Bleach DS Thread

Well I was meant to receive this today, but when they UPS guy turned up he said I had to pay a 25.00 charge for tax and shit like that. I didn’t have any cash to hand, so he’s either bringing it back later today or tomorrow (I reckon tomorrow) when I’ll have some cash on me.

The point of that little anecdote is that now that I should be playing that game I can’t stop thinking about it and have even just been on YouTube looking at vids for it. Then I thought I’m come her but I couldn’t see any Bleach DS threads on this forum, so I thought I’d ask anyone who has it to post strategies or cheap dirty tricks they’ve noticed (RC type things) as well as perhaps any tier ideas.

Also, if it uses friend codes (I haven’t played WiFi DS yet, so I don’t know how it works) then of course feel free to post yours here too.

I just recently got the game. It’s pretty good… Bleach DS reminds me of alot of Guilty Gear/Samurai Shodown mixed in with MvC2-style air combos. I like it. It got me into the anime as well.

Who else around here plays this game competitively?

I picked up this game at Otakon. Thought I was purchasing it new, turns out it was used. All the characters unlocked/etc. Which is fine with me, I didn’t feel like playing through the story mode at all.

Anywho, I really like this game. When I was at Evo Finals I saw some people playing it (although never when I had my DS on me). The combo system is nice, I’ve found at least one true infinite (although they don’t matter because of the “Damage Break” system… Use 1 stock of meter to do a move like Bursts in GG).

A quick rundown of the game for those who don’t have it/might be interested:
This game is a 2D fighter. The system is reminiscent of MvC2 and Guilty Gear. It features two “rows” where you can jump from front to back. Each character has a life bar, a super meter, and a 3-level “EX” meter that allows you to perform EX versions of moves or Shunpo. Shunpo is teleportation. Not all characters have a true teleport, only the Shinigami (and Ishida, who is a Quincy). This leaves 4 characters (I’m pretty sure… Orihime, Sado/Chad, Ganju, and Tatsuki) with special “Shunpo” replacements.

I do not think Kon and Bonnie (the pig) would be tournament legal. Kon is just so fucking small 90% of the moves whiff on him, and I’m pretty sure the pig can’t be thrown, and also just straight up sucks anyways.

There are three attack buttons.
Y: Light Attack
X: Medium Attack
A: Heavy Attack.

There are three “Function” buttons.
B: Shunpo (teleport, uses one of your EX stocks.)
L: Switches to front or back row.
R: Blocks (hold back does too, but this way if someone crosses you up you still block)

Game System:
Attacks chain up. L -> M -> H. You can also chain from standing to crouching. Assuming you’re still in range, you could possibly do L -> cL -> M -> cM -> H -> cH. I don’t think anyone in the game has the range to do this.

Most standing or crouching Heavy attacks are launcher moves (ala MvC2).

EX stock regenerates over time. Certain actions prevent it from recharging. I believe jumping, air dashing, and while attacking you don not regenerate. I don’t really pay enough attention.

All characters can double jump once. (For some reason Kyoraku can air jump again using EX meters. This allows him to do multiple chains in the air. The combo I use with him looks something like: launch -> L M H -> j -> L M H -> j -> L M H -> j -> L M H -> j -> L M H -> HCF H (EX version) HxxQCF QCF H (any button, I just hit H because that’s what I’ve been hitting). You can repeat with another HxxQCF QCF H if you’re spaced right from the wall.

All characters can air dash. (Except maybe Bonnie. I haven’t even played her in training mode, so I don’t know.) Technically all characters have 8 way dashes since you can Shunpo in the air in any direction (at the cost of an EX stock).

The first attack landed grants 1 stock of meter. This is useful in gaining the lead obviously.

Characters can perform a “Damage Break” when getting hit at the cost of one stock of meter. This move is similar to “Burst” in the GG series.

All special moves and supers can be performed as guard cancels. This includes Shunpo. Remember to hold the direction you want for Shunpo, or it will go where you’re facing (which might be backwards).

Certain characters have level three supers. Sometimes these are “Ban Kai” which grant special properties to the character. For instance, Ichigo’s level three super activates his Ban Kai, in which Ichigo’s sword turns from giant to normal (but the blade is black) and his outfit changes. Also the hilt of his sword is a swastika or something. He cannot walk, but his dash is insanely fast. He also cannot be knocked down during this mode, and he only has one attack string regardless of the button you push. His first standing normal is a projectile, and his air normal is a projectile. I believe he cannot perform any specials during this, but his normal attack string does lots of damage. I’m not sure if he can be thrown. Some Ban Kai are like this, power ups for the character. Others are just full screen moves that do lots of damage.

