Justin is the most knowledgable. Combofiend is the most consistent. ChrisG is the most annoying. Marlin Pie is the most electrifying. FC Jago is the most fraudulent.
This thread can (and probably will) become a huge fanboy thread, but I personally like this subject.
In my opinion, Justin Wong, Combofiend, MarlinPie, ChrisG, and ClockWork are all the best players in certain fields.
Allow me to explain:
Justin Wong: Best at reading his opponent and comebacks
Combofiend: Best at playing angry/motivated and comebacks
MarlinPie: Best at execution, swag, and setups.
ChrisG: Best fundamentals and spacing.
ClockWork: Best lab monster.
Justin and Combofiend are overall more complete I’d guess, but there hasn’t been enough tournament footage to validate any of them.
Combofiend and Justin are the best right now IMO, but Combofiend wins simply because he plays better characters. I don’t know what the hell happened to Justin but it seems like after 10 years he decided he will only play the “fair” characters lol… Props to him though.
And I agree about MarlinPie, he is what Vince Carter was to NBA in the early 2000’s. Not really the MVP but he was still the guy everybody wanted to see play.
Twan is the best MVC3 in Michigan and is one of the top in the midwest. He came to Cleveland and destroyed everyone there.
Now that Twan and Hove are in TFA, they have some strong MVC3 players and I expect them to show out at Final Round.
Best analogy so far is Marlinpie/Vince Carter. Jwong is Jordan, Combofiend is Tim Duncan, Noel Brown is Paul Pierce, and Viscant is Larry Bird. Detrimantix might wind up being Steve Nash. Oh and Fanatiq is Kobe.
I think its a toss up right now. If we were still in Vanilla MVC3 I think we’d have a bit more of a definite answer. But there are a lot of things in UMVC3 that have been changed dramatically. Not to mention, there are THOUSANDS of people both on Xbox and PS3, that have not appeared on the tourney scene. Flocker was one such person, a complete unknown until he appeared and dominated a lot of the top players, Viscant included. So in my opinion, there’s not a definite best.
He’s a complete unknown only if you haven’t been paying attention to the results outside of the top 8. Am I the only one to remember he had a chance to knock J Wong into losers in CEO but hilariously killed his Phoenix in the first second of the 3rd round by mistakenly calling her as an assist? This was back when he called himself Job.
That’s because many people still seems to think that he’s a fraud who lucked his way into a win in NEC. I personally would argue that he was the best non-Phoenix player towards the end of vanilla, and results in Season’s Beatings and EVO proved that (just that he choked badly in Devastation). People don’t seem to appreciate the genius of his MvC3 play, they are all complaining about how his UMvC3 team sucks because he doesn’t have Akuma for Wolverine, without considering that he doesn’t need a neutral assist for Wolverine due to how incredibly good he is with him.
While Rog isn’t my favorite player, he’s probably the player I would least want to play against in a tournament, period. Sometimes his tactics may look cheap, but they’re deadly, and quite clever usually. To complete the above basketball analogy, PR Balrog is Shaq in his prime.
the top 5 in my opinion are Justin, Combofiend, Viscant, PR Rog, and Chris G.
he’s not that good. he just has time to play because of sponsorships and gets his ideas from justin. hand me downs only get you so far he hasnt contributed anything to the metagame.
Like 2nd place at Evo defeating Justin in Loser’s Finals to get there? >__>
thats correct. Anyone on this site could get second at evo in a brand new game if they were being fed info from justin and had unlimited playtime, free travel, and a boss team.
PR Rog and Justin. Then probably like Mine, Noel, and Combofiend. Fiend needs to actually go to events though.
@Otter: if that is what you seriously think, please just don’t come to SRK in the future
Dunno, Jwong likes playing Iron Fist a lot.
Like, IIRC, Storm/Sent/Cyke in MvC2 was on the lower end of the tourney viable teams, but he played them anyway.
Odd, I could have read this and thought of Ricky instead.
But isn’t Storm/Sent/Cyke on paper the best team? Not as hard hitting as Commando, but more invincibility.
I think Justin would be the best, if he played more seriously. He was so determined to win with Iron Fist at SCR, but came pretty close to losing. Had he picked a more serious team, it’s likely Justin would have dominated.
Chris G is a close second. With his new Morrigan team, he has a pure zone/keep away that he can throw as a curve ball. His Hawkeye as anchor is almost as scary as Wesker, which is ridiculous considering he also has Wesker on his team too. Which do you kill first!?
Top 3 IMO in no particular order : Fanatiq, Combofiend, and Justin Wong.
No worries, when that happens certain powers will take control :wgrin:

No one had unlimited playtime. If someone in the fighting game community can transcend time, I would like to note this in my papers.
Also, my real vote goes toward that guy who has 3000 wins and 0 losses and is ranked 1st on PSN.
Combofiend, the most electrifying man in MvC3’s history.
