It’s possible depending on how the hit boxes interact. Bison’s U1 isn’t an automatic animation until after the psycho crusher part.
In vanilla, Gen’s s.mk xx hands would or would not combo on Ryu, depending on which hit stun animation Ryu went into.
It does seem unlikely though, considering how large T.Hawk’s hitbox is. You would think much smaller characters would be more likely to fall out in that case. A video would be appreciated.
I have a question regarding playing against focus-happy players. Not just happy in the sense that they’ll spam it mindlessly, but because it successfully works in shutting down my gameplan. Particularly against this one Blanka player in my community. I usually play this slow safe rushing style; I know my ranges very well and always try to pressure with scissors and/or pokes from max range so as to stay safe, or so I’d like to think… but that one player caught on to that months ago and I’ve never been able to beat him because he knows about my tendencies; he’ll focus bait from max slide range, he’ll focus bait from max lk scissors, just about anytime I gain momentum really, he just reads me well… And I haven’t been able to find an appropriate counter to this. At one point, I decided to psycho crusher 3 times in a row, from max lk scissors just to meet his focus, and all 3 did indeed land… I also thought of simply overshooting scissors (using mk instead of lk; hk instead of mk), but the risk:reward seems so heavily skewed against me that I can’t bring myself to throw a coin like that (I don’t like taking unnecessary risks nor do I like guessing too much). I’m already always worrying about the random slide, the random hop into ball, into grab, into electricity, I always have my eyes open for balls so I can jab them… which causes me to freeze up and spend more time crouching then I’d really like to. And whenever I do try to mount an offense, I can’t find momentum, especially when he has ex. If I play an even safer poking game (i.e. by whiffing s.lks to observe his reactions), then it feels like I’m just letting him set the rules and I’m constantly forced into guessing games once he gets close to me (hop shenanigans, cross ups…). Dash up throws don’t work as well, when you’re moving so scarcely in the first place, making any ballsy maneuvers easily countered/reacted to~
Or just try not falling for any focus bait and just walk up and threaten them. Sometimes even just moving a little bit will get them snapping out of it. Or sit back and just smile. I don’t feel like I have to respond to every single focus attack baiting. Yeah a stronger Knee Press will probably catch them esp on the backdash but it’s a good risk and usually in your favor if you respond quick enough.
So yeah after re watching the match after a few nights sleep I can see why the SPD grabbed me. The first knee press whiffed and as someone pointed out, the invincibility is only active at the beginning…
Anyway, cheers for the responses… …
Sorry for the crappy quality. Never buy a motorola dext!!! :razzy:
Oh yeah, Ultras aren’t invincible throughout. I thought I heard you can still punish with NMB, but I don’t play the THawk matchup that much. Anyway, yeah he can just straight up grab you if you don’t even hit him.
I don’t know about your particular case, but it becomes true when you get to a certain level. When you always know your safest options, you tend to play safe because you know the risk/reward is in your favor. The problem is, playing safe means you become predictable.
Sometimes you just have to wakeup dp to make your opponent respect it. You have to be willing to take risks in order to mindgame your opponent. You said yourself that you’re worried about Blanka doing random things, even though his options are not all safe. He’s already in your head.
As for the focus fishing, you can U2 it if you’re looking for it. Throw in a couple of unsafe scissors and PCs here and there. Once he stops fishing, you can return to your normal safe game.
When Alex Valle says you have to be random to beat him, this is what he means. Don’t get downloaded.
I feel u on this issue, but like u said psycho crusher helps deter them, also dash up throw works really well.
The main thing I do to try n stop it is by delaying my sk?s and it?ll sometimes catch em trying dash out of it, and (when u have it) start using ultra#2 when any1 focus attacks, it’ll catch em trying to dash away…u just have look for it. It?s not the easiest thing to do at first, but I think it?s something worth trying especially if u train them (st:rh helps) to FA more often. If u think they’ll see u trying to buffer ultra#2 try using cr:mk/cr:mp to hide ur buffer, most bison’s (including myself) are always pressing buttons so the opp usually won?t think much about it.
just play a scrub chun li, but her c.HK is SO GOOD, I can’t punish it with scissor on reaction (will beat it) and all her normal are GDLK if they space well, seriously, chun have some best normal in the game, not mention that EX into Ultra sht that Bison can just jealous and stomp at corner which he can only do j.mpx2 into ultra/teleport
I rush it and get a good win, but I did lost few against it, the chun overhead special is kind of annoying if space/timing right, I can only defend, anyway to punish it with out reversal? (I do it with akuma and auto correct that sht from start to end…)
I know is cheap but if is effective is call good move…how is chun being some most annoying biach since 1991
So, I’ve been working on a strat to put pressure on opponents who like to use long range normals or projectiles. Basically, I’ll walk forward, and as soon as I’m in range where they would throw out a long range poke, I hit focus and forward dash almost at the same time, so all you see is Bison absorb and dash in. If my reactions are fast enough I can punish with a throw, c. short or some times stand short RH. For characters with 3 frame reversals, I’ll dash in and block sometimes to get them to whiff a reversal then punish. It seems to work pretty well if you know the ranges of your opponent’s character and can trust your reactions.
yeah, i’ve seen this from the more higher level bisons on here, i attempt to do it but i just have terrible reactions. Ironically, this works very well against other bisons, especially those that are s. forward/roundhouse happy.
Man, we need to lab that. There are these stories floating around about being crossed up by Skull Diver and DR and shit, but no one seems able to do these things consistently. If that technology exists, there MUST be setups!
Blanka’s pretty free against Bison. He can’t do jack against cr. short. If he up balls you to get out of it, punish him on hit with roundhouse scissors or hp pc.