I haven’t counted, but it seems like the average life for characters is 300. The average chain combo into launcher does around 30. Most supers do between 20->70 (depending on the super). Level 3 supers vary, but many of them do upwards of 100+ damage. Some characters have less life (Tatsuki for example, she has like no life.)

As you play the game, you’ll notice your touch screen has two faces on it. These are either buffs or debuffs (too much WoW for me!). So far what I’ve figured out:
Sad faced guy: Balances life between all characters. Don’t use this unless you’re behind because if you’re ahead it’ll make all your life bars equal. I assume it just totals all the life points and redistributes them.
Happy faced guy: Gives your character a “Genei Jin” like effect. No, it’s not as good, but all of your hits hit 2 or 3 times (there are varying levels to this, 2 and 3 that I’ve seen.)
“Hollow” Ichigo (the character Ichigo but all white and evil looking: Gives you 3 levels of meter regardless of how much you had. Lasts for 2 seconds. After those 2 seconds are up you go to 0 meter. Use it or lose it.
Chick with black hair: Heals you for a certain amount.
I haven’t figured out the rest. I don’t really use the cards. I’m sure you can find a FAQ if you’re really interested in them.

Also, you’ll notice a “Change” button. This allows you to pull up a menu with blue bars that have letters on them, and a few (1-3) red ones with letters. Touching these performs your special (blue bars) or supers (red bars). This is a neat idea, but it doesn’t allow you to control the strength of the moves you do. It will always do an EX or if you’re out of EX meter or the move is not EXable, it’ll do the Medium version. There are 3 strengths of special moves, Light, Medium, and EX. If you do not have EX meter hitting the touch screen or using the Heavy button performs the one you’d do with the medium button. There are exceptions to this: Ukitake throws out these glowing balls with his DP+Button move. The heavy one goes forward, Medium goes up/forward, and Light goes straight up.

Almost all normals are special/super cancellable. Most specials are super cancellable.

Many throws can be comboed off of. Some of them only in the corner. In the case of Yoruichi and Aizen this is extremely obvious; their throws put the opponent in a “paralyzed” state (that is, they are stunned and have yellow stuff around them) For some reason when Yoruichi has her “Genei-Jin” super active, sometimes her throw just throws them instead of stuns them.

Um, that’s about all I can think of right now. Oh. I know. Settings.

Default time is infinite. I generally set it to 3 minutes when VSing the computer (that’s all I have to play as I’m not even in the US! And no, I can’t play online, I use satellites for my internet, which give me extreme latency.)

The “Demo On/Demo Off” option allows you to skip Ban Kai activation scenes (a small scene will play when someone performs one. Usually they say something in Japanese, and then say “Ban Kai” and then it cuts back to the game. These are fun the first couple of times you see them, then they get annoying.)

As far as Vs Computer, you can set their AI (AI 8 is still pretty dumb, but they do decent combos). For some reason setting the computers handicap to Maximum results in them doing extreme damage to you, but when you hit them you gain MASSIVE amounts of meter. We’re talking a full bar from one chain -> launch -> chain -> jump -> chain combo. Normally this gives you varying amounts depending on the number of hits (some characters jumping Heavy moves send the opponent to the ground instantly, which kills further comboing.)

Well, I’m about tapped. I really like this game and hope other people are still playing it when I get back to the US in December. As I understand it, a Bleach DS 2 is coming out soon… at least Play-Asia is advertising it.

Any questions? I’ll answer them when I wake up unless someone else has gotten to it. I might post some combos/strats I’ve developed with the characters I play (not yet tested on humans though, but I play enough games I think I know when something is going to work good on live people. Maybe you guys with comp can be my guinea pigs!)

Before I got to bed, I figured I’d post up a quick tier listing. Not quite accurate as it lacks alot of competative play, but it’s pretty easy to say “This character sucks”.

Great: Aizen. Yoruichi. Um, the chick who likes Yoruichi (the one with Ninjas!). The old guy is looking pretty damn good too. I also think the guy with the mask and the chick following him is frigging great, he’s got amazingly long combos and can keep people locked down by alternating between his EX chick grabbing opponent move and super (comboed of course).

Good: Pretty much everyone else. I’d say Ukitake is great, but he randomly does this cough thing when you do too many specials. I remember from the series he’s sick or something, but shit like that is annoying in games.

Bad: The pig. Maybe the little girl (though she does seem to do good on people with alot of high moves/specials, and her super isn’t too bad as long as you launch them or are in the corner). Kon (his supers are power ups, pretty confusing.) Tatsuki has OK combos, but very limited and corner only. Also her extremely weak defense means she gets fucked up before she can get combos off.

