Unless VT EX Bullhead has a different buffer window compared to VT MP Bullhead (afaik they’re the same), then the only other answer is that you did a negative edge with the strong button.
In other words, you did LP+MP too early and triggered MP Version by releasing that button right after at the right time.
Just chiming in to say I’ve had that happen a lot in neutral for me, trying to release for an EX Bullhorn and getting a normal one instead.
Dunno if EX Bullhorn has more charge time? Or needs a perfect LP+HP release to get the EX, whereby LP a frame or two early causes LP Bullhorn instead?
Wouldn’t be surprised if there was something else borked along for Bullhorn with the reversal window.

Pretty rad. But the second can looses it’s hitbox. Super neat though.
I don’t think so. At 0:54 it loses against a fucking stupid normal, just because it’s 2-hits
- it loses against throws
- it loses against multiple hits
- it gets the grey damage which is too slow to recover
