There are no bad match ups, just bad players who use Bison badly against any character.
Really hate getting put against a Guile player. I usually go in and get as much damage in as possible and let him come to me.
feels like it has always been Guile’s favor in every game lol
What’s the best response to blocking abel’s step kick?
Abel’s stepkick is neutral on block so it’s a standard mixup situation. The “best” response depends on what Abel does next. TT will beat most options you have if you don’t spend meter and if you’ve blocked it he’s already in so I tend to try and avoid getting into that situation in the first place but back teleport is a good option unless he has Ultra stocked or you’re already in the corner.
Ex Psycho unless he has Ultra stocked is a good option too but yeah, try and space yourself to whiff punish it.
Stepkick forward dash cancelled leaves Abel at +1.
Really? I have the AEBits app for iPhone and it says it’s +0. Nvrmnd though, my advice stands. Spend meter or get away.
Naw you’re right. It’s 0. It was +1 in Vanilla.
Abel doesn’t have any 3 frame moves. The best moves for Bison without meter are throw and cr.LK.
cr.LK will only lose to EX TT and regular throw.
Regular throw will beat everything except TT.
but besides that, you’re right about the best option depends on what Abel does next.
What you DON’T want to do is nothing. If you block a step kick do something, anything. don’t just sit there. If you do you’ll give Abel confidence to run a train on you.
Any tips vs deejay? I played one yesterday and I couldn’t do anything. Everytime I got in, I was just stuck blocking his vortex of jump ins.
Having a hard time against Evil Ryu lately, it is similar to the Ryu match up except E.Ryu does a lot more damage. He needs maybe 3 combo opportunities to win while Bison needs at least 6. Low life or not.
Fireball pressure is strong as I cannot block cr.mk and Ex Scissors through.
Most set ups get DP’ed or teleported so I’ve been trying to hang back but I’m losing the ground battle to superior damage output. I can only really get beast damage from jumps and punishes, but I don’t want to jump and my opponent doesn’t whiff that often.
My failed approach has been to get poke damage so that I don’t need as many combo opportunities to win. Getting them to the corner and running the Scissors Kick pressure. One wrong guess from me knocks me down, E.Ryu gets to escape or run a mixup that can lead me to losing a quarter to a third of my life.
Any tips appreciated.
^ Against E.Ryu u can treat him like ryu until he gets meter. Use bison’s walk speed to stay just out of his cr.mk range while poking with St.mk. The only option they have is to jump or focus, so just anti air and sk’s the focus if you have charge.
If you get e.ryu in the corner keep him there as long as possible (don’t go for jumpins, setups, or frametraps).
No need for you to guess much just throw out a poke or sk and chill for a sec (let him hang himself).
When he gets 2 bars STAY out of low forward range, don’t get brave n try to play footsies cause all he wants is a cr:mk fireball fadc into god knows what…
When he throws fb’s the best option (imo) is to focus it then dash up throw or st:rh. Its too slow to punish with ex:sk consistently so just save your meter.
Thanks for the tips, I’ll stick to your suggestion next time I play Evil Ryu. Focus dashing is something I didn’t consider but it would help to make ground.
Havent been on here in a really long time but Im here to shed some light and give people a better understanding of his (BI) matchups and hopefully those with an open understanding mind can take this and have better parameters of understanding going into Ultra.

How are you guys finding the new matchups?
I’m finding Elena’s hit and hurtboxes really difficult to deal with midscreen in the footsie game but that’s just lack of knowledge on my part at the moment I think. Overall not having too much trouble beating Elenas off though.
Poisons are giving me far more trouble than any of the other new chars. She has really odd blockstun and I’m trying to Ex PC too early and getting nothing instead. I feel she has pretty good tools to use against Bison midscreen and I have to work far harder in the footsie game against her than the others. Her floaty jump is great to test out your new AA options on though. You can force her to fight you on the ground real easy.
Haven’t played very many Rolentos at the mo so can’t really comment on that.
Hugo’s a pushover. I’ve been playing keepaway and Bison’s normals piss on Hugos imo. He has to work incredibly hard to get in.
Decapre in the right hands is a bit of a monster I reckon. She has some pretty dirty ambiguous setups and what the fuck at that damage off her uppercut. Need to work out how to punish blocked specials now as they look unsafe but I’m punishing them pretty inconsistently at the moment.
Just a few thoughts anyway chaps. How are you guys finding things?
Actually I have seen some Hugo’s (not many) that are monsters. You basically need to stay grounded and not be predictable because Hugo can murder you so fast if he guesses well and his combo damage is out of this world.
I have noticed that really good Decapre’s are vicious too. Very mixup oriented, but she is new so it is hard to say, still learning.
I have had the same problem with footsies against Eleana. I have instead moved to bait out her punishable attacks and play keep away.
For me I have not had any trouble against poison.
I kind of like the Decapre matchup. Yeah, she can be vicious in the right hands but Bison crushes her in the mid-game. HK beats her teleport divekick, SK will beat her teleport feint (whatever its called when she teleports then goes back into place) and she doesn’t do well under scissor kick pressure. Still, it is pretty early in the games release though so hopefully there isn’t any crazy Decapre tech that comes out.
I also find it easy to whiff punish and keep out Elena, but I can’t stand poisons. Can’t seem to find an answer to her flip kick. Either that or I just suck at this game.
I haven’t faced many Rolento’s but I wonder, can his U2 punish a block EX PC?
Elena: I’m trying to learn her so fighting her with Bison is kind of OK but people are also using a lot of weird strategies that just makes me go WTF every time I fight a good Elena. I think this is an even match and Bison has to be on point BUT like it was mentioned, her hurtboxes are irregular and she can seem to whiff punish a bit easier.
Hugo: I have no other game plan other than to counter poke and turtle so far. I think this is an even match up since Hugo can kinda be kept out by roundhouse and crouch fierce. Hugo’s SPD ranges are kinda shitty but people just have to watch out for meat squasher since it comes out fast and wall carries/sets up so much shit for Hugo.
Poison: It kinda feels like a shoto match up in some regards but Poison having low HP makes it a little tolerable. I think Bison has the slight advantage here.
Decapre: Haven’t fought any good ones, I have to go offline at Next Level to play DaFeetLee or hope someone online is good enough with her so far. My game plan is still counter poking, chipping, and running away.
Rolento: Feels like an even match up, but Rolento’s got so many tricky stuff that carried over from SFxT, I’m not too phased. Just need some adaptation and I think we’re good to go.
I think Hugo has some nice tools against bison. Armor on his special moves helps him deal with the poking game, and if he has an ultra stocked it can be unwise to raw lk.scissor him. Definitely have to play a lot smarter and react to everything Hugo does as opposed to playing other grapplers
Also, Rolento can punish ex.psycho with U2. Does a ton of damage too
How do you fight Poison man? Can’t work out whether I should be playing footsies, rushing her down or just building meter and turtling.
Also: Do not use U1 to chip Decapre on wakeup. Just found that out the hard way. Ex Sting beats it clean.
