Whoever said nj.mp works vs gief lariat was lying. No matter the spacing it seems it will lose to crouch lariat. Gief is stupid in AE, he did NOT need the spd range buff. It only gives him more of a stupid advantage in his good matchups and helps his bad matchups not at all.
Bison’s problem is that he can not keep him out reliably, his jabs stuff all your pokes. All he has do is mash them and he inches forward plus you can do nothing. You can TRY and whiff punish the jabs but good luck with that. Plus as usual Bison’s lack of decent AA shows here
I feel the Gief match up is in Bison’s favor.I can come back poke by poke on a Gief and there isnt shit he can do once I have on the lead ,Gief has to get random or the player has better footsies than me.Which if they do Gief isn’t the issue it’s me.It’s not free because you have to use Bison fourth special move the clock. And it’s hard to punish st.mp.But your pokes are better.
3K Lariat and 3P Lariat lose to nj.Fierce and nj.Roundhouse respectively, or the other way around anyway its a guessing game, sine the differences between the moves are tiny so its hard to know which one they’ll use because good Giefs delay the Lariat until the very last second.
Rose is just a stupid match up, no clue what Bison is supposed to do there.
In my opinion this match-up is slightly in Bisons favour. Walk her into the corner with st.mk, once you get her there there is virtually nothing she can do to escape the pressure if you do it right. Timing a meaty cr.short will result in you blocking her EX spiral if she does it on wake-up, and you even get a free punish for it. Also her fireball is so slow that U2 can actually be effective as an anti-fireball ultra in this match.
So found out a few things in the gief matchup. Namely going for a crossup j.hk tends to stuff a wakeup crouch lariat or even crouch lariat in general and that nj.hp thanks to Big Marcus for showing me that one works pretty well in general.
Added bonus is j.hk tends to make people whiff their reversal attempts if they go for ex green hand or stuffs backdash attempts. It will lose to an extremely well timed ex spd though so its not completely free.
I loathe this matchup as a Rose player. Dictator’s frame traps are more damaging and safer than Rose’s, she can’t pressure Bison if he has meter and he can keep up with Rose’s footsies with his st. MK and fast walk speed.
Punish whiffed slides with st. MK and deep slides with cr. LK into whatever you want. Slide can also be beat pre-emptively by Scissor Kicks.
Rose’s st. HK can trade or beat Scissor Kicks if done early enough. Vary up your timing. St. HK outranges all of Dictator’s pokes but is easy to FADC through. St. MK also has good range but can be FADC through, though it can’t be punished as consistently.
As mentioned already, meaty cr. LK is safe against EX Spiral (13f) startup and is easy to time. Only move EX Spiral is good for beating is Bison’s cl. HP frame trap and she has to take a massive gamble for that since it’s -6 on block, making it a braindead easy and hitconfirmable punish with cr. LK.
Cr. MP xx Spiral is not a true blockstring so Bison can blow through Spiral with EX Psycho Crusher. The window isn’t huge but it’s entirely possible to reversal. The further the cr. MP is spaced the easier it is to do. Good to use if Rose is being predictable with her blockstrings.
EX Psycho Crusher is also great for blowing through Rose’s frame traps, particularly cl. MK.
Rose can’t option-select any of Bison’s reversals except for teleport with EX Spark or U1.
Rose can stuff Bison’s followups to Devil’s Reverse and Headstomp on reaction to any forward movement with nj. LP. On the other hand, if she messes up her timing the followup will trade in your favor or flat-out beat her. Her more rewarding punish for followups is a late EX Soul Throw but is significantly riskier and hard to time.
U2 orbs are projectiles so EX Psycho Crusher can blow through them. Use at your own discretion.
i think bison has the advantage. im not an expert at this matchup but rose can stuff a lot of bisons pokes, or attempted frametraps with c.mp (spaced correctly) slide is also good against scissor kick on startup. although rose has no solid mixups so bison can just block and tech. once bison gets her in the corner she’s done for now that she doesn’t have free u2 getaway
I hope I didn’t give the impression that I believed it was otherwise. It’s a pain-in-the-ass matchup but I agree it’s 4-6 at worst.
What I do like about this matchup is that neither of the characters have ridiculous damage output or massive comeback potential. Rose can contend with Dictator’s pokes, which is something that not many other characters claim. She can shut down Devil’s Reverse or Headstomp followups, though it’s not an option Dictator needs to go to anyways.
On the other hand, Rose has a much tougher time keeping him honest when he has meter than the other way around. Probably true for most other characters but given Rose’s horrible damage output and her problem with getting in, it just makes the matchup even harder.
Yun and Yang are easier. Yang especially without his st.lk and crossup. The rest look roughly unchanged, including Fei and Guile. Honda and Blanka are harder. Blanka wasn’t a bad matchup, but I think his buffs affect the matchup more so than other characters.
From the patch notes, Bison’s match up didn’t really shift a whole lot. A few might have been easier to handle but they have made some other characters strong so there’s a bigger incentive to turtle even more. However you see that playstyle fit, I think it’s going to stay relatively the same when you average out some of the match ups.
I think the most interesting match up changes will be Hakan, Oni, Evil Ryu, and Cody.
