Yeah, the most notable changes are the top spot and Jin’s placement;
Apparently no Jin players made it pass the 2nd round of sbo; couple that with the Carls and Litchis that beat out numerous Nu players, and you have yourself the explanations for Nu’s recent drop and the Carl/Litchi augmentation, which just happens to raise them above Jin…
EDIT:
OH GOD, I just saw the travesty of a discussion on the Haku boards, and… OH GOD…
that list wasn’t calculated with the intention of being used as a tier ranking anyway. it’s an ELO calculation of character performance that just so happened, at the time (as in, not anymore), to use the most recent tier list as a baseline “guess” (right now the initial “guess” is 1000 for each character, though it makes little difference in the long run). So nobody should look at that list in the same way that they look at a tier list, especially since it only takes into account SBO results at the moment, making it highly inaccurate on top of being entirely independent of the tier list.
just wanted to point out the random dude with the new “official” list was ranting about how carl can attack while blocking and how that makes Nu obsolete…
Just sayin!
Jin is better than Carl, He has 0 bad matchups Carl has 2. Carl goes 5/5 against characters that matter (I think Nu vs Carl is 5/5 but i have a lot of carl experience) and only dominates the bottom tier like all the upper half of the tier list does. Carl’s lack of good buttons really puts him at the disadvantage in a lot of situations.
Ragna being 4th from bottom makes sense. His offense is easy to escape and only his overheads hurt. Long backdashes really hurt him as backdashing his
5D,6D, or 6B means BIG punishment. His 6B doesn’t cancel from 5B so it’s kinda predictable at times. On standing opponents he can’t get good damage without meter. His moves except 5B, 6A are pretty low priority (His j. C is oddly one of the easiest moves to anti-air).
Biggest problem is he has a hard time controlling his oppponent like Jin and most of his combo’s are tech’d in air thus easy to run from him after getting hit.
If I was going to fix ragna I’d make his Hell’s Fang followup untechable : P that would fix half his problems right there.
He actually ran ELO on it twice. Once using the Arcadia list as a “best guess” to start from. Then that stupid guy that doesn’t understand how ELO works started bitching, so he ran it again with a “guess” of 1000 to shut him up.
And yes, it’s not terribly accurate yet due to a lack of data points. It may never be accurate, depending on what you’re trying to get out of it, due to methodology.
I actually did read it, then decided it was a pretty good “tier list” (take that however you want ) and if I could change something it would be switching Ragna and Noel, probably because I have more experience with Ragna and more experience with shitty D-spam Noels. Anything else you want to tell me?
I was SOOOOOOO confused. I kept looking back at the first post of this thread and thinking ‘wtf is that guy talking about?’
Yeah yeah, forgot all the caveats the guy threw in. My excuse is “I didn’t want anyone to look at it and get the wrong idea!”, and I’m sticking to that.
Back on subject, I think they’re a little TOO down on Ragna. Theres something to be said for super-easy, damaging combos, even if he doesn’t quite have the tricks some people do.
LOL
Bang second worst character in the game???
Best joke I’ve heard all day
THANK YOU
That SBO Tier list means shit, single-elimination REALLY allows a lot of randomness to get by. If it was double-elimination, guaranteed more Jins would’ve got by, JUST SAYIN’
Yeah… top 3 probably aren’t going to go anywhere, but I do like how balanced this game is. Maybe at top level play Hakumen and Tager don’t do so hot, but casual level play they do just fine.
I wonder why Rachel’s listed so high on that list though… Rachel didn’t make it to top 4 and only one made it to top 8.
Though, I think that Arcadia match up list is silly though because it’s pretty easy to see it’s exaggerated. Tager vs. Nu having the same odds as Arakune vs. Nu… and yet Tager vs. Nu is supposed to be pretty much unwinnable while Arakune vs. Nu isn’t? And for the 8-2 Carl vs. Tager match up… I haven’t found one Carl player that agrees with that.
As for Carl… he has more than one loop. At least three different ones that can be a pain in the rear: Grab loop (the one that most Carl players use), Punch Loop, Clap Loop. Punch Loop is a pain in the corner because a good Carl can pretty much lock you down (see Dora vs. Dio). Grab loop does the most damage out of the three, but it’s techable. Clap Loop isn’t techable, but I honestly haven’t seen that many Carl players use it… even in pro matches (it’s kind of situational to set up).
I personally think we’re done here.
Maybe we should start this thread up again when the European version of BB drops.
So what have we learned, class?
Well, Kune has established himself as best character, also, Nu and Rachel still beast everyone. Carl has gone from worst character to 4th best via Clap Trap. Jin might not be as great as we originally thought as he gets topped by Carl and Litchi to take 6th place (4 DP’s still own, however)
Ragna goes from being top tier when BB first got released, to (Nearly) bottom tier in the matter of a few months.
And finally, buff Tager/Haku (AND RAGNA!)
Any questions?
