Best Player?

the best in my opinion would be combofiend

ABEGEN, Chou, Kusoru, Jeo, G.X from Japan…Combofiend and Wong from US…but honestly i think the only americans on the level of the best in Japan right now is Combofiend. US has more top players than Japan in Marvel but the best Japanese players are total monsters and I don’t see anyone in the US matching ABEGEN right now and the only way they might match him is through bruteforcing with top tiers, though I think that might not work either. I didn’t actually expect Japan to be this good until I tuned into some random xbox tournament, and then the first national marvel tournament in japan which was pretty amazing.

If I was to create some tiering of top players…

S: ABEGEN, Chou, Kusoru, DIE-Chan, TOMO, maybe Combofiend
A+: Jeo, G.X, Hayashi, Wong, Combofiend
A: MarlinPie, ChrisG, Dios X and many more
B: MastaCJ(I used to be a fan of his Dormammu but realized some things…)

Kusoru is a pretty amazing player too but he has an additional factor to him - his team is so whack, I’m sure hardly anyone knows how to play against it yet.

Final Round and Evo should be pretty interesting.

Combofiend for all-around.

Justin because he’s Justin.

Chris G because he plays to win and doesn’t care how douchy his team is.

Master CJ, I think he’s easily top 3 on the East Coast, and a strong competitor all around. His Dorm is stupid…

MarlinPie. His execution is amazing and his combo’s are so swag.

player tiers
S+ Combofeind Justin Wong Chris G
S Flocker Viscant Dios X
A Marlinpie Noel Brown Jago Yipes

Out of all the players, I think Clock and Viscant still need time to get better. Viscant’s old set ups don’t work as well as it used to and Clock needs more time to get used to Strider so he doesn’t die so fast.

ur fucking high, hop off japans nut sack

Learn the game and research players, thanks.

Chris G is probably not top tier at the moment, he has been struggling for a while ever since he’s caught between playing his Morrigan and his Ryu team. J Wong barely won SCR and to me he’s not top tier either with his current team. Combofiend is clearly ahead of both of them, he has a settled team and a very strong one with no anti-tier whoring. And you can see a stability and dominance in his play that you can’t find with other players. I think only PR Rog can possibly compete for that top tier player position, but then again I am not convinced by his new teams with Felicia as anchor.

lol. name us players that can bomb jp players (cept for igt unkw0wn, holdin down that dmv)

I’m surprised people have no listed Bum and Omnisscythe as strongs from the EC. I guess it’s cause they have not placed high in tournaments? That being said I really fucking wish I was in the EC. The 2 tournaments I have not won, I got taken out by Zero players (apparently this character is my kryptonite) and I don’t know of any notable Zero’s in the EC.

Bum is good but if the only times we see him play is at his house playing against the same group of people over and over…it doesnt really say much. At least not enough to make people think that he’s at that top level like the more known players.

I’ll have to disagree with this east coast has a stronger marvel scene easily. But if we’re talking about AE 2012 then west coast beats the east no contest aside from Sanford. Aside from all that I’ll have to say the best marvel player right now would have to be combo or Justin as well. But I feel the east coast doesn’t get as much credit as they should. I feel the west coast players get more attention just cuz of combo marn champ etc. they’re more fan favs if anything. But when it comes down to skill I have to go with east coast. Hell Justin came from the east coast he only moved cuz the west coast had more comp for sf4 and a better chance at getting a sponsorship

Very nice analysis this is prolly the best way to put it hahaha

I don’t think EC is strong at all. We mainly see Chris G, Masta CJ, and Marlin Pie do good at break tournaments. But if you listen to the commentators, they would always say that attendence was low that night with numbers like 12 entrants. I think the fact that these guys are streamed make them looks a lot stronger than they really are. I just don’t think Break tournaments are where the strongest competition is, and we’re going to see familiar faces a lot.

There is also Big Two where you add NY players in the mix. Again, I don’t think the “undercard” is that strong, and I think even this tournament gets low attendees. So again, the same players pretty much place in the same spots.

My point is, through the power of streaming, these players look more dominant than they really are. Not to say they are bad players, but it seems to me that overall the East Coast isn’t really all that strong period.

West Coast has tons of unsteamed tournaments, with tons of entrants. At any given time anyone on the West Coast could destroy Combofiend or Justin Wong. Then you have Norcal with tons of strong players. There is no way the East Coat is that strong in Marvel. People though East coast would go and dominate at Evo last year, and Evo performed so bad, and got bodied in the 5 vs 5.

People need to understand, just because you see people on stream week after week, doesn’t mean they’re dominant players. Sometimes a stream can blow up someone’s image. I personally don’t think anyone on the East Coast should even be considered top 5, and probably lower than that.

Keep in mind I live on the East Coast (the south east). There is no player from NY or NJ I feel could even compete with the players from my area. Let alone against the West Coast.

Didn’t jwong win like…everything at SCR lol?

How do you continue to make so many bad posts.

It’s funny that you mention about streams making the east coast players seem bigger than they are because that’s actually how i feel about west coast players before.

I also agree with Jerkey that i think alot of people give west coast too much credit to due alot of fanboys of combofiend, justin etc…The only people that really stands out in the west coast as true top players in my eyes are combofiend, justin, mine, fchamp and fanatiq.

But i hope there will be more west coast players and northeast players heading down to final round, it’ll be a good representation of how things truely are at this point before evo.

I think a few are coming down, but I’m not sure.

I don’t think Combfiend, Justin, F. Champ, or Fanatiq are why the West Coast is better. I think it’s because they have a lot of not so known players who are still extremely good at the game. And the odd thing is, a lot of players with results are overlooked. I mean how many people refuse to ever mention Guys like Mine or X-ray. How many people fail to realize the Mr Naps is really good at Marvel? How about Knives with a really good Spencer. If people get their head out of their ass, there are TONS of players in the West Coast beyond the Wongs and the Combofiends. And I think these unknown players are BETTER than anyone the East Coast has to offer. At the very least these unknown, or unpopular players are still very much a threat. When you get passed Chris G, Marlin Pie, and Masta CJ, who do you really have left? I don’t think Ray Ray is strong enough to compete with the West Coast. Noel Brown may come close, but it’s honestly because he’s Justin’s Friend. Dieminion, as much as I love him in AE, and how much I love his lame style in Marvel, probably couldn’t make a dent.

The East Coast doesn’t have anyone. They don’t have a “second tier”, it’s pretty much A team or die. West coast has a strong second tier, and that alone makes them better than East Coat. But this is pretty much the West Coast in every game.

We also have a lot of scenes that get no attention. Florida, Alabama, Georgia, NC all have pretty decently strong Marvel scenes. I’m sure that’s the case all around the country.

I think Final Round is going to be a great preview for Evo. I think a lot of people are going to get blown up but unknowns, and I think at Evo the results are going to really surprise everyone. We have a lot of strong players in this game who aren’t mentioned because they don’t get the stream time as more popular players. But best believe there are a lot of threatening players.

Hm, let’s see… MarlinPie won a major and he beat that guy in grand finals, what’s his name again… Ah combofiend! Seriously, even combofiend said marlin is an absolute monster and that he has is the best player for all the characters on his team. He’s easily one of the best players. But i seriously don’t know what’s up with people tiering dios x that high. He’s good, but nowhere near a top player imo.

I think Dios X has the best Doom and the fact that he’s stuck with the same team since the beginning of vanilla made him come up with a lot of good technology I don’t see other people using. He’s definitely should be up there on the top player tierlist. You might even say he has the best Storm too.
