Fuk the bandwagon. I said Spencer was gonna be tops easy before this. But I knew someone was gonnna bring out the beast in him. Dude just has powerful and simple options for big damage. My homeboy said Spencer was gonna be a shitty character. Today BionicFiend showed him wrong.
combofiend vs marn third game

lol you posting that everywhere aren’t you? Hype match though, that had to be the craziest 3-0 I have ever seen, combo came back in every match with just spencer.
lol i know i know a little overkill. i’m new to the marvel scene and didn’t understand the hype surrounding marvel until i saw this tonight!
Combofiend blowing that shit up, niiice
Being a long time Captain Falcon main and watching that stream made me get the chills watching Marn get molested.
Bionic Arm > Falcon Punch
Marn should pick up hulk.
That forever lonely walk of shame never to be seen again

ive been using spencer on and off and have been having a hard time getting in to combo…does he have anything for basic preasure or is it s and h all day till you hit confirm?
Unless you are fighting a camper your pressure spencer is basically revolving around high low mix ups, for instance the generaic string spencers try is air attack l,m,h,f+h, armor piercer. You can easily mix things up to mess with people for instance, air attack ,f+h, armor piercer since your opponent will go to block the low attack after aerial. If you are playing a camper command grabs and ambigious air attacks do fine against them. For the most part if you are pressuring you look for overhead and crouching low mix ups and if they like to advacne gaurd use empty attacks etc.
This is all assuming no assist, for instance calling a projectile assist jump zip above them so they don’t know which direction to block is a good approach/mix-up. Realize he can also be rather patienttiger kneed grappler hooks or hooks covered by assist are pretty safe against alot of characters from mid to full screen distance apart.
itt people think theyre special because they were picking a character before they got popular even though theyve achieved absolutely nothing with them

Big talk from someone without a gamertag or location listed.
More on topic: I’d been using Spencer as my point character instead of anchor – Final Round might have me using him as last char instead of trying to use X-23’s high speed bonus (and infinites) under x-factor. Really impressive stuff!
Yeah, Spencer had always been my point…but…damn you Combofiend!
I usually start him on point, but Combofriend has made me consider switching my team around and messing with Spencer as anchor. My team atm is Spencer/Wesker/IronMan, so I guess I could try Wesker/IronMan/Spencer. Thing is I wouldn’t have the big DHC damage and glitches early like I want… But the comeback factor is so much higher. Damn.
In the combo thread, we’ve been talking about Spencer in the second slot. In that spot, you can still Aerial Exchange into him for the DHC glitch combos using better point characters. It’s very easy with Wesker, for instance. Instant kills for 2 meters and any AeX (the combos build the meter, too).
Once Wesker is down, you still have Spencer on point, most likely capable of one-hit KO’s depending on your third.
I also don’t think shooting for X-Factor level 3 should be a big focus for Spencer teams. I think we’ll get a lot more out of a XFC’ing a Bionic Lancer that hits their main + assist. It’s easy to get these and should turn into two dead characters.
itt a big nothing nobody gets salty as hell cause people like a character that won a major lmao run back under your rock
I hate to dickride Combofiend too much but I’m gonna be looking at learning Taskmaster and putting another character on point instead of Spencer. My team’s ass right now and I haven’t had the time to put any practice into getting better. From my experience Spencer on point is too dangerous cause he doesn’t take hits too well and people typically put their best/most damaging characters on point. Liking the idea of Spencer as anchor. If you like him/have a lot of practice under your belt with him imo you’re throwing him away too early if you put Spencer on point.
Having some meter built up for him is important. You need the threat of Bionic Lancer to force your opponent to keep assists to a minimum since that super is his main way to punish them.
I don’t know if he’s a good anchor though. He struggles to get in or do mix-ups without having an assist to help him get started. He does get a nice damage boost from X-Factor, but only a small speed boost. That makes him hard to play against some of the other anchors that are nuts with level 3 X Factor.
Spencer’s two best things are huge damage combos through the DHC glitch, and Bionic Lancer punishing people (and their assists too) for unsafe stuff. You miss out on the DHC combos if he’s last. Combofiend was often tagging or DHC’ing him in while the other two were recovering red life - there were only a few epic upset moments where Combo’s solo Spencer kicked ass (and even then, largely because he had meter to throw Bionic Lancers).
I think he’s strongest in that second slot, okay on point, and weakest alone. I’d like to hear Combo’s take on it and why he had Spencer in that third slot on his team (other than how well his DHC’s worked together).
I think he had spencer in third slot because taskmaster assist works well with she-hulk and spencer’s armor piercer assist works well with taskmaster for extra nasty combo’s. Not to mention that taskmaster lets you DHC into or out of basically any other super making him a great second character.
Another possible reason is that alot of the common assist characters that people are using, doom/sent/haggar/tron are actually pretty good matchups for spencer. The only two assist chars I would be afraid of 1v1 in xfactor battles would be chun li and morrigan, there are other characters to but they generally aren’t the third assist char.
Now that you bring that up it seems like a good idea. Wesker builds a lot of meter imo so I think it works well, all I need to get down is Maximum Wesker DHC into Bionic Arm or Maneuvers. I’ll try Wesker/Spencer/IronMan till I can find a better anchor or get another order.
Combofiend’s team was well-equipped to deal with the common characters encountered so far. I suspect that he kept Spencer as anchor because 1) people did not know the matchup, 2) XF3 damage on top of not knowing the matchup = profit++. As you mentioned it also helps that other team anchors weren’t fast pixies who could lay waste to Spencer’s relatively slow game. Good observation.
I’d been using him on point with Taskmaster second and Hulk as my anchor. Recently switched out Hulk for Doom. Still run a Hulk team, but Spencer/Task/Hulk and now Doom has always been my anti-Sent and beam hyper team. Been working well, Spencer hits hard without meter and the threat or Bionic Arm kept fools from spamming basically anything.
Not going to lie I’m now toying with Spencer as my anchor, I will probably keep him on point though. Zip lining in with Task arrows/Doom rocks works so well. Will probably DHC him out for anchor status after I try to get some early damage with him on point.
