Slash and I were just talking about this, we have a lot of games coming out, and as a fighting game player/promoter I really would like to see a scene flourish in all of the games. Some will definitely be larger than others, but ideally even if it is a small scene I would like to see people playing. It would be cool to see larger scenes in some other games, most notably Tekken. We also have Soul Calibur 5 coming out, as well as SFxT. Both of those games look like they have appeal to a wide range of gamers (competitive and casual), which means a possible surge in new players eventually. I do want to see a rise in our Tekken scene, as well as find the Blazblue people (if any in Oregon). Hell, if people are into Skullgirls we’ll promote it.
For Tekken however, I know there are people who play, and did play back in the day. I want to see if we can condense the scene and get it going again. I don’t mind running a tourney for Tekken 6, but would like to hear some interest for it. I might be on the wrong forum though, will head over to the Tekken forum as well.
ps, I gotta mention a game that has some appeal to competitive gamers; Catherine. Hella fun and can get made competitive. I think we will pick up a copy for Best Bout.
It is a day before Superbowl Sunday thankfully, not competing with that. For Soul Calibur, I have heard talk of peeps playing it, we will have it there for sure. We will be promoting the game.
You better pick up a copy of Tekken before Catherine, as much as I like the game. Did you know you have to unlock multiplayer in that game? It’d be more competitively viable if you didn’t have to do that. It’s just such an inconvenience.
Anyway, if you want a Tekken tournament there was easily at least five people who would have entered a T6 tournament at the last Best Bout.
Yo Portland/Oregon has been doing a great job of holding it down, let’s keep that momentum going ; ) This next weekend is going to be hype, Oregon practice up and out of towners stay sharp for this next battle. Good stuff NW, see you Saturday!
Something needs to be stressed at this tournament. If you are using a converter for PS2-360, or PS2-PS3, you need to have a backup option in case it isn’t available.
Also Soul Calibur V will now be an event at Best Bout Beatdown 9. We are having it as a side event this time around to gauge interest. If it’s hot, we will upgrade it to main game status. People seem hype on it so far. It will start at 5:30pm Saturday.
Big shout out to GAME TRADER, who is again sponsoring the event. These guys have really supported the fighting game community in Portland, if you are shopping for games this is the place to go. They really do give a damn about our scene, that’s something we can support. Best Bout will from here on our get all of our games from Game Trader.
Hype, packed turn out again. Good stuff Portland, we will have results up soon but in the meantime here are some pics from the event. Thanks to Game Trader for the support again, as well as Omne, Slash, BBH and Paul for systems, and to everyone who showed up to support the cause. Good shit Portland ; )
Yeah I take off every Beatdown Saturday normally, but I kind of forgot to ask about this one until a week ago, and I almost didn’t find someone to switch with me. But obviously things worked out.
