Biggest 3S Event of the Year: Clash of the Titans at TFC, Raleigh, NC

Tony Majors is a fella from NC who maintains Japanese cabinets as a hobby. He provides a ton of cabs for any convention that would be interested in it. He’s got a partnership with Big Eric to provide those cabs for all of Eric’s events.

TITS is This Is Third Strike!, Nica KO and Mutant XP’s collaborative efforts to bring back growth to the community by streaming/running events.

Gotta admit I can’t keep track of all these acronyms either.

I’m definitely a tit guy though.

tits vs assmen
evo hooters 2016
Winner gets titan designation?

I’m like damn october huh? That’s a lot of months of people complaining still ahead of us

Generally a titsman myself. Shoutouts to manny, mommy, ryan, black robert, and ass

EDIT: Be real though this is heavy shit to lay down.

@exodus “challenge me for it” does that require a $100 deposit or was that a gentleman’s offer? I know you play dudley so I was thinking it was a freebie  powerful statement nonetheless…powerful +1

@tits and ass, You can’t be both? Too greedy? Both can be over the top though…maybe that makes me a neither guy. I can’t deal with hitomi tanaka sized tits. And those butt injections look god awful.

@jblair it’s as close to an objectively true statement as opinion can get. Again, easy way to fit their narrative, but 100% ego aside, no one unbiased would agree with what they said there.

@djdjw I was more saying that as an answer to the protest of my spot. It’s been over a month and the challenge clause has always been there, but hasn’t been used by anyone. If people really feel that strongly about it, then it’s available. But it’s actually not the case anymore, because the rules are going to be updated again.

Don’t get me wrong since there’s all the other stuff it’s all good.
It’s that the whole ‘special event’ just smells bad and gives a shitty impression.

I think it could be more fun and more about community.
As it is the event sounds like the exo show starring exodus.

@Tebbo The objective was to distinguish TFC from previous 3S tournaments, in a way that would draw in as many 3S scenes as I can. American 3S has been dormant for too long, and I really wanted to bring people together to play again. This was the best answer I could come up with. The “Clash of the Titans” is just a showy American label to the event. If you genuinely take issue to me using high level players of renown to draw in viewership and hype, then I concede that that was my exact intention. And again, maybe I’m out of touch and this isn’t what the community as a whole prefers. But if you’re really championing fun and community, the best way to do that is to embrace the event and come out to support it. It’s all trial and error, and no one has the absolute correct answer. If the Titans event isn’t well received this year, then we will all reassess and do something different next time. The important part is that we do what we can to keep 3S alive and running…right?

I can’t imagine why people would look at everything I’ve been doing to get this up and running and go “This nigga is selfish.”

You like to run in circles when talking and I don’t really want to keep going.
I don’t need the last word, but I also don’t like leaving you hanging if you keep asking questions.

Selfish and having a big ego aren’t the same thing.
You can do good things and still be a bit of a douche.

There isn’t a real ‘whole’ community imo.
There are two touchstones which themselves are their own communities. GGPO, SRK. Both of which are missing the majority of players.

It’s disingenuous to say the game is dormant and we need to keep it alive when you have a community like NYC doing what they’re doing.
The game is alive and exciting, just not on a national (continental?) scale.

I think you would have been better off letting people nominate or vote for competitors.
I would focus on getting people to want to represent their local community.
What I think you’ve done is instead create some resentment and skepticism. It looks bad for the host/creator to be a competitor. It looks bad when that same host is also choosing the other competitors.
You basically gave 'bye’s to people you think should have them. No one knows who actually deserves them.

That kind of covers why I think it’s shitty. The ‘showmanship’ also comes off as shitty and childish to me but apparently everyone here loves wrestling and that kind of garbage.

All of that said I will of course try to tune in to support the players and your effort. I respect your ability and desire to do something even if I disagree with the methods.

Nigga stfu

When I speak about American 3S, I mean it as a whole. It’s not disingenuous at all to say that the American scene is dormant. There was a time when people from across the nation flew in to compete at EVO specifically for 3S. I’d like to work to get back to that era, even if it ends in futility. I’ve been with New York every step of the way, but I’m not content with just New York. Or just UFO. or just Boiler Room. Hotspots are hotspots, and I’m looking to get them playing together again. And that’s exactly why I’ll sound like a broken record, going in circles…I’m very invested in this cause. If you have gripes, I am trying to address them and rationalize my decision making to you.

Polling people would have had worse results. I would rather deal with the flack for hand picking them myself than to allow people to turn it into a popularity contest. Polling itself doesn’t work because the demographic responding would be biased towards only what they know. I trust myself more than anyone else in that department.

Also, the premise that I should exclude myself from competition because I am the organizer is ridiculous. I love the game first and foremost, and unless I do it through my own volition because of manpower, I’m not going to honor some unwritten conflict of interest rule because others think I’m “looking shady”. I’ve always operated with transparency and integrity. Just because I’m coincidentally strong doesn’t mean I’m favoring myself.

Shouldn’t Titans be excluded from singles though? Sure it makes for a better tournament/representation but if the event is to serve as a qualifier, then having titans allowed in singles is going to confound the results of the top 2. It makes it so that whoever manages to be farthest from the best players in the bracket is most likely to qualify.

Singles was never intended to be a qualifier. The three events stand on their own.

The idea of a 5 man round robin was always in my head, and it was very easy to pick the 4 as they all fit together nicely. The 5th spot was more problematic, as overlaps started coming into the picture. New York has many other star players, but it is very hard to distinguish who behind Nica is more stand out than the others. Pyro was a definite shoo in but he has retired from competitive 3S, let alone fly to Mongolia for it.

That’s when I thought I could just make it easy and fair by taking whoever placed highest in singles who didn’t happen to be already occupying the slot.

Singles is not a qualifier for Titans. Singles just happened to have an extra prize in addition to the money. People are used to the idea of qualifying events so I don’t blame them, but there’s a big distinction there.

But that won’t be an issue any longer, as the latest rules changes will address that problem specifically.

I’m not in touch with any scene really, I have no idea who Mutant and Ahmed are, but that Ahmed guy seems pretty confident that you shouldn’t be in that spot – apparently there are “more qualifying people”.

I mean, it’s as if they didn’t read anything in this thread: D.3 - If a community member feels very strongly about an invited Titan, that member may challenge the Titan to a FT5.

I’d like to see those “qualifying” people step up and challenge Exodus to a FT5/10.

Mostly for my entertainment, well, okay, entirely for my entertainment.

Ahmed is praised way too high by the crew. His confidence is often mistaken for his skills. Mutant however is actually very strong when he’s serious and using his main. He was the NEC champion after all. I’d like to see that FT5 too.

Hold the fuck up so we’re not gonna say anything about exodus not liking Hitomi tanaka’s titties?

Too. Fucking. Big.

Use them as pillows, sure. But sexually, I’m gonna need something smaller.

If you don’t like my opinion about Hitomi, you can challenge me to a FT5 too!
