Title. What’s the best/safest Aim if I JUST want to use it for IM’ing with little program start-up/memory usage.
I’ve been using Meebo through any browser and I just found Pidgin, which is currently using 22,000K Memory.
Miranda. 10 mins of setup and it will have a really small footprint. Very simplistic.
When I was using windoze, I used to use Miranda. If you’re not careful, you can get caught into downloading tons of plugins and customizing them for hours. So try and keep it simple lol.
Miranda proabaly uses less memory than others. After that you’re probably looking at pidgn, then digsby, which I personally use
i really like disgsby, because now i only have to remember 1 login, the one you sign up for digsby with, and it stores any im names you put into it. i dont think i’ll ever use another IM client in the foreseeable future.

I currently use Digsby, but MirandaIM easily has the smallest footprint of any IM client I’ve ever used.
Pidgin or trillian gets my vote.

On windows I use Pidgin.
On my old computers running Linux I go for the leanest, meanest client around. nAIM.
Trillian uses Miranda I believe. That’s what I use.
Guys, hes saying little memory footprint. In my own experiences I’ve found that Trillian is an absolute hog. Pidgin is not as bad, but overall, miranda is the smallest for just straigh IMing.
I agree. Trillian is a resource hog!
That’s strange. I keep Trillian open on an old ass 1ghz Dell and I don’t have any issues with it using too much memory or CPU.
I also haven’t upgraded in a long time, maybe it’s an old version.
