BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma EXTEND announced!

You might be right, but that doesn’t really matter. If there are fewer BB players overall, that means a higher percentage of them need to step up and go to tournaments in order to elevate the competition and get others interested.

While I can understand the idea that “since our game is less popular, we need to work harder” as a positive one, I think the flipside argument of “Your game is considered dead because you aren’t trying hard enough” is completely unfair, because we’re trying just as hard if not harder than any other game community, but by sheer numbers, that still adds up to a lot less total “trying” than SF4 and Marvel.

So what have all you “you all need to work harder” people doing to promote the game? :stuck_out_tongue:

You also have to keep in mind the nostalgia-bomb that is the entire Street Fighter series. Now that MvC has several games and a few years under it’s belt, people will be growing the same connection there too. Who doesn’t have awesome memories of MvC1 or MvC2 from the arcades?

I don’t feel that there is anyone to blame for the lack of “big community” for Blazblue, per se, there are just too many factors as to why the Capcom games dominate. I think that it is in our best duty as nerds to turn others on to sweet ass games in general and if they don’t want to… then they just have poor taste! F*ck it! We don’t need fickle people in any community so I’d rather it stay honest and niche than eventually become over-grown with weed-like people and parasitic personalities.

I’ve met a lot of great people through playing games and going to arcades in general but now that there’s been a ton of coverage of fighting games across the board, I feel that there is a strange pride thing going on. “This is MY shit so I won’t REALLY ever go touch YOUR shit because I’m already here” seems to be the general energy, at least in my perception and… Blazblue just seems to scare people off for what ever reason. xD

So many hills to walk up but I think the view might be worth it once Chrono Phantasma comes out!

I don’t have awesome memories of MvC1 and MvC2. In fact, I HATED those games and they drove me out of this hobby for over a decade. And I can’t imagine it’s a coincidence that MvC2 was one of the last major fighting games released for a large chunk of time. But yes, alas, a lot of people have fond memories of them.

I’m comfortable in BB at this point. I try to communicate what is good about it to people, and I try to be willing to try other games, but I keep coming back to what I like. At lot of fighting game fans, however, are super immature, judge books by their covers, etc, so I don’t really have a lot of hope for ever “making it big.” And I don’t think I care that much either.

My friend just posted on Facebook that CP is confirmed as a PS3 exclusive.

Why.

Did he have any official links?

Nope, and I commented asking for a source hours ago and he hasn’t responded. For some reason it seems like he just wants to shove that possibility in my face seeing as how I have an Xbox.

I mean, has there been anything on an Xbox release yet though?

Your friend is trolling you.

Is that a yes?

There has been no news claiming that BBCP will be PS3-exclusive as far as I’m aware.

He says this video “confirms” it.

But unless I’m missing out on something because I can’t read Japanese, that video doesn’t confirm shit.

I can’t believe people are still having this conversation.

So far, BBCP has only been announced for a Japan console release. The JP release is a PS3 exclusive, because no one in Japan plays on the XBox; it would be a total waste of money to port it to that system.

However, the worldwide release has not been officially announced yet, although we know it does exist because at least one actor has confirmed to be doing English voicework. Until that worldwide release is officially announced, there is absolutely no evidence that the international versions will also be PS3 exclusive. So stop getting yourself into a frenzy over nothing. Having a JP release be PS3 only and the rest of the world have it be multiplatform has been done before.

Yeah, that’s most likely how it’ll go down. I mean, like with a lot of Aksys fighters, the PS3 version is likely going to be the definitive one, but I’m pretty sure there’ll still be a 360 release in North America at least.

Kinda off-topic now, but RE local BB scenes: I’m stuck in a Street Fighter and Marvel area, too. Just like pretty much every scene in the U. S.

