I almost ordered a set for El Guapo as well, but held off pending ver 2.0. The project is coming along nicely as you saw in the pics; now to get on the wiring once the other ‘surprise’ board gets here.
I’ll have to modify the PCB holders Art sent to get everything to fit neatly. I may attach one of them to the weight block support on the side. We’ll see over the weekend.
40 watt soldering iron + 1/32" needle tip + RGB LEDs = disaster. Trying to desolder one of the LEDs I thought was faulty I ended up melting the plastic around the LED instead. Ended up burning the pad off one arc eye and tearing off another (same board). On one that I didn’t manage to melt anything too badly only the blue LEDs work. I’m going to go back to my old trusty iron (a craptacular Radio Shack 10-15 watt) that I soldered the other 13 arc eyes up with, then try to desolder and salvage the one with only blue LEDs. I’m seriously scared to use that other iron once I get to wiring up the MAdCatz fightpad…
I just thought about it this morning as i woke up.
Last night I was browsing classified ads for people selling their ps2s, i PMed some people about their slim model. Having not really seen one irl, and hearing it was about 1" thick. was wondering how it can be turned into a joystick case should it break down… Now obviously a joystick can’t be inserted so I thought, arrows on keyboard which sounded dumb imo. So I thought about a d-pad. Then I thought about having a track pad-like d-pad… Like let’s say for instance the ipod touch could be hacked to the point where we can program it to have directions on the screen, and macro that to the d-pad on your pcb… you can either grab the side o the ps2 like a controller and use your thumb to input directions, or you can use your index or middle to input directions, sorta like how you would use an iPod or Trackpad on your laptop…
Then what if the buttons themselves (should Sanwa screw on’s not fit), could be on a heat-detecting surface as well?
Then I thought iPad. If we were able to hack the iPad to the point where it can have a controller interface when plugged into your console through usb, or even bluetooth with the ps3… the whoel screen itself can be used as a stick, withoutt the joystick? Hey it’d make Hands, Legs, Electricity a lot easier, just slide your finger across the screen lol.
No noise from all the clicking, small and thin to be carried easily… i’m still more interested in the touch screen 2.5" d-pad more.
So I got the Tekken 6 wireless stick, and I go to sync it with my 360 to screw around with it, and B is constantly pressed… So I open it up and what do I find? The connection was bridged. Way to go Hori, thats some great quality control.
FAWK!Killed 2 1/2 arc eyes in 2 days. Salvaged one, but only one of the green lights work. Everything else is fine. How the hell can I solder up 13 of them then forget what I’m doing? Time to order a few more, I suppose. I feel like such a schmuck
I think I may have a recipe for Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce somewhere. Gotta try it…
Just had those Dr. Pepper jerky, it’s really good.
Thinking of a FGWidget macro pad for MMO games similar to what rtdzign made. I might have to use two FGWidgets (12 function keys + 4 directional keys) for it.
Hmmmm…You think there’d actually be a demand for it? I mean doing the LED stuff is pretty easy, and emulating a USB keyboard is pretty easy, but any such box would have to be pretty thick to hold the LEDs and not very ergonomic.
Oh it’s just for myself, I prefer bigger arcade buttons over my keyboard keys on those long grinding days. The case & button layout is my hurdle at the moment like you mentioned.
