirc) to ā€œbunker bustā€ an objective that the other team was trying to hold out on and pick off the heroes on it so the tanks like Reinhardt or Roadhog can move in and contest it. Just in general, since this game has a lot of verticality, I think Widowmaker does very well since she has some pretty good places to position herself on maps. Even though she can get flanked, the person usually has to go out of their way and with a good team it can be hard since the main point is more about objective taking than just fragging people.

I dunno if Junkrat would be last tier either, since he also seems to do great on some maps. Since he has so much explosions going on, he does make it difficult for a team to hold a point if he is trying to harass them off it. Junkrat’s Ultimate also kills Reinhardt, who pretty much is a top tier tank at this point.

edit: Well the intro does say this list is about playing with randoms, so it is hard to gauge since there is so much variability in that kind of situation.

There is no way Tracer is that low.

I used to hate her until I started playing her and learning her movement. She’s insanely slippery to catch and kill, even with her crap health.

Junkrat is too low as well. If you catch someone in a trap it’s pretty much a free kill if you shoot em. His mine can also seperate a group with the knockback. Blow a rein away from his group and nuke his teammates!

In under a month I am completely convinced Overwatch memes are better than any of TF2’s memes during its entire life.

Winston imo is the best tank in the game by quite a bit. Only other one that really serves a purpose is Reinhardt for the shield. Winston has better utility, mobility, and damage then most of the other tanks. The only thing he lacks is Reinhardt’s shield which is probably the most useful ability in the game for pushing on attack.

Hanzo is too low. His projectile isn’t so slow you can dodge it consistently and it has really good damage. His ult if used correctly rather then just thrown out is a really easy way to just clear teams on some maps because it goes through WALLS. So many objectives he can just throw his ult and consume THE ENTIRE OBJECTIVE forcing them to evacuate or he gets an entire team kill.

Bastion to low, tier 2 because on defense he is fucking ridiculous, easily best defensive builder. On offense he is a bit lacking though.

Tracer I’m kinda mixed on. 200 HP Tracer would be Tier 1 but sometimes you just die to random shit. I got a lot of 19-2’s with tracer but had some 10-12’s where literally every death was someone just fucking spray and praying and one happened to randomly hit me when I went around a corner. She absolutely owns slow tanks since they literally can’t hit her. Reinhardt vs Tracer is 10-0 matchup if the Tracer knows what they are doing. Tracer’s best purpose is to flank in kill a healer then get da fuck out of there. McCree’s stun also owns her pretty hard. Not Tier 1 but I can’t see less than tier 2. I think she feels inconsistent to people and that is why they put her so low which I can kinda see to some extent. Having a time rewind doesn’t mean much when most shit 1 shots you.

Reaper to high. Tier 3 material. He can make big plays but there are characters that make better big plays more consistently.

Other than that i mostly agree or don’t know enough about to really say.
