BLANKA'S wish list upgrades for ssf4

thanks

forget about the bigger german tournaments! i heard that the german players were BAAAAD!!!
unfortunately the offline or arcade scene in germany isnt big!!!
THERE IS NO SF4 ARCADE STATION IN GERMANY
the only bigger german fighting game forum is hardedge.org

but that doesnt mean that germany hasnt good SF players! playing in tournaments isnt popular in germany…i mean there are big tournaments for counterstrike or FIFA, HALO or COD but fighting games???
but there are a many little private parties were you can find some really good players!

i hope all that does change in the near future and maybe some german players will be known in other countries too!!!

blanka was meant to turtle… CvS2 was a long time ago.

The changes look pretty good.

blankas new ultra will force people to come after him. think about.

they throw fireballs, you sit there and FA backdash them. you build ultra, they can’t throw fire balls anymore. if they do, they eat ultra for about 35% (thats what it looks like from videos).

this forces people to come after you, which will open up offense for blanka. fun.

not sure if anyone knows this yet or not but how long exactly can you hold the buttons down before releasing it to activate blankas new ultra? Is it like say… Denjin where after enough time it will automatically activate even if you are holding the buttons? Are you free to move around and do other things while you are holding the buttons, say like… jump or use a punch normal or something and then still have the move stored and able to be activated upon release?

If you watch the video with where it’s whiffed, it seems like they made it a point to hold it as long as possible, which was about 2 seconds. Also, I’d say you definitely can’t walk around with it. One, there’s a drawn-out animation for when you hold it, and two, that’d be insanely good if you could. Anyhow, the person testing it in the video was TuboWare from this forum, so I’m sure he can confirm any of this.

When you use the AA version of Shout of Earth, you can’t move at all, and it seems like you can hold for about 2-3 seconds and thats it.

i dont understand what holding it does… somebody isnt going to jump when your sitting there shooting lightning everwhere. there must be other properties i dont know of.

Yea, Im just guessing its supposed to be used as a crossup anti air, and thats why you can hold it, so you can time if how ever you feel perfect, instead of hoping that the auto-correct hit the opponent crossing you over. That’s the way it seemed it was supposed to be used.

It could also be useful against shotos that might otherwise try and bait it with an air tatsu that’d screw up your timing. Same with dive kick characters. Although that reminds me, did it seem like the vertical hitbox on it covered everything above you? So in other words, could someone be doing an air tatsu at its utmost height directly above you and it would still hit them?

I don’t see the point of the anti-air one really, Blanka has a million ways to anti-air and with this ultra the chances of the opponent jumping in are even more reduced. Also I really hope they change the input for ultra, reacting to full screen fireballs with 2nd ultra is probably gonna be hard (and the ultra doesn’t look to do much damage).

From what I hear though, elec inputs are 4 buttons now like all the other mashable inputs, so now we don’t all have to be Mullah and can just presumably do LP MP HP HP!

the input for ultras like guiles I and vegas I are actually not that hard to input. Just takes some practice in training mode.

It’s not the input that’s a problem, it’s the fact that it’s a down/back charge move. It’s the same with Vega. Noone in their right mind is going to throw a fireball at your from across the screen if you’ve got Ultra stored and you’re in crouch block. If you’re holding back then it’s fine because you can’t do the Ultra like that.

I’m not even a blanka player, in fact, I hate the character, but what you said seems spot on. I like seeing projectile characters get crashed, so i really hope this rings true for you guys.

Yea Im mad I didnt check that out if it only took 4 inputs to activate electricity, but then again, I didnt have the slightest clue they were going to do that, and since I slide instead of piano, I had no real way of figuring that out on my own.

But yea, I was really dissapointed to have to do the Flash Kick Ultra motion for Shout of Earth. Seemed stupid. Why not the same input at the current ultra? SF3: 3s had no problems with using the same command for different Supers, so I don’t see why it would be a problem in SSF4. It seems like they were changing the commands for different Ultras just to be different.

Pretty much the harder the motion is for a move, the less time you have to react to stuff quickly with it. With the damage as weak as it looks I don’t see how the motion for Blanka’s 2nd ultra is warranted… Especially when you have shit like Bison’s Ultra 2 so easy to do.

I dont think the motion is that difficult honestly.

I cant say anything regarding damage cuz I only saw like one quick clip of the ultra

Regarding the charging down back thing… you could always do it when you are close to the opponent after a backwards hop if they try to jump in on you. Its way more obvious you are charging for it if you are just sitting on down-back but if they see they hop, they might mess up and try to jump and you can just bust out the ultra as soon as you land from it. Just a thought though.

Glad to hear about the reduced input requirements for electricity though

You have a good point, backhop > Ultra 2 might actually be viable.

I’m also wondering if you can do ground Ultra 2 after hitting with elec, since elec puts the opponent in juggle state. Maybe you’d have to FADC the elec though?

if there is a way to elec > AG Ultra 2, then i would no longer mind the awkward input for the Ultra.

back-hop > AA Ultra2 sounds like fun, and safe.

According to the rumors, SSF4 supposed to have both ultras available at once. That’s why they had different inputs. But sometime after that rumor was made, they decided to have the player select an ultra and they didn’t changed the input since then.

I had a dream that Sagat’s Tiger Cannon ultra can punish a blocked regular horizontal Blanka ball. Or rather I should say nightmare. Hope Capcom isn’t retarded by letting this come to fruition!
