Can I have your Capcom ID? So I can view your games, because its not working for me. The range is ridiculously short, no Ryu I face ever throw fireballs at that short range, where I can just click st. MK. [/quote]
I agree. I was abusing this in week 1 after seeing a birdie in one of the beta tournaments doing well with it but it’s not working now. Ryu’s have all stopped using fireballs this close. Close range fireballs seem much easier to punish in V than before so players seem to be hesitant to throw them in that range.
You always block by pressing away (back) from your opponent’s position.
This counts for all teleports + projectile mixups. (nash boom + teleport, dhalsim ex fireball + teleport, birdie crossing up w can out, fang ex dash with poison balls, ibuki kunais in sf4, … )
Yeah, most of those make sense because they come from the front. But in my case I lost to a Rashid who threw the tornado in front of me, and then jumped to the other side, and the tornado slowly caught up with me. It just made sense to hold forward to try to block it
It IS good to know that you only really have to concern yourself with where your opponent is for stuff like Sim and Nash’s teleports.
Also from the general matchups thread, regarding Nash: His EX Moonsault is an easy out if you need to get him off of you and you have V-meter, since you just V-reversal sneeze him away on his second kick. Which is good, 'cause Nash can make you guess more after he’s used that to get in.
Stupid Lauras. I’m getting better at punishing various enders and pokes, but it still feels like they can ride one knockdown to victory, so there’s so much YOLO.
Yeah basically just try to keep laura at the range of your boot in st.mk. One thing that always helps to keep in mind that the overhead she has is only 0 on hit, so feel free to go at her right away after it connects.
Your best tool against Laura is EX SPD. It is grab invincible so it can grab them out of their mixup when they throw the fireball to cover so you can’t neutral jump out.
Stand jab fucks Laura up. It’s your best button against her in neutral.
Against Laura and Mika you need to make the hard reads. Block the hits, EX grab or neutral jump the SPD’s, ex grab the throws.
Also, with Laura, try and keep a charge so you can headbutt through the projectiles.
For Mika just be patient and don’t break. Its not quite like Laura where laura can stand her ground against birdie and challenge a lot of his normals, Mika basically can’t do a goddamn thing against Birdie in neutral, her only way in his being reckless. Laura is the much harder of the two matches in my opinion.
I just block Bison all day because he can’t really do shit. If Bison’s supposed to be an offensive wall, Birdie is a defensive wall. The only time I’m actually scared of Bison is when he has V Trigger up and that fear is still only a 6/10. That being said, you can probably armor through most of his frame traps with forward H, but I haven’t tried. Ex bullhorn definitely works on super predictable Bisons and love to hit buttons (i.e. all of them).
Well first two layers of it are 1) if he is in range for that, you are in range for st.fp, and move move is faster than his by about 2 frames. 2) A lot of fighting Bison (at least in my opinion) comes from you being judicial on your neutral jump. Neutral jump-> land -> whatever on bison beats df+hp, dash ins, scissors, and he basically isn’t in any real position to do anything about it if hes still out.
Now failing that and it comes out and you block it, I believe its only +1 so at that point either you accept blocking because of your 4 frame moves, or break the shackles of fate and fish with f+hp because the armour starts up on frame 3 and you can get an easy CH with it if he is being buttonsy.
Yea i actually thought it was unsafe and I was trying to mash through it and getting punished I was playing the rank 16 guy and he just demolished me and all he was doing was his down forward fierce. I started working on trying to come up with ways to beat it…this was like the first time I ever got like destroyed by a bison like that.
Nothing wrong with just blocking and using delay tech to beat Bison. Bison needs you to push buttons to make his frame traps work. It’s bad news if he starts stacking the white life because he can make his throws hurt, but his mixup is predictable and reactable to outside of V-Trigger.
F3 Alucard checking Chex Quest’s Nash CA with a banana and combing into his own CA. LOL. I was watching a bit of the stream last night, some solid Birdie play from Alucard all round, though he switched to Necali whenever the going got tough.
Vs Rashids V Trigger tornado, ex chain can still grab him. The first time I tried this out looked like the chain was gone, then Rashid walked into the tornado and my chain grabbed him anyway. The next time vs another Rashid I just did ex chain after he activated, he tried to ex eagle kick through the tornado (fairly common tactic) and the chain grabbed him.
I’m 2/2 with it right now. I’m sure they will get hip to it, but it’s at least a way to keep them honest.
Oh yeah, the tornado doesn’t do anything in particular to Rashid’s invincibility frames and such AFAIK. As long as you don’t stick any hurtboxes into it, you can do whatever.
I’d be careful about chaining in the middle of a tornado, though, since Rashid can get over to you incredibly fast. If he just does a forward jump outside of EX Chain range, he’s punishing that chain in a heartbeat.
If you see him walking into EX Chain range through the tornado, though, sounds like it’s worth a shot. Though I dunno if he can punish a blocked max range EX Chain while tornado-boosted? He can get to you REALLY fast, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
yea ex chain pretty much destroys his gameplan…plus when you hit it most of the time tornado will be near you so you can block the thing before he uses it again
Played a good, patient Necalli just now, and that dude can punish a lot of stuff once he’s got meter and V-juice. He CA-punished chain from near max range, he went into V-trigger and punished the DF-HP slide at what usually feels like a safe range.
Any thoughts on the matchups? He was relying a bit on jumpins to get in, so I know I should bait’em with lights and antiair. But outside of that, he had answers for a lot of the stuff I tried.
