hey guys i need your help. I’m admit i’m an 09’er and the only fighting game i’ve ever really gotten into was super/street fighter 4 and i really enjoy it but i feel like i’ve missed out on many other great fighting games. I was wondering if you guys could help me out by recommending a few of the really great older games(aside form 3s, cvs2, mvc2) so i can experience them for myself. i’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
There’s a suspicious lack of internet douche baggery in here… this thread must be new.
Anyway.
Vampire savior
Garou mark of the worves
Last blade and last blade 2
King of fighters 98 and 2002
Fatal fury 2
Rival schools and project justice

DEFINITELY this! But I’d add Guilty Gear XX Accent Core. If you’re looking for something older than that, check out Guilty Gear X or any of its revisions, but Guilty Gear is an incredible fighting game. Not only are the graphics and music really top notch, but the gameplay is solid, fun, and balanced (that last one moreso for the later games.) I’d say the game is kinda like a cross between Marvel and Samurai Shodown, but even that isn’t really doing it justice.
What G-Boobie said along with
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (HD Remix is totally different btw)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 & 3
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
Marvel Super Heroes
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (IIRC it’s considered the black sheep of the old Marvel games, but it’s still pretty solid)
X-Men vs Street Fighter
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Mortal Kombat 2
Maybe a couple of others I’m forgetting off the top of my head. I’ll edit them in later I guess.

to name some
I laugh, but I kinda dig that game.
They made more than one? O_o
The sequel for Eternal Champions was on Sega CD.
For variety, I recommend:
Last Blade 2
Waku Waku 7
King of Fighters 98, 99, 2002 and 2003
Pocket Fighter aka Super Gem Fighter
Samurai Shodown 4 (4 was my favourite, maybe another is “better” though)
Power Instinct Matrimelee
Gundam Wing: Endless Duel
Killer Instinct 2/Gold (for lulz and to hear “ULTRAAAAAAAA!!”)
Marvel Super Heroes (This is basically when Capcom perfected what became “VS” series gameplay)
Vampire Savior/2/Hunter/Chronicle/whatever
Rival Schools (PS1 one is good, DC one is more awesome)
Tech Romancer
Dead or Alive 2/3
Soul Calibur 1/2/4 (I have only played SC3 once)
Bloody Roar (the one on Xbox and GC was pretty sweet)
You really need to play Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo… like now…
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Melty Blood Actress Again
Arcana Heart 3
Super Turbo
fixed.
vampire savior\xvsf helped push the 2d scene into a new direction with fast 2d games which were much different than SF. Its the predecessor to games like BB\GG, AH3, MB. Both of which are free to play on ggpo against human players.
tobal 2 was one of the first true 3d fighting games. I think vf1 was considered a 3d fighter but it didn’t have any 3d movement. Vf2 was still heavily 2d playing field but I think you could roll to the left\right in that game. Tobal 2 is definitely a fan favorite on srk, some of the old school OG’s love the game. Never came out in America BTW, it only saw a release in japan. Pretty easy to get your hands on it though and burn it or run through epsxe on your PC.
kof02 is pretty technical. And it trumps ssf4 easily despite being 8 years older. Tons of movement, good mixups, fast paced, extremely technical, its just a great game overall. I’m terrible @ it so I don’t know tooooo much about it but I enjoy playing it. If the USA scene was bigger, I might actually play it as a tournament game. Hopefully 02um will have ggpo style netcode so the damn game is playable online.
Seriously?
Yeah Tobal 2 was way ahead of its time with the complexity of the throw system alone.
Also, stop hatin’ and start playin’.
i know for fact jeron grayson from NY plays. and cole, a-dhalsim aka hit some buttons cole. One year for EVO, cole was asking ANYONE to play him for money in tobal 2 any amount iirc. I saw the thread quite some time ago lookn for tobal 2 shit. Is it so hard to believe that people like the game? Pretty much every post I’ve read about tobal 2 have been nothing but good things.
Who’s hating?
I’m the last person to hate on a good, unappreciated game.
I shouldn’t be surprised Jeron plays, I hear he plays EX as well.
VF 5 (Latest ver)
Tekken Tag/6
GGXX Accent Core/+
CvS2
Mortal Kombat 2/3
Mark of the Wolves
Samurai Shodown II
Virtua On? Not really a traditional fighting game, but I like it.
A lot of people here aren’t keen to the Smash Bros (SSBM/SSBB) series, but it’s a fun game.

I’m the not the only person who thinks the throw system in tobal 2 is perfect. It would be incredibly hard to do ANY better IMO.
i look at Tobal 2 and just think eww Ehrgeiz… and if the throw system in tobal is anything like it is in ehrgeiz its far from perfect lol
its so clear that you never played tobal in your life…
tobal is a game way ahead for its time, imo is how the 3d fighting games should play
if SE wanted to revive the franchise they only need to make new models for tobal 2, just that, since tobal 2 is that perfect