I take my PS3, BB, and P4A to every gathering. Several guys will try BB, but no one really tries to get good b/c they’ve all decided it’s “dead,” so my mediocre Lambda tends to roll everyone who will play, and they just fumble about against each other doing CS combos and complaining that it’s a bad game with stupid characters and dynamics. (Street Fighter and Marvel are somehow immune to these criticisms.) My scene is more willing to play Persona b/c they see its name in the big tournaments. It’s a “tournament game,” so it’s still “alive,” even though we’re not playing in those tournaments; we’re playing on couches and folding chairs with beer and chips.

Shit makes me rage.

You might not like this advice, but stop playing Lambda against them. The absolute worst way to introduce somebody to a game is to play a zoner and beat the crap out of them, because it’s very frustrating to play against, and very few people are inspired by watching it. At least if you just pick Ragna and perfect them with jesus kicks into day 1 combos, they’ll feel like they’re more involved in the match. Then you can explain to them “Oh yeah, this character is really easy, see? All I did was this and this”, and boom, maybe you get someone hooked on trying Ragna.

I’m actually not sure what to think of a “pick Ragna” thought process. On one hand, it’s absolutely genius, but on the other hand, it sounds like a bad idea.

Doesn’t really matter who you pick, as long as it’s someone a casual player will have a hard time calling “cheap” - i.e. not Lambda, Rachel, Carl, Mu, Noel, Valkenhayn.

Picking a simple character is best though, because most new players view anime games as overwhelming, and you can display to them that it’s easy to play the game somewhat competently. Once you make winning strategies accessible to them, they are more likely to want to compete.

Add Tager, Hakumen, Taokaka, and Arakune to that list.

And to be honest, even Ragna should be on that list. I mean, all these casual gamers have to do is google an Extend tier list, find a terribly crafted gamefaqs thread, and read the multitude of complaints relating to how cheap/easy Extend Ragna is.

“Easymode S tier? Fuck this”, etc, etc.

If you really don’t want to be “cheap” in the eyes of casual gamers, pick Makoto. I’d love to see a properly formulated argument that states why she is “cheap”.

Dat tail tho.

Well, to be frank; there will always be things to complain about. This is further reinforced by the fact that complaints are inherently subjective.

Examples:

Litchi - Fuck her normals and staffless mixup, her oki is so strong, her range is ridiculous, etc.

Valkenhayn - Fucking cheap mixup & damage, 2nd most mobile character in the game, solid normals, etc.

Arakune - Teleports & shit, goddamn cheap mixup and damage, j.B, etc.

Ragna - Fuck j.C, fuck his damage & meter gain, 5B, etc.

Iron Tager - Command grabs do so much damage, standing goddamn lows, too much health, etc.

Hakumen - Ho-fucking-taru, Tsubaki, Renka, Zanshin, etc.

Lamba - Stuck in blockstun for 5 minutes at a time, backdash is too good, burst safe combos, etc

Tsubaki - Can’t tell what move she is using due to animation ambiguity , fuck 2C, etc.

Hazama - Fuck 3C, fuck chains, fuck hotenjin, + on block, etc.

I can quite literally do this all day for every single character in the entire roster, this is quite obviously due to the fact that each character has at least something good/semi-unique about him/her.

I mean, yeah, I get it. Ragna has a very good j.C, congratulations you have accurately assessed one of his normals. But do I want to hear you chronically complain about it while at the same time calling my character cheap in a non-joking manner? No.

People should be prepared to lose when starting out a new fighting game. It’s an inevitably (in the majority of cases).

If I was you tibbs, I’d explain how the game works to them (general outline, game mechanics, etc). Perhaps even give a general description of each character and his/her playstyle(s).

But sitting there and babying them with a “non-cheap” character in order to stifle their nonsensically premature self-contrived bullshit formulations about BlazBlue in an attempt to get them to seriously consider playing it is just a ludicrously tedious task that I myself would never undertake.

Not everyone is going to enjoy BlazBlue, that’s a given. But people who subscribe to absolutely baseless preconceived notions are probably not worth you time.
