I would compare him to Naruto’s Hidan. The only thing beating him was himself (and in Hidan’s case, being a total idiot).

The thing with Hidan is that he literally can’t die from normal means. Pair him up w/ Kakazu and you got some ZMC or Morrigan/Doom levels of BS or even ST Akuma levels of BS. If you even rush his shit down, and he dgaf and would probably rush you down too (he has literally Nothing to loose) and the minute he gets blood it’s over. I get your point though.
Speaking about Prep time, Hidan only lost since he gave Batman his god damn prep-time to run it back. Holy crap, thinking about it now, if Hidan and Shikimaru ever worked together that would be some OP level shit right there.
Actually Hidan does have things to lose. Without Kakuzu around, if he loses limbs he’s much less effective because he has no one to heal them. Hidan is no solo-artist, he needs a partner in order to have backup healing and prep time. He’s like Strider in MvC2. With Kakuzu assist he destroys, without he isn’t that special.

Hidan is a far cry from Barragan… for being kage tier who was a nearly immortal he was sorta slow, sorta sloppy with taijutsu, and had a two hit gimmick that was his only means of beating anyone within his tier or even a rank below.
Let Soifon be nearly immortal and you have a better Hidan with a better double tap gimmick, and a bloody tampon missile for ranged combat.

Not to get even more naruto in my bleach but… special-K wasn’t kage tier, and among the red cloud coat mafia Hidan was the slow one. Also for his primary method of attack being cqc with that axe he lacked the polish to nick the ninja. Boomshika dodges better that Hidan strikes.

The question can also be asked as to why Urahara’s and Kyoraku’s Zanpakutou is female. Kyoraku obviously cos he’s a pedo and Urahara probably experimented on his, just like how Mayuri can change Zanpakutou genders.

Yeah, Barragan is so much higher than Hidan on the “I have broken shit, why did I lose?” scale that it’s not even funny. Barragan had what basically amounts to time control minus time travel and time stoppage considering he could both rapidly age things and slow down time in his local area. Hidan just had an…interesting but ultimately shitty form of immortality that didn’t even come with regeneration or real permanence.
Still, it’s an interesting comparison given their motifs and that both of them fucked around too much. Of course, with Hidan it was because he was a sado-masochist who was literally getting off on his abilities whereas Barragan was just bored as fuck due to being so powerful that he became (somewhat justifiably) extremely arrogant until Aizen hypnotized him.
I mean, it’s rather telling that Hidan lost once his gimmick’s rules were all found out and once he was by himself since, as Saitsu pointed out, Hidan also needed support. Barragan meanwhile only lost to another broken character who can trap people in nigh-impenetrable barriers, can use said barriers to bisect & kill people and can tele-frag people with them apparently. And even then, a lot of people still think Barragan got bullshitted while everyone just realized that Hidan was fucked as soon as Shikamaru got him alone.
Basically, against Hidan, if you know what he can do, you can prepare and he has to both touch you and set-up against you to be a real threat, which he can’t really do alone. Against Barragan, even if you knew what he could do, you had to have something that could even stand touching or could even get near the guy long enough to hurt him to stand any chance at all, which most of the cast didn’t (and still don’t) have.
Yeah, I figured that was the case. It was just easier to troll, especially considering how much I typed after that. Given how well treats the rest of the Eleventh Division, I could definitely see that being the case. …Actually, it’s rather “shocking” to realize that Kenpachi is probably the most compassionate Captain when it comes to his squad after Ukitake and maybe Unohana & Kyoraku.
If Yachiru really is his sword, though, then it makes little sense why she seems to have her own (seemingly different) Zanpakuto or why no else would have noticed from at least the really old staff, i.e. Yamamoto, Kyoraku, Ukitake, Unohana, etc., or even just Mayuri’s Science Division. Of course…I think Zangetsu seems to have his own sword (or version of himself) when he’s fought Ichigo and I can’t remember ever seeing Kenpachi’s sheath… Additionally, sense and Bleach tend to be anathema to one another, so…
If she really is his sword, then that makes her trolling of his already bad sense of direction even more amusing.

Kyoraku: He’s obviously gay/bi for Ukitake, but at the same time he seems legitimately somewhat lecherous towards women enough to want to pillage their “booty”. Also, (fictional) pirate wenches tend to be attractive and capricious, which fits into his Calvinball-esque wind powers. When combined with the fact that he’d probably be one of those people who’d constantly feel himself up in a full-body mirror if he had breasts, I’m not really that surprised his Zanpakuto is Japanese Ruby Heart. And now he has an eyepatch to go with hers.

Urahara: Like you said, he possibly experimented on his though considering it’s probably been named Benihime from the start, that’s debatable. We still know very little about Urahara except that he’s a less evil version of Mayuri and even Mayuri seems to want to “family”, even if it’s a really fucked up version, considering he created Nemu and calls her his “daughter” (when he’s not horrifically abusing her). When combined with the fact that, unlike Mayuri, Urahara seems to generally like people and seems comfortable living a domestic-esque like with Tessai, Yoruichi and the others, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted the same thing if that’s a legitimate answer for Kenpachi, whose motivations are much clearer and singular.

Considering that they were pretty much aware of what was happening on SS, HM and the powers and abilities of Shinigamies and Hollows, we could assume that they also know about the Ishidas

But Hidan has a lot of counter picks honestly. At his core, he’s a melee fighter. I don’t see how he’d touch Neji. Sage Naruto would thrash him, all it would take is one Rasenshuriken to the grill. Gaara and his siblings all have favorable matchups against Hidan. And of course, Sasuke bodies him free. And this is just the start…
Barragan gets counter picked by only Hachi and Orihime…that’s it. And it’s only Theory Orihime at that.
