Best controller for fighting games?

I don’t see how anyone can play on an analogue stick. Do people seriously use the analogue stick with it’s lack of position recognition, digital input and blah blah blah. They use what’s most comfortable for themselves sir.

Analog stick has too much throw for fighting games… Shit, a walk-up SPD is easier with a d-pad than an a-stick. At least you can FEEL where your thumb is… too easy to accidentally jump with the analog stick… And fuck holding down back… OOPS, accidentally holding down. At least with just back, you can say, “oh, they’re not walking backwards, derrr” and fix it… Down vs down/back, you don’t know until you got hit.

I personally use this, you might wanna invest in one of them because they are pretty good. No mods though, the stock parts are the best:

D-pad slides out of place and eventually breaks. The non-pro version is GDLK though.

Second place to this…

Hit Box.

I used to think the HitBox was gimmicky as hell and a total joke, but when I finally got to try one out, I was pretty amazed with it. It’s serious business.

Sega Activator

Always played on one of these, best player ever. Buttons are really good and feel solid (unlike DS2 buttons, that break for no apparent reason and feel CHEAP), and its weight its really fucking great.

This one is pretty cool too, it has all the features from DS1, except they feel a lot lighter:

Also, dont forget the first TRUE pad for fighters, the SNES pad, with a great D-Pad and six (!) buttons, IMO what gave Nintendo the true advantage back in the days (Hyper Fighting, anyone?):

Yeah I heard how them Sega Saturn pads are the best ones for fighting games, I might invest in one of those soon…

A lot of these controllers don’t even have 8 buttons, so not really suited for Street Fighter.

Talking about needing 360 degrees of directions and 8 buttons for street fighter, are we sure there isn’t some trolling going on here?

No it’s just easier to play with 360 motion and 8 buttons. With an analog stick you can perform moves more quickly and accurately (as a MOTION rather than blocks) and obviously 8 buttons: LP, LK MP, MK, HP, HK, Triple Punch and Triple Kick (for EX and Ultra moves).

Just want to note that this is totally false. It is much faster to move your thumb across a D-Pad than an analog stick, especially if the stick is located in a weird position. D-Pad is also the fastest way to execute a 720 or 1080 motion. This doesn’t make a huge difference for most things, but it probably makes ultras come out ~1F faster.

I suppose it depends on what you’re used to. If D-pad was so great, why is it that fightsticks have a stick (i.e. something which moves in a smooth 360 motion) rather than a 4-block arrow keys? Why is it that Street Fighter isn’t played on a keyboard instead of controller or fightstick?

This a BAZILLOIN OF TIMES!.

peole are really under estimating this. The d-pad is godlike while the button are susually managable. I will admit the saturn as the best button lay out but that only if your playing capcom or some mandatory 6 button fighter. But considering how most fighter these day and age barly
have 5 (let alone 6). The issue is legible.

I can get hands on of these as well as keio snes>psx converter and any decent PSX/PS2 to whjat ever console and your golden.

You were comparing a D-Pad to the analog sticks on pads, not to arcade sticks. Moving an arcade stick with your whole hand/arm is a much different and faster motion than awkwardly rolling your thumb across an analog stick.

In my opinion it’s more awkward to use a big stick. You have to make more exaggerated moves whereas with an analog stick you can do everything much faster. I suppose it depends on your preference. I personally can’t see how the game is playable on anything but a 360/PS3 controller, but it clearly is given that some people use D-pad, some use their actual face to play, some use a keyboard etc.
