Birdie Q&A Thread: Ask All Your Questions Here

Does birdie have any decent wakeups? The only one i found that is ok is killing head.

EXBullHorn or EX-Killing head

first is armored and projectile invincible and 2nd is throw invincible and yes that’s not good^^

Thanks man. How do i get bull horn as a wu? The timing is weird or im just not used to the kd system yet. Even trying to record it i cant get it to come out

Piano it; You can hold 6 Buttons and release allways 2

Somebody should make a video to show the distance between far and short ex bullrevenger and standing vs crouching? I honestly lost to many matches to a bad grab too short or im behind them.

Is there anything i can confirm off of an aa c.mp? Ive been aa like a monster but when they land sometimes i get dp or grabbed out if my s.lk

After aa cr.mp I go for meaty command grab or meaty s.hk. You’ll likely get a crush counter if your opponent presses buttons with the latter.

Ooo ok cool. Thanks man

simply block sometimes… its more like a reset

If he’s fighting against a character with no reversal like Nash and Sim he should go all in.

The good thing about meaty sHK after a cMP AA is that you can still confirm if it’s blocked or not.
If it’s blocked (+1~2 on block) u have the option to stuff your opponent with command throw or lights, depending how far and meaty it was.

I have the tendency to go for command throw if sHK was blocked close and overhead if sHK is blocked from a distance.

  1. He does have armored moves from frame 1

  2. He has 1050 health, he can afford one bad read, just like Ken and Ryu can afford one bad read in this game.

  3. Birdies pokes are amazing, I got some sage advice for you though; when someone gets in, block. Pushback is real and they’ll eventually be out naturally, if they walk forward you got yourself a punish because they’re more than likely overextending in this game.

guys one noob question… how do I quick rise with ex bull horn ? if I press buttons for a 2 sec and release …nothing happens?

Congratulations! it does not benefit from the reverse window like everything else in the game, you just have to do it when you are actually up from frame 1 onwards, never before like everyone else.

So just a few random dumb questions. I’ve been stuck right at 1000 points for about a week now, constantly ranking up and down in a nauseating circle. I’m just getting eaten alive by characters with a decent DP (Ryu), Projectile game (Ryu) and jump ins (Ryu). I’m not having issues against characters like Mika, Sim, Vega and Bison thanks to Birdies heavy pressure game once you get that hit in, but stupid day one stuff (Once again, Ryu in particular) is killing me. I’m new to SF (I’m a Blazblue/ Guilty Gear player) so some of my struggles is just not being used to this games fireball pressure. But still, whats some advice? I’m always hearing so much about Birdies godlike anti-airs, but I’m just not getting them to work as well. any videos of how they look?

Anti-airs in this game are situational. There isn’t an one button answer that will beat everything coming at you. Birdie’s anti-airs are HK Hanging Chain, cr.hp, cr.mp and f.hk. Use cr.hp to beat far jump-ins. Cr.mp will beat close jump-ins and crossups. F.hk is as quick as cr.mp and the first hit is capable of beating close jump-in. Hanging chain is only good if create a situation that forces your opponent to jump and do the move preemptively. I like using it when the opponent uses it coming and jumps thinking it’s the regular one. You can also anti-air using the armor on f.HP but I don’t recommend it.

I’m at a wall with birdie in this game :s I can barely crack 2000Lp, is learning frame data a necessary tool to learn.

Ok so its different

Your silly. Of course it is. Espcially up close where birdie fastest poke is lk and clk and going against a character with a 3 frame jab your not going to win it up close all the time

I need a lot of help. I cannot win with Birdie. I have read all the frame data, and I read all these suggestions. Everything gets countered or crush countered. Nothing works.

I struggle on approach towards my opponent. I try the can, but opponent simply attacks while I try to do it from full screen. I cant use the jumping chain, half circle back +kick move, because people just easily jab me out of the air. I cant walk up because people attack too fast. What do I do to close the gap?

I have no idea what to do on wake up. As far as I know, Birdie has no invincible reversals to get out of the corner with a character literally standing on top of you.

How do I deal with a runaway character?

How do I deal with a character that is +4 on all basic normals like Karin?

Why does everything crush counter standing MK or MP? I think there is push back in this game, but I don’t see it. I get punished for V reversal as well.

These are just the basic problems. I really don’t know where to go with this game. Not a single character fits a true zoning style of game play that I prefer. I thought Birdie might be the closest, but so far I am wrong. I manage to get to about 2200 LP, but I am currently with 1400 LP, I lose 6 games, then barely win 1.

I have watched a lot of videos of Birdie and I still don’t understand what I am doing wrong. I have basic combos down and everything. I am not a noob, I know how to play on paper, but I cannot play myself. Nothing works. The shoulder charge, the bull dive, all my wake ups I get thrown out of.

I am probably a lost cause and I am sure there will be a lot of laughter at this post, I don’t care. I hate myself for playing fighting games but I hate myself for not playing them otherwise. Its a vicious cycle, with no end in sight. I can beat almost anyone who is less than 1500 but I cannot beat anyone who is over 1800. It sucks and it is embarrassing.

I really want to be decent at this game. I felt pretty good in SFIV, I understand this is a different game and zoning is a dead game play style but I still like the game I just don’t know how to approach this stuff with Birdie. Any help is appreciated. Any ridicule, is expected.

Birdie’s a whole lotta fun. I’m having trouble with what SEEMS like a big part of his execution

Think its time for you to stop playing or switch characters.
