Does anyone know if the hitbox on the way up and towards your enemy is the same as the EX-FBA?
Since you can cross up your EX-FBA’s on the opponents wakeup/resets (which any good Vega should be attempting…) I was thinking if the Ultra hitbox was the same then we could theoretically connect a cross up Ultra.
I don’t own the game quite yet and while I’ve tried with the little time I’ve had with the game, I haven’t been successful.
Does anyone want to start trying this or do we know that the hitboxes are different?
My two cents are that the hitboxes are definitely slightly different.
I spent a lot of time testing these two for the crossup video I made, and it was noticeable. I could land crossup ex fba pretty often, sometimes several times in a row. Crossup BHC would usually take me many tries.
On some characters, like Balrog, it was very easy to crossup fba but I couldn’t get the Ultra at all.

I guess because of the adjustments to EX FBA, it can now crossup medium sized characters as well! Although it seems harder than the big guys, I was able to land it on Ryu (no luck on Blanka).
Here are the characters that I have personally confirmed can be crossed up by EX FBA:
Sagat
Balrog
T Hawk
Zangief
Dudley
Rufus
Hakan
Gouken
Ryu
-Haven’t tested others, but probably most of the rest of the cast as well. If I ever get around to testing it, maybe I will just make a list of who CAN’T be crossed up.
-It could just be luck, but it seemed for me that Balrog, Dudley, Zangief, Sagat were easier than the others.
Cross Up BHC:
Sagat
T Hawk
Zangief (seems easiest, did it 3 times in a row)
-Again, these are just the characters I personally landed it on. There are probably others, but the BHC seems more strict and I honestly don’t have the patience to test it on the entire cast. Timing seems to slightly vary from character to character.
Looking at Vega’s stuff, BHC’s hitbox is definitely a good bit smaller than EX FBA (both in height and width), which would explain why it’s harder to time a cross-up with it, since there’s a smaller window to connect it with an opponent as you go through them. Wish there were pics to post for BHC floating about like there are for other moves, but I haven’t seen any yet.
Looks like I was a bit off about the size of the BHC hitbox, it’s actually about the same width, but doesn’t extend down as far as EX FBA. In fact, the vulnerable hitbox for Vega during BHC is actually smaller than for EX FBA, go figure.
At point-blank range (like after a knockdown) and character can be crossed up with EX-FBA. This includes Blanka and Honda. It’s like in that SF4 too.
Almost any character can be crossed up from mid-screen too, but that’s when small hitboxes become problematic. Vega will usually be too high by the time he’s passing through his opponent and the tiny hitboxes won’t connect. In a matter of fact, you can hit the same people at fullscreen that you can at mid-screen.
Thanks for the testing though. Knowing BHC can cross up is a great tool that will come in handy.
Hmm… So at point blank everyone should still be able to get tagged. The width is slightly smaller (the EXFBA extends all the way to the bottom of his shoe where BHC is slightly less than that) so timing will have to be that much tighter… not too bad.
Given the smaller vertical length it may not hit everyone from mid/full screen, but should definitely be worth a try point blank or at greater distances with larger characters.
Ah I didn’t know you could cross up anyone in SF4, I thought for sure it was big characters only. At midscreen at least I think crossing up Ryu is new, but maybe I’m wrong.
Also, I won’t say it’s completely impossible but I tried for quite some time to cross up Blanka from post-Izuna drop distance and had no luck.
As for realistically using crossup BHC, I think it’s not wise because of the strictness, you’re probably even better off just randomly throwing it out in the match. Unless you know the areas on the screen where it’s safe on whiff or block (most situations you’ll sail overhead and be a safe distance away but you’re still wasting Ultra). For some reason I was landing it consistently on Zangief though.
