In order for Kenpachi to unlock his sword, a sacrifice of epic levels had to be performed. Only stabbing Unohana or Aizen (not possible) would have done the trick. I mean to learn Ultima you had to give up the right to have Atma Weapon if I remember correctly - just a law of balance.<br /><br>

It didn’t really work like that, you gave up the ragnarok sword for an esper. However you can still learn ultima from the paladin shield so I’d take the sword then bet it at the colissem to get the illuminar. So you get a chance to do 19998 damage from fight attack and the random casting of Holy. Plus teach everyone ultima from the paladin shield since everyone could equip it. I don’t see why anyone would ever bother taking the esper instead of the sword, you could only use the esper once in a battle and it’d normally miss and not do anything.</p><p> </p><p>Though item name changes occured in the GBA release (maybe even PSX release as well).</p>

your most likely right… but i’m still in the denial stage… have him learn his shikai out of his desperation to keep unohana around as a training partner, would make sense because the only way he can keep fighting someone will be to cure/raise them like unohana did with him.<br>

It’s hard to keep up with these threads as compared to before. 
This is such bullshit. You just lost your commander and now you go and kill one of your strongest warriors in exchange for another. Just terrible writing. Our only hope is she isnt really dead and Isane gets in there to heal her at the last second.<br>
I’m still really tight about losing Unohana, but I think this is mainly setting up for the last battle in more ways than one.<br><br>We’ve got the obvious Zaraki powerup, but I feel the real rub here is that outside of our new royal guard friend (and we have no guarantees that they will do anything significant combat-wise), the good guys don’t have a dedicated healer. This may be leading into a sort of “no take-backs” setting for the big battle on the horizon where you don’t get a get out of jail card when you get bopped; you either win or you get murked straight up.<br><br>I could be completely wrong, though.<br>
