Bah, I’m no Smash kiddy, I understand the difference between it and real fighters XP Anyways, I am hitting some basic fighting game walls the past few days myself. I have never been good with execution, so doing even basic combos is a bitch for me. My links are decent, but as soon as a special is thrown in… I know the cure is practice, but it is frustrating for a beginner…
if you’re looking for a character that doesn’t take too long to master, as far as execution is concerned, i’d recommend alex. he’s the most fun character in the game. he doesn’t have anything that’s really hard to do and doesn’t have super hard combos. he’s also great because his normals are powerful and you can depend mostly on mind games and shit.
^ This.
Don’t start with Sean. There are many reasons why you shouldnt… his combos are more tricky, his specials are unusual, and winning will be challenging, even against the CPU.
I’d say Alex’s execution is just as hard as Ken’s, if not a tad harder… You need to be able to confirm his 2x cr.LP into SA2 which is a tad harder than cancelling shoto x2 cr.LK (Ken/Sean/Ryu(?) can do cr.LK, LP, LK for extra ease on confirming) if you ask me. You’ll also still need to DP from time to time and be able to consistently do “instant” 180 motions, which shotos (well, Ryu has the donkey kick and Sean has the tackle but these are used far less than Alex’s 180+P/K) steer away from, especially if you want to use Alex’s spiral DDT mindgames (like cancelling cr.LK/LP into DDT, st.MP/MK into MK DDT, etc.) What pootnannies said about his normals is absolutely true, though - And it’s awesome when you nail them a couple of times with common shit like a st. HP or a b+HP (headbutt) and they’re nearly stunned already.
I’d stick with Q or Makoto if you’re serious about them…
If you’re new you’re gonna get raped regardless of char. Might as well learn with the character you have true interest in.
I really meant “mixups”. But what’s wrong with that statement? :looney:
DDT sucks. Balls.
it’s not that great but it has it’s uses. i use it if i think they’ll throw out a low attack or once in a blue moon i’ll try to cross someone up after a knockdown with it. it’s still incredibly risky to use though.
This:
And onto…
…
What the shit does DDT have to do with countering lows…?
I’ll have Rom reiterate for me once again:
DDT has its uses. If they parry a late AA MP you can cancel into DDT and it’ll grab them once they land.
Er, that’ll really only get people who are mashing throw as they land. DDT is shitty, its only uses fall into the gimmick/meh/useless category. Crossing up after knockdown is whatever. DDT ‘mixups’ are unnecessarily dangerous and really only good for getting a laugh at someone that got hit by it.
Being an Alex main myself, I know how much DDT actually sucks. First off, you’re committing to a move that you can see from miles away. On reaction, most good players will jab out of it (yes, it loses to jab).
DDT is something you use when your opponent is already mind-fucked and you want to add insult to injury. Beyond that, it’s not a good move at all for the highest level. Best to stay away.
A crouch low kick into DDT surprises the opponent, and works. You idiots should shut up, and refrain from talking about Alex.
Please, stop being either 1) an idiot or 2) a shitty troll.
DDT has its uses against Hugo only IIRC, since it would hit even if hugo is crouchin
but, yeah I do think that joe the condor is an idiot
Or 3) you’re an idiot who doesn’t know how to play Alex. Follow the sheep > that way. The point of the DDT is to not overuse it, it’s supposed to be a surprise attack. Do you not know the c.lk > foot stomp? It works the same exact way, make them predict that you are going to foot stomp, but DDT instead.
Alex 101, I hope you guys learned something today.
Alex 101?
I know all about the cr.short xx DDT trick, and the cr.jab, and the far s.jab, because I’ve done them all, in match play, in tournament. And half the time, it actually won’t work due to your opponent actually having good reactions.
We already know that the point of DDT isn’t to overuse it. That’s kindergarten Alex, son. Once every ten matches. Or if you have an opponent that mashes throw on wake-up, but there are better options than DDT (such as standing out of throw range and using something like headbutt for the stupidly good stun).
And you’re basically playing theory fighter by saying, “Oh, but if I mix-up with stomp versus doing DDT…” GTFO.
I’d suggest you stop spouting shit that people found out in '03 and claiming it as your golden sense of teaching.
Alex 452, and I hope you decide to shut the fuck up.
There’s more than enough time to crouch again even if you fall for it and stand up waiting for the stomp. If you’re on that situation, a regular power bomb is a way better than a DDT.
You’re a fucking idiot.
In case you’re a troll, I won’t grace you with a long response. In the end, you’re just an idiot.
