Awesome article about DOTA 2:

I still miss Tides of Blood though. If DOTA was Marvel, Tides of Blood was SF4. Good times were had.

Ignore that dude… He makes really stupid posts all around.

That was a good read, I’ve heard of DoTA but have no idea what it is.

street fighter is also a casual game. everybody knows ryu. how many of the millions of people who bought SF play it at above average level? a fraktion

high level WoW is very difficult. requires fast thinking, reactions, knowledge, good strategy & adapting. it is boring as fuck to watch though imo.

My brother followed Age of Empires 2: The conquerors. He told me that L_Clan: Chris was the best of that game.

lol ya, wow is not worthy of being so desperate for mainstream validation to be called an “esport”

No one cares. Fighting games are becoming the NFL of pro gaming with FPS as the NBA. The only real difference is that I’ve yet to see a fighting gamer get his name on a shitty product trying to whore it out on name basis. Looking at you, Fata1ity.

Actually it’s a piece of shit article that acts like Valve is an indie developer which has no money.
The same article about DotA1 would possibly be a~okay (though still bad), but this one “Oooh such a surprise that the well known companies Riot Games and S2 don’t stand a chance against the Indie developed DotA2 which has totally no financial backing and no advertisements anywhere” is just bullcrap.

Also DotA2 missed a gazillion chances to actually become a good game. —

E: Oh, this is actually not the article I thought it was. Was referring to this. Funnily enough, he brings up pretty much the same points from what I’ve seen when skimming over it quickly.

I think point they were making in those articles about that topic is that DOTA and the entire MOBA genre couldn’t have been concepted in today’s mainstream game development companies. I mean it’s a genre birth from a mod that plays very little like the game it was modded from. Today’s game developers would have too many concerns that would hamper them from thinking of something like it.

DOTA started as a mod and spawned an entirely new genre that couldn’t have been created by today’s game development companies.

That’s the point of the article. To be honest, I don’t even think DOTA was the best of the MOBA games on Warcraft 3. Tides of Blood was much better IMO.
