Best TV for gaming

I’ve done some research on what the ideal tv for gaming would be and it seems like rear projection DLP is the way to go. I love how games look on an LCD but I’ve heard that it lags.

So what do you guys think? What kind of setup do you have? Flat Panel, Plasma, LCD, Rear Projection, Front Projection?

They all lag, check out the tech forum, there is a huge thread full of info.

Don’t know much about RPDLPs, but I would stay away from any Plasmas or Projections generally as they’ll get some nasty image burn problems. LCDs, DLPs don’t have to put up with that crap. I have a 26inch Pansonic LCD for gaming in my room, that works fine for me.

If you’re gonna get one through Circuit City or Best Buy, just take your favorite console into the store and plug it into every TV til you find one you like. I tried 20 at Circuit City before deciding.

If you’re not playing any fighting games then lag shouldn’t really matter. As for my setup I’ve got a 27 inch lcd. It looks great. I guess the lag might matter if you play fps’ too but I’m too much of a noob at those games to really notice.

My house has 2 lcds and 1 dlp(samsung HLS-5087)

I’ve tried playing cvs2 on two different LCDs (Samsung 4665 and Oleivia 32) and both had noticeable lag. I dont recommend playing fighting games on LCDs.

The DLP has lag also but it wasnt nearly as bad as the LCDs. The Samsung DLP has a “game mode” function that you can turn on to help eliminate the lag.

Great LCD with 0 hdtv lag and a “gaming” mode this is the hdtv i’m gonna get.

I think it’s the refresh rate you should look at? Seems like that is what I read. But yeah, lag is a big problem if you are playing music games, fighting games, online shooting games, or madden (that kick meter is a BITCH with a laggy TV.)

you know what, for supposedly superior technology there is alot of shitty things about HDTV’s. Lag, Blurring during movement, pixel loss… etc. Why couldnt they just perfect it before springing it on us. I mean at first the shit wasnt even fully HD at only 720p availiable up until a year or two back now dudes got TVs they paid out the ass for 3 years ago that arent up to snuff. Ive still yet to get HD because there is too much bullshit along with it. Ex. Why should HD cable cost so much more? Its not like it costs them more to send the signal or that theyve had to do alot of rewiring or anything is it? There arent even that many HD Channels availiable.

It just doesnt seem worth it yet.

Because quite frankly, we fighting gamers are a small market compared to the countless people who just want to watch television and movies on those things. The current tech may not be perfect for gaming, but it works fine for what most people want to do with these TVs, so any concerns we have are going to be (for the most part) ignored.

Its all about marketing. Don’t buy monster cables.

Nah im talking about the HD Terminal that the cable company wants to sell you and what you have to pay for the channels.

LCD’s do NOT lag more than the other techs. they ALL lag depending on the brand and model. and the tv’s only lag if you are using a source (ps2 for example) that does not output a resolution that matches the tv’s native resolution. a lot of newer tv’s out there upscale really well now, and if the game atleast supports 480p (and the console hooked up through component), you will probably be fine. just do your research. theres plenty of really good tv’s out there for gamers

Your cable company is bullshit then. I didn’t pay extra to get my HD, I don’t even use a cable box, they send out the signal unscrambled. Satellite always charges you more too btw, it’s like $10 more minimum to get even access to HD channels.

Just wait on the HDMI cables if you want, once HD becomes more commonplace the price will drop, or you can get them off Amazon for $2 a pop. Go bug Sep, he is an expert on this stuff. I always talk to him when I have a question about HD.

I’ve played fighting games in my Sharp Aquous 32" LCD43U and haven’t had any noticeable lag.

That thing is massive! You’re better off getting a home projection center at that point! Watch it be so big that the display lags a different number of frames in the center compared to the edges. It would be pretty sweet to watch fireballs change speed mid-flight.

I agree with m00b I have a 32 inch samsung model lnr32 and I don’t have lag at all playing ne games I play MvC2 on it with no prob and u know how much stuff Is on the screen at once lol

Previous generation consoles (PS2/Xbox/GC) lag big time on DLPs, but the current gen systems (PS3, 360, Wii), do pretty well imo. I say if anything, have the people at the electronics stores bust out a 360 and test out TVs for lag. It may sound a little lame, but its the best way.

No such thing as 0 HDTV lag if upscaling is present.
