I was wondering, what’s the best game for stick starters, so they get used to the stick thing? I was thinking about making a list of games so people could come here and check out a game and play it with the stick without being enraged with hard combos or insane stuff.
Well, uh… maybe I’m crazy, but I would say Guilty Gear. It certainly gets you up to speed quickly.
If you’re looking for a game with less complicated controls, maybe IaMP? It has QCFs and DPs and you can dash by double tapping or holding a button, there aren’t any half-circles that I can remember… The game focuses a LOT on good movement and spacing strategies and is pretty fun and original.
I’m not so sure the game will matter a whole lot, as what you put in is generally what you get out. If you get used to a stick on a simple game you’re still going to have trouble doing more complicated things the first time you do them.
i say load up your favorite fighter in final burn alpha and have execution aid on while you play. Super Street Fighter II turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2 are solid fighters and my personal favorites.
I agree with jeenyus1 that SHMUPs are a great thing to get someone started off. However, if we’re talking fighters…
Easy Mode: Shin Kidou Senki Gundam W: Endless Duel
-Possibly the greatest way to train up to get the essentials down. QCF, QCB, DP, QCFx2, all the motions you’ll ever need for basic 2D fighters are here. This game also has rather lenient input timing as well, so newbies can get a good feel of the motion without having to worry about strict timing issues. This game is also a great starter game for combos.
Medium Mode: Super Street Fighter II Turbo
-This one’s pretty self-explanatory. This is the game most people will point you to for perfecting executions and this game pretty much has every motion you’ll ever commonly run into in a fighting game. Charge motions, 360/720s, Tiger Knee, mashing, this game basically has it all.
Hard Mode: Guilty Gear
-A step up from GWED, this has more complex motions and if you stick with it until you can play advance level, it’ll teach you pinpoint execution like no other fighter could possibly do. Frame traps, character specific combos, Bursting, Air Dashes, Roman Cancels, this game will hit you with possibly one of the most strict yet lenient timing systems in any fighter.
Extreme Mode: Basically any King of Fighters game
-Even the SNK fans will tell you that motions in these games are retardedly complicated. It helps you absolutely no bit for general execution, but it’ll help you learn to be precise with your directional control in the heat of a match.
Shoto Mode: Street Fighter I
-Self-explanatory. If you can pull moves off consistently in this game, you’ll never need to “learn” how to play a Shoto ever again.
MAHVEL Mode: Marvel VS Capcom 2
-THIS IS MAHVEL BABY!
If you’re new to sticks and want to get very frustrated (although it’s worth it because you’ll gain good experience) play some 3’s.
You’re gonna be pissed cus you’ll lose to people you wouldn’t normally lose to but it’s good experience in knowing where your diagonals are. Especially if you play against good Yun/Yang.
imo…go wit the game u plan on playin or r currently playin
wuts the point of learning a new game that u mite not play again jus to learn stick?
its like learning to drive a car off-road when u spend 99% of ur days in a downtown city -__-’
im not sayin starting a new game to learn a stick is bad
jus only if u dun plan on playin that game in the future
