Noel was “punished” for spamming drive about three times, ALL because she WHIFFED (read: The Noel player screwed up) - though she also HIT the opponent out of their attempted punish about that many times, because LOLAutocorrectChainOnWhiff. She was NEVER punished on block. Not even once. She was beaten out by choosing the wrong drive maybe twice in the entire video, neither of which confirmed into meaningful damage. If anything, the reason the Noel player lost the second match was that she was playing too honest and not hitting drive enough.
The Platinum player was clearly a newbie, Noel did pretty much whatever she wanted, Plat never even did a combo. Ignoring this match.
Jin: Noel plays very honest for a while, and loses for it, but when she finally gets fed up and goes “wheee, drive!” towards the end of the second round, she gets her free mixup into 4.4k in the corner. The couple of raw drives in the 3rd round all hit.
Litchi didn’t seem very good either; Got hit by the couple of drives Noel threw out. One of them bluebeated because Litchi was a little far away, but the combo resumed anyway.
Not once did anyone ever “block and punish” any of Noel’s drive strings in either of these videos. Did you link the right videos?
People have already posted how to punish her. At this point, it’s all on you for not going on to find out about the matchup. I mean, if D spam was so damn good, why has she only been top tier in like, one iteration of the game? Noel isn’t like Hakumen or Ragna who can do legit pressure and frame traps with their normals and can end early to bait stuff out and whatnot (because ending without doing a special like bloom trigger means you have that extra recovery for your opponent to do whatever they want).
Pretty much. We end with Bloom Trigger and Assault Through because that’s the only thing safe for us to end with, and on block, Assault Through isn’t safe at ALL.
I gave you a joke answer video because by that point it had become clear that even though plenty of people, including myself, were giving you honest and useful advice, that you didn’t want to hear it and wouldn’t be happy with anything other than “yes, they ARE stupid!”, or “pick this character and you can punish it all the time”. If you really don’t want to have to put up with Noel at close range or something, then…I don’t know, try to learn Lambda/Nu and shoot swords all day from mid-screen, I don’t know.
Noel’s drive frustrates me, too, but I readily admit that I don’t have the kind of match-up knowledge to deal with anyone outside of who my local friends use. Plus, since they don’t really know how Lambda works, I can just control the screen with swords, which obviously doesn’t work against someone who knows Lambda well.
I do feel like, in BlazBlue, you need to learn how to use characters in order to know their weak spots/punishable attacks. I often just get locked down by Jins and Noels b/c I don’t know when to switch to offense, and I end up thinking “Oh, that looks unsafe–time for crouching B and go into–oh, wait, nope, that was safe. Fuck.” And then I eat 3-4k.
This goes back to my point about it being less beginner-friendly than a Capcom-type fighter or even KoF. Every character is just so different. And that’s why I love it.
I’ll be handing my finalized thesis to the grad college on April 1, so I’ll be available to play vidya again. We should start playing each other online around then. Set up an SRK Extend room. I suck, but I don’t mind losing. Feel free to add me on PSN: mr_nezbit.
Even though people already said how to deal with it. And if you still can’t figure it out then stop asking to be spoon fed the answer. It’s harder to stop Rags doing 5BxxDead Spike, repeat than Noel Drive.
Damn. I don’t visit the thread for a few days and I miss this shitstorm.
Having just read all that, I have to agree with Airk here. The advice you guys gave wasn’t all that useful tbh.
Also, what makes Tager and Mu fraudulent friendly?
Console release is going to take a while, since they’re overhauling Story Mode and possibly (hopefully?) adding Saya and the cat people. I’m guessing mid-summer release at best. And that’s not accounting for localization time…
BlazBlue Chronophantasma is getting a “version 1.02” update that is planning to be released in March 28. It will feature Unlimited Mars Mode and Survival Mode. Also, the bugs in the game will be fixed.
