Black Lightning - The TV series

Bill Duke seems to be protecting the Pierce family in his own twisted way, he killed everyone who knew their secret and hasn’t exposed the family yet. What purpose he actually has, good or bad remains to be seen

I agree about Todd. Killing him felt like a waste. I enjoyed how smug he was.

He could be protecting them from the Markovians who did try to kidnap Lynn and Jennifer’s therapist.

Part of me feels Bill Duke might be one of the baddies for next season. Also, I hope Lady Eve gets resurrected.

The guy who resurrects Lala need to have subtitles. I can barely make out what he says.

Jennifer gonna be the one to tell Bill Duke he dun fucked up come next season.

It felt good watching Lynn beat the shit out of Jace.

Lynn was in “FTB” mode! I also liked when Lala rolled up and shot Heatstroke, went over to BL, said his peace, and then said your partner is in trouble.

I got to catch the finale!!

Nobody watchin this anymore? That namedrop in the finale…well he exists in this world too

EDIT: That reveal at the end…

Im cool with it, as long as they dont try to merge it with the Arrowverse in the aftermath. BL seems to escape most of the “corniness” associated with most CW superhero shows

Depending how the ratings are last season they may need it. I feel like it didn’t do so well last yr

Put up that season 3…

I just watched S2 on Netflix this last week. (Late I know but my TV was dead the whole summer among other stuff)

Pros:

Jennifer was my favorite character this season. I liked her hero’s journey , and am glad she was never super annoying or entitled like Trish in Jessica Jones. I liked her costume at the end.

The Grace/Anissa subplot

Khalil’s character development and his MK moment.

Lala’s return and the episode with him and Jeff in the classroom

Tobias’ casual racism is funny. Take a shot every time he refers to black folks as “thick lipped” and you’ll have cirrhosis lol

Music selection especially use of classic songs

The handrawn title cards. I feel like I havent seen that in a superhero show since Batman TAS.

Neutral:
The white folks with powers felt like a Jordan Peele horror movie. I’ll give them props for trying something different.

Cons:

Early in the season some of the Lynn and pod kids scenes seemed a bit slow.

I wish Todd the tech guy stuck around longer as well as teleporting black guy.

The “Death of Gambi” early on was anti -climactic.

Overall: 8.5/10

Im kinda glad this show is mostly independent from the CW DC shows as the bad writing and cheesiness seems to be minimized.
