He seems kind of ridiculous but apparently Yachiru counterpicks him enough to put up a fight. I kind of hope she manages to finish it herself though, I had always wondered if she might be secretly really strong

By now, I expect ALL the remaining Lieutenants to have Bankai. Shit Bankai probably, but Bankai nonetheless.
I’m trying to remember if there is any other shikai in the series that manifests another creature to fight, and I’m drawing a blank. All the others I can think of are just extra abilities or transformations of the sword itself.

I remember when having a Bankai actually meant something.
No you don’t. We were literally introduced to Bankai by not one but two characters who cut corners to get it a lot sooner than everyone else.
I have this feeling that Ken will show up to fight Vollstandig V and will beat his disappearing from your memories shtick with “I can never forget someone I’ve fought” or something.
Wasn’t Kurotsuchi the first one to introduce Bankai in the series…

My origanial theory was that she was Kenpachi’s zanpakuto, but yeah shikai without calling the name is a trait of having your bankai already according to the original explanation.

I don’t think this is a Kenpachi fight unless this guy’s next form is much stronger, as things stand now Yachiru is capable of beating him.
Kenpachi isn’t going to ‘save’ her this fight. I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat down V and another sternritter notices and THAT’S when Kenpachi plays his hand…with a sharp sword gasp…that has bells on it MUAHAHA.

And it hasn’t. First time it shows up, it gets bodied within 5 seconds. Then two characters hax their way into getting their own.
well they were halfed ass and it was stated they were because they haxed their way to get it. So I don’t think anyone’s all that surprised that 1 wasn’t even a actual Bankai to begin with and the other was a half assed jobber status bankai.
so yea they had them early on. But it didn’t really do much for half the cast. Only people who are so quick to pull it out is Hitsugaya/Renji/Ichigo/Komamura/Byakuya and you see how that worked out for them. (Ichigo receiving buffs in other areas not Bankai, Renji jobbing, Hitsugaya on and off, Komamura jobbing till the last fight. Byakuya seems to be the only one winning unwinnable battles out of these guys minus As Nodt.) Everyone’s getting bankai, but half of the people using them already suck when they use it to begin with.
But we had the argument on how everyone was so quick to go Bankai when the robbing started and how shitty most of the cast was because they did nothing but rely on bankai so much.
But again, having Bankai doesn’t mean anything, as you’ve proven. What matters is mastering the abilities you have.

Mayuri still won that fight though. He’s basically Batman in manga form, even when you think you won against Mayuri, you still lost.
