I know Hecatom is probably going to get on me for saying this, but it’s less that Kubo is good at foreshadowing and more that things have dragged out <i>so</i> damn long after the Soul Society arc that said foreshadowing was forever ago. Seriously, it’s been like a decade already since the Soul Society arc happened, <b>of course </b>that seems like “good” foreshadowing even though it’s something that’s been unnecessarily been hanging in the air for no reason and was obvious as hell. It’s just that Kubo a) often ruins things he builds via foreshadow, i.e. aforementioned abilities of Shinji or, hell, Unohana getting taken down in <b>4 chapters</b> after not getting to do anything for a decade, or b) ends up having to seemingly retcon shit to make the foreshadowing make sense, i.e. why such a seemingly relative weakling like Sasikibe was Yamamoto’s freaking vice captain. It’s all the more frustrating because, from the Aizen Reveal, we know that he <b>can </b>plot really well when he wants to; arguably, that’s when <i>Bleach</i> jumped the shark. It’s just…he often doesn’t, and characters and situations come off as completely dumb because of that.
