Black Johnny Storm In Fantastic Four Reboot?

There are only a select few heroes who I’d argue really need to be a particular race, and a slightly bigger number who really need to be a particular gender.

Johnny Storm is NOT one of those heroes. Cast a hot black chick as herm.

 LOL @ “Herm”

-Starhammer-

Lemme guess…Luke Cage, Black Panther…?

if The Thing is black, could we just call him The Thang?

Why not, it worked in Blazing Saddles.

“It’s Unrealistic!”

while I was joking, I’d love to hear your reasoning behind why Luke Cage couldn’t be white. Should be interestingly non-racist, I’m assuming…

lol you got nothing

Luke Cage can’t be white, because his skin is impervious and white people’s skin is soft.

Because having a white person play a blaxplotation hero would be akin to blackface. Bad enough the super Kung-fu guy that everyone knows about in Marvel is some fake ass David Carridine motherfucker and not Shang Chi.

Sure feel free, post in the Marvel thread if you want.

I have like no opinion on this subject until I see the movie. I just hope they get Doctor Doom right and if Galactus shows up he’s not a fucking cloud. And oh I dunno maybe a Reed and Sue that have actual onscreen chemistry? Whoever plays Human Torch is like the least of my worries really.

Almost every black character is a either a blaxpoitation character, or a hero to black people. Black characters are generally designed using archtypes and stereotypes. How hard would it be have Black Panther be a white guy from South Africa who is against racism? Or Luke Cage being an underpriveledged white guy from the hood? How are these changes any different than suddenly making a brother and sister two different races, and then saying one is adopted just to explain this race change? Black people are 100% for making any white character black, yet will find any excuse under the sun once black characters get brought up.

RockyB, which black characters did you name out of curiousity? And to flip it a little, which major white characters can you see as never being black?

What the fuck are you talking about lol. Stay in your lane you old country ass cracka. I keep forgetting your ass is a bit racist what with consistently making threads like this. There are hardly any non white heroes to begin with but you somehow think its lol reverse racist to not make the ones black into white people. Really showing your ass right now.

Falcon is the first that comes to mind. Rhodey/War Machine is another. Race is inconsequential to those two.

The sad part is I couldn’t even think of any black hero off the top of my head to even race switch.

That shit should only really matter with the big iconic characters imo. I wouldn’t really want to see Peter Parker all of a sudden be a black guy, but making a new character into a Spider-man is a totally non-issue to me. I guess what I am saying is the alter ego and the hero are two different entities to me in that regards.

SoViet must rage at Cloak and dagger lol.

My boy Wallace, head full of smarts man. Coulda went to Harvard… smh

Personally, I don’t really care, but a black Johnny Storm doesn’t seem to have any defining plot point to warrant a change imo. Doesn’t mean that it’ll detract from the character though.

Ultimate Spiderman could be white.

So could Batwing. Also Green Lantern from JLU and really, so could Storm. Just make her from Massachusetts and she can be a white weather witch just like those silly Africans thought she was.

Take it or leave it. It gets solid -> good reviews, there are aspects of it that I liked.

The progression of the story and the camera work irritated me. The camera was a cool effect at first and became a ‘gimmick’ later.

Being black is not an inherent part of Johnny Storm’s character. I’d say more important is the fact that he’s a brash womanizing showboat, Sue Storm’s brother, and Ben’s adversary pal. If they manage to get those latter three things right, then his skin colour won’t matter, and he will be more Human Torch than Chris Evans was.

Mainly because Evans was stuck with Jessica Alba as his onscreen sister to build chemistry with. Alba has no chemistry with anyone, because she is a terrible actress.

But in the end, it’s a visual medium, and so it’s just as legitimate to complain about a character’s skin colour as it is to complain about a character’s costume or how their powers look onscreen. Which are both still minor issues as long as the more important things are looked after.

Oh and also, WHERE’S THE BOY STRING?

That is actually the biggest argument I have for not casting this guy…he will never be Johnny Storm to me, just Wallace. It will be way too distracting.
