Anyone know anything or have used this HDMI video capture card? It seems to have a HDMI input and output so I guess it would be great for recording matches from a 360 or ps3. Not a bad price either at $250.
I hear it’s good for new gen stuff. Not good if you wanna do 480p. I think it does 480i oddly enough. You’ll need a raid0 array and a quadcore to run hdmi im guessing
For now, I wouldn’t buy it, it takes way to much systems resources to run it. When the next cards come out, you should be in better shape, as they will have alot more of the encoding done on the actual hardware, and not need such steep specs.
If you can afford it though, and couple this with a super beefy pc, I hear its a good card.
I am in the same boat, I would love to record off my HDMI 1080p signal, but right now its not worth it. Also will takes alot of gigabytes on caching, and actual file size.
You looking at a pro or just the intensity? The intensity will record 360 but with no sound, and it will not record ps3 at all. The pro however has that analogue port and a nice cable to plug other inputs into it and will do 360 and ps3 with sound. Don’t get the intensity, get the pro
I made have the intensity regular version and it was a waste of 200 dollars -_-
but you wont be able to capture at 60fps. Apart from that it’s a better/cheaper/more convenient alternative to a capture card inside a PC for 720p footage.
The price of the HD PVR is the same as the basic Intensity model (the one without analog inputs) and it doesn’t support HDMI, which is the whole selling point of the Intensity.
Assuming you are going to capture 720p@30fps video using OJPEG or another of the supported formats, you shouldn’t even need an array or raptors according to this guy:
And even then, mounting a RAID 0 with a pair of decent 1 GiB drives is cheap and easy.
Maybe I’ll get one some day if I find some real use for it
I have searched for a long time for the best and most economical way to record games on PS3. It can be done by purchasing the Blackmagic card but it is a bit pricey AND you will need the version that can do the component cable inputs because HDMI will not allow you to record copyrighted material. YOUR games are copyrighted! This is the only way I know to record in true HD quality that passes the signal thru to your TV, so you can play in HD and record in HD.
Here’s a good alternative, and it’s cheaper and records in pretty good SD quality. I just set this up this weekend to record my Resistance 2 games and Tekken DR, and it works like a charm.
HAVA Titanium HD Wireless = 149.99 at Amazon, even less for the wired Ethernet version that will not include the wireless USB dongle.
Features:
Wireless so I don’t need the PC near the TV.
Uses component inputs with pass-trough, so I can play in HD while recording in SD. Even though it’s in SD…the video quality is pretty good.
NOTE: You will need some adapters or a video selector switch box for your componet cables from the PS3 or 360 because the HAVA titanium unit uses component cable to miniplugs!!!
Versatile, you can use it eventually for a remote cable viewer like it was meant to be used.
Following videos about the HAVA setup which led me to my setup (he used a HAVA wireless HD, I used a HAVA titanium HD wireless) I would’ve bought a HAVA wireless HD, but Amazon did not have them and the HAVA site is much more expensive than Amazon. You can attach a external hard drive to the Titanium and use that to store videos on.
razz, hdmi won’t work, you’ll need component because of the copy protection. Also if you need 60fps for some games (fighting mainly) deinterlacing to 60fps won’t work on the supplied codecs. Of course this is all taking into account the cost of the pc (unless the user has a suitable one already) and purchasing decent drives for a raid vs a standalone product.
So the intensity will not capture using the HDMI on a 360 period? And its doesn’t capture audio through the HDMI input? Well, sounds like a big loser to me…
yeah for the intensity pro you need a good raid, enough ram at least 2 gigs, a good dual core processor nd what most dont mention is that you should have a motherboard that will support sata at 3.0gbps. I am putting together another black magic rig for HD capture now.
No, I have one and the answer is no. I do not understand why but it is. 360 gets video only, and just so you know it kills your harddrive space. I have a 7 min vind of me playing and its 2.88 gigs
Tried it and the Intensity Pro will not capture Audio via the HDMI with the 360… And you are correct…you can’t use the HMDI and AV connector port at the same time on the 360. I tried it and it fails… Hence making this product useless for our intended purposes… The Haugpaage PVR seems like a better option until some comes out with a useful HDMI. The Analog inputs on the intesity pro seem to work well, but that defeats the point of buying this thing.