This isn’t very accurate as I’m very tired and don’t feel like typing more. I’ll expound more on it later if anyone cares.

Also Aizen is retardedly overpowered in my opinion. He can link his standing jabs, and dash cancel into jab. It’s a true infinite. [Jab DashxxJab]xN Of course he can mix it up as well, doing multiple jabs before dashing based on range. AND THEN he can activate his Ban Kai without skipping a beat. His Ban Kai is REALLY GOOD. All of Aizen’s specials are “Spell Moves”. Shooting lightning, fire, paralyzing, putting out a seeking fireball that attacks multiple times, etc. His Ban Kai makes it so a shadow image of himself casts the spells and Aizen goes about his business. You just input the command and go with it. He can have 2-3 shadows casting at a time before he himself does a spell. So he can do shit like Jab infinite, Ban Kai, continue infinite (0 cast time, 0 recovery on the Ban Kai) and then tap DD and any attack button while jabbing to have the bankai do his seeking fireball, and then I usually do hcf attack, then dp attack while keeping up with the jab infinite. It’s hard on your fingers, but you can do 50%+ damage with this and if your opponent damage breaks you’re usually far enough away that it doesn’t matter because Aizen’s jab is a FUCKING FIREBALL.

I cannot stress how I feel Aizen is retardely overpowered.

I got my game in the mail today. Playing Gin so far, the only one of the non-unlockables. Tried story mode to unlock crap but got stuck in some loop, probably because I needed to fulfil some goal during the fight. I’ll check some faqs to see what I need to do. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seems pretty fun so far though. Has some Guilty Gear thing going on.

Edit: Found the guy with the mask and the chick just now, he seems really nice to play. I’ll try him out I think.

I wish I could remember that guys name, but I’ll just pretend like I do for now. A couple of combos with him that aren’t too hard. I’m not going to do basic combos like “L M dH jump L M jump L M H” because that’s super super basic. A note on that: his jumping H move sends the opponent to the ground, killing any further comboing.

Key:
IAD = Instant Air Dash (up+forward, forward)
L = Light Attack
M = Medium Attack
H = Heavy Attack
c = Crouching
a = Aerial (move done while jumping)
xx = cancel
Any = Any attack button.

  1. IAD aM aH land L M H xx HCF H (requires EX meter)
This is a pretty basic combo with him. With the EX meter the girl will run and grab your opponent, leaving you free to do alot of stuff with them, such as repeating this combo. Obviously you can do it up to three times if you have three stocks of meter. Afterwards, I normally follow up with combo #2.

  2. IAD aM aH land L M H xx QCF QCF Any (Requires 1 level of Super meter)
Same combo as above, but with a super to finish. About his super: at the end it paralyzes/stuns the opponent. They will be leaning over, making it hard to hit them with air moves afterwards, but you get free attacks. I usually follow this up with L M H xx QCF H, which puts your opponent back in the position of being held by the girl.

Normally all I do with him (being as I only have the computer to play) is DP + L, then IAD in with aM then aH. If this is blocked, I usually land and do L M then cancel into DP + L and go for the IAD again. the computer is pretty dumb and will usually get hit by this. If my air moves connect, I do combo #1. After the girl is holding them, I do combo #2. From there I do L M H xx HCF H and repeat combo #2. I do this till I’m out of meter or the opponent damage breaks. Like I said, the computer is dumb and will eat these chains all day.

If I don’t have meter I’ll do cL cM cH jump aLx2 aM jump aLx2 aM aH XX DP + M. Sometimes I do RDP + M in the corner, because the computer usually does the wakeup hop out of the corner. I guess I forgot to say: all moves can be done backwards and you’ll go in the opposite direction.

For some reason he can do his DP + Any and his D, U + Any in the air. The D + U move makes the girl explode, I don’t recommend doing it as you’ll have to wait several seconds for her to reappear.

In the corner you can throw your opponent, and then super and do a ground chain into the girl’s grab, or what have you. Alternatively, you can do cL cH and do an air chain. Sometimes if you’re super close to the wall you have to do the super backwards.

I’m tired, so I’ll leave you with that. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I’ve noticed recently through experimentation that there are a pretty decent amount of castmembers that have the jab~dash~jab infinite, thankfully most of them are quite strict some are waaay too easy.

Question: I’m trying to unlock everyone, and I’ve gone through all the story modes on the characters I’ve unlocked. The last story mode that I’ve completed was the mask-less dog captain guy, and supposedly it was supposed to unlock Aizen or however it’s spelled. Is there anything I could be potentially missing? The only decent GameFAQ’s guide didn’t offer the solution to my problem.

