i think they are trying to make birdie a footsie oriented character in a game without reactions. but anyway have a reversal option and a decent anti air is good.
the nerf of ex bullhead is bad but a lot of characters cannot punish it if they don’t nerf the distance, i hope birdie becomes better in this season.
The initial design concept for Birdie is that he is supposed to be quite powerful in neutral, which he deviated away from in Season 2.
**(We don’t like this character preforming good offensively and like him to rather be a character that has slow limbs with a lot of risk who gets bodied after one knockdown)
**
The changes made to Birdie in Season 2 left him in a slightly less optimal place in both his neutral and defense game, but much stronger place in the offensive game.
**(Offensive pressure being the way people win matches overall we cant let this character get away getting close to being in the same tier as Laura, Balrog and the brother of a god Urien Respectively) **
Although the adjustments made were beneficial in their own right, his core design is still that of a strong neutral character. To bring him more in line with that vision, we’ve reverted some changes, allowing Birdie to establish and compete at neutral a bit better.
**(like i said, We dont want this character to be tournament viable)
**
Remember that ex bullhead was -10 and -7 (VT). So being -5 now is a little better than it was in s1. If I am not wrong, some characters cant punish it and others can punish it only using meter or CA. But I wouldnt say Birdie is absolutely free on wake up. Ex bullhorn will work like it did in S1, if not better because of the throw loop nerf of most characters.
It’s almost as if they don’t know how to fit Birdie in this game. Buffing his neutral in a game where the neutral game is almost non existent, doesn’t make sense.
what?
ex tackle is -2 now and it doesnt have armor like ex bullhead
not the same
ex bullhead being -2 was too good in VT
armor on 1f of ex bullhorn makes him less free on wakeup than he was with -2 ex bullhorn and ex bullhorn only had armor in VT
ex bullhorn has armor VT or not
with upcoming buffs/nerfs, he’s actually better S2.5 than S2
making ex bullhead -5 doesnt change much
just less braindead
No idea why people think he’s worse
He is better now
ex bullhorn with 1f armor indirectly/passively reduces the opposing offense/pressure as well
it’ll work even in the tightest of frame traps
He isn’t better after this next patch. He is worse. Firstly, ex bullhead only gets armor in v-trigger. More than likely, Birdie will be in v-trigger at the END of a match so its not as if you can just spam a safe armored move ALL round long. It takes certain conditions for Birdie to be able to exploit that move to its fullest (meter and in v-trigger). Urien’s ex tackle on the other hand has the ability to have armor on it if he uses v-skill with it. Regardless, its a spammable safe on block move on an already stupidly strong character. Uriens tackle is faster on start up, safer on block and can be used as such at any point in the round as long as he has meter. Urien gets to keep his cheap shit while Birdie loses out on a safe gap closing move that was only OP when hes in v-trigger.
The revert buff to EX bull horn doesn’t out weigh what they did to bullhead. Now, Birdie has to sacrifice two buttons (And I mean, really, which Birdie player doesn’t like to use ALL his buttons?) to pop off an ex-bullhorn assuming he doesn’t get thrown out of it on wake up, or guesses wrong and is punished heavily for it. Atleast when ex-bullhead was -2, Birdie lost his turn so it was fair.
Birdie usually gets VT by the time he loses 40% health
and you’re really gonna use urien vskill as your counter argument? that thing is like -30 + the startup of tackle whereas birdie can just use it whenever
I like how you say birdie is free on wakeup now using ex bullhead as the base of that statement when it has armor on 3f ONLY IN VT compared to ex bullhorn that has armor on 1f VT/non-VT
How does that even make sense
Also
It doesnt take long to charge ex bullhorn
You can start it right when you start blocking a frame trap or a normal
You dont have to charge it ALL game
He is definitely going to be better than he is now 100%
you’re talking about being able to ex bullhorn in between 2 JABS and VTC to convert into 300 damage
I am aware. The point of bringing it up is to show it takes a certain condition in the game (usually towards the latter portion of the round) for Birdie to be able to FULLY (Pay attention to the previous word) exploit ex. bullhead.
As one of my counter points, yeah. Your implication that Birdies ex-bullhead getting nerfed was because it has armor while Uriens doesn’t is wrong. Just like Birdie, if Urien meets a certain condition, it also has armor…Only he doesn’t need to have 40% of his health gone to exploit it. Advantage Urien.
Do you believe that you have enough time to charge between 2 JABS to punish a characters pressure on Birdie?
i agree with you, urien is too good (i also pick urien like my secondary in some match ups) but if you compare the future birdie with the actual birdie, the patch changes give us a better chance. back then when the s2 changes come out, i didn’t care about the anti air and ex bull horn nerf, but now i think having a decent wake option is bless specially in some match ups like laura or cammy you are free on wake up against a good meaty.
Look I understand why they gave him his old bullhorn back. They had to after nerfing ex bullhead. I just don’t think it makes him better for the switch. Birdie went from being a monster in v trigger to just…Okay on paper.
Slide back to season 1.
EX bullhead stays season 2.
Bullhorn becomes season 2.5.
Crouching mp is season 1 tier.
standing lk and crouching become 3 frames.