As far as story mode, I have no idea. My game was already completely unlocked when I bought it (if I had known I was buying it used I wouldn’t have bought it, apparently the guys there rewrapped it in plastic before selling it to me. Damn Otakon dealers).

And the dash jab dash infinites are pretty prolific, but they do like no damage. Alot of characters can do jumping infinites on standing tall opponents (fox head guy with mask/without mask pretty much). Aizen just tops everyone for his jab infinite due to the fact that if they damage break out, it doesn’t affect Aizen if he’s at the right range because his fireball is not considered part of his body. It’s a combination of range/properties on the move. Also that he can start it from like anywhere/anything. Land a random jab? Follow up with the infinite no prob.

I do need to get some actual competative play in because all my info thusfar is based on playing the computer/dicking in training mode/theory fighter. If anyone has any real experience vs other people please let us know how things actually play.

For starters, make sure Ichigo’s Story Mode is “Completed” and not “Cleared.”

Completed = 100% Done
Cleared = Finished, but missing stuff.

Only when Ichigo’s Story is “Completed” can you go on to unlock the other characters. Well, if that’s not the case, you have to be a bit more specific. I’ve unlocked all the characters on my own, so ask away.

BTW, the “mask guy with the girl”'s name is Mayuri Kurotsuchi…and yeah, it’s not a mask, either. It’s facepaint. But it’s ok. I had trouble remembering all the names (particularly the last names) until i watched the anime.

Here’s the official site:
http://bleach.sega.jp/nds/index.html

Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_DS:_Souten_ni_Kakeru_Unmei

I wish the SRK Bleach DS Wiki was working now…whomever that contributed to that did an excellent job outlining the game…

zaraki kenpachi is a fucking monster in this game

other top tiers include ishida, and soi fon, and aizen
also there are a few “infinites” in this game. aizen’s is one of the more difficult ones for me…

rukia and tatsuki have that same running lp infinite only much easier
yoruichi has an unending jumping lp infinite
and soi fon has a dive kick infinite(the best one as far as im concerned)

yea those are the ones i can think of right now

I’ll have to try out Rukia and Tatsuki’s infinite. Tatsuki takes damage like a BITCH but has some awesome corner combos with stuff like throw, EX dash punch, light dash punch xx super, then whatever (ex dash, light dash, super again! Or air combo, it’s all good) If she can infinite to get to the corner to do this combo then that makes her decently good. Except for the whole “one super takes 50% of my life” thing.

I can’t get Yorouichi’s jumping light kick to infinite on normal height characters. Is there a trick to this? Also, can she use her geneijin type super with it? I know that super can turn a normal ground chain into launcher into a huge chunk of damage.

What is Soifon’s infinite? I know her “Tons of Ninja’s” super is just too damn good, it lasts forever and she can hit some good damage off of it.

I haven’t played much with Kenpachi. Maybe we should start compiling strats here? I would imagine with his super armor type moves and maybe his super (what exactly does it do? All I’ve been able to figure out is that you cancel normals into normals continuously. What are the applications you use?)

Recently, I’ve been off the Bleach. When I was last playing I was dicking around alot with Chad and Ishida.

Yeah, I think we should start posting up character strats. This way I can mooch off of you people and get better without actually doing much. Such is the way of SRK.

everything i know about in terms of tiers mostly comes from what 've read in gasp gamefaqs… honestly their board is very helpful in that regard for this game.

yoruichi’s infinite doesnt work on mid to small sized characters

from what ive tried it works on komamura, koryaku, ukitake, byakuya, and i think mayuri but ill have to double check that

soi fon’s infinte is just jab dive kick, then jumping l.punch, and just repeat that ove and over again. the timing is precise, but it works on just about everybody.

kenpachi’s A super is one of the many things thats makes him so goddamn broken. what it does is make all of your normal chain naturally, and they are put in super hit, so you cant damage cancel out of any combos in that mode. so essentially all you ahve to do is get a generic launch, and do m.p,mp over and over again, combined with the double jump and air shunpo, you’re gonna get a good 100 damage guaranteed.

i dont nkow too much about alot of characters, but ido know kenpachi, tatsuki, rukia, soi fon, and yoruichi kind of ok…

my copy of bleach doesnt let me go online so i cant even play anybody and learn to get good at the game unfortunately

Didn’t know this thread was here…(like a majority of people I rarely read Other Games section), only came here because I saw this thread title in the category listings.

Anyways…

The dash Weak attack infinites suck for everyone but Aizen. Not only do they do poor damage overall (it’ll take FOREVER to kill someone with it), damage cancelable, but it’s not work the effort to try to keep it going online due to the random freeze lag. It’s better to stick with your characters BnB whenever you get a clean hit.

The dash infinites are only useful with Aizen just because of the natural of his normal attacks all being projectiles and he doesn’t really have any damaging BnBs anyways…it’s more of an annoyance factor than anything with him.

Same with Soifon’s dive kick infinite, it’s a waste of time. With Yoruichi’s jumping infinite…just do a few reps (like 2) and go into her damaging BnBs.

Kenpachi is God Tier because of:

  • Teleport: Instant start-up, no recovery. If the opponent wants to you, you literatlly can’t touch him if they felt like it. You can tone the annoyance of this by jumping but due to no air throws in this game (this is being fixed with the sequel) it basically just stalls abuse until you both touch the ground. Also Ganju can sort of counter this with his sand traps but overall Kenpach is just a better character than him so Ganju isn’t really a counter-character or anything.

  • Super A: From one hit, this allows Kenpachi to do 100+ damage (characters only have 255 points of health) easily. This is a level 1 super that rivals the damage and ease of use of most characters level 3 supers. The Super A BnB is usually anything into launcher then j.Mxn repeatedly as many as you can get in one air combo.

  • Charge Slash: He has auto-guard frames on it meaning he will go through any move and unlike Chad’s charge punch there is no recovery time on it. This is a nasty Guard Cancel move to abuse.

Note: It seems to be a fetish of game-devs to make Kenpachi as broken as possible in any Bleach game.

Soifon, Aizen, Uryu (Ishida), and Yachiru are below in just normal top tier.

Join #bleach_ds on irc.rizon.net if you want to play with other BDS players, I sometimes drop by there myself.

Here is some guide(s) for getting there:
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=929449&topic=30943311

yea that teleport is retarded. if tosen tries his A super you can just mash on the A on your touchscreen and you will go through the entire thing

not to mention that move that increases his range to ridiculous proportions

PS: how do people play online? do they use cards? if they do i have to assume that ichigo is another strong character since you can just stuff your deck with as many hollow-ichi and yachiru cards and abuse his bankai…

Well as you know before a match you’re giving the option of selecting card decks or playing with none.

Generally most people play w/o cards but you can’t always expect a card-free match if you play randoms on the “JAPAN BATTLE” setting (aka as Random Match).

However under “FRIEND BATTLE”, unless both players agrees to it matches are played w/o cards 99% of the time (1% being the random newbie). That’s why I recommend going to #bleach_ds channel for setting up matches. For shits and giggles, sometimes we do a 4 player Bankai Ichigo match (meaning everyone uses Ichigo with a deck full of Super giving cards).

Ichigo’s Bankai is actually pretty shitty though. The general strat is to run away in the air since he has a limited selection of attacks in the air (read: only one). If you’re dealing with the “berserker” Bankai Ichigo types then you can just remain in air guard for the whole time which results in you taking no damage.

The more smarter Bankai Ichigo players are alittle trickier and you’ll have to be more creative with dodging but once you understand how limited he is during that mode it’s not so bad and at best you may only take a hit or two which makes a waste of 3 bars.

Also to counter card users, you can use the Force Reistu card (it has a picture of Ichigo’s female classmate with long black hair). This character forces the opponent to use all cards in their decks automaticlly. Spam a few of these and you can turn the match to “normal”.

Actually with cards, Hinamori is Uber tier. Unblockable + Hollow Ichigo cards = Super B instant-death.

Is it possible to do three player wifi with friends? We keep trying but it always just picks up 2 people and goes on right to a match.

You can play 4 player wifi if you wanted. Remember multiplayer is handled under the Red categories. The generally most used option set is to have the first option Red and the second option blue (known as RB aka Red/Blue).

Have all 3(or 4) players search at the same time under “FRIEND BATTLE” and if lucky you’ll be thrown into a 3 player match. Sometimes wifi acts ghey and leaves out a person. The Wifi Network in BDS isn’t exactly as good as it should be mainly because it was made by a third-party, Treasure addressed this issue and said they would improve it in the sequel.

The sequel’s meant to be coming out soon. You can preorder it here, but there’s no real info on it.
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9g-77-8-49-en-15-bleach-70-1i8b-43-99.html

i saw some pics for the sequel, and they are goin by the manga… spoilerulquiorraspoiler was one of the selectable characters

so hows the multiplayer?

do i need 2 carts to play this or is 1 fine?
