Guys
I’d like to invest in a good non-insulated (largely .110) crimper. Any recommendations in this (<$100) price range? Ratcheting would be ideal, too.
Thanks,
Jim

I had the pleasure of using a variety of Weidmuller tools while assembling a nuclear facility’s hardware simulator last year, probably around 20,000 crimps, strips, and joins in the job and there wasn’t a single bad or messy crimp, and those tools worked just as well at the end of the job as they did at the beginning. Each of their hand tools run between like $30 and $80, and most of them have ratcheting action.
Good tool, but that is only for insulated terminals.
Non-insulated, I’ve recently been terribly sexual with this:

It took 2 weeks delivery to the UK, but my god… yes.
Whoops, read that too fast.
just ordered a set after ebay gave me issues about not remembering my account details… thanks ive been looking for a good set of non-insulated crimpers that would not break the bank as well.
It was another forum member who first linked that listing, though I cannot remember who it was : /
Awesome, fellas, much appreciated. I think I’ll get one of each, the linked-to insulated and the linked-to non-insulated crimpers.

The description of the harbor freight one says the it will work with insulated or “bare” terminals. Does anyone have experience using it with non-insulated qd’s (harbor freight is down the street and I wouldn’t have to wait 2 weeks)
The head is completely the wrong shape for non-insulated Japanese terminals. They might be referring to other types of ‘bare’ terminals.
Got my crimper from these guys in about 2 weeks, too. Works well. Not perfect crimps (but good, crimps), but the price is right and you can’t beat the ratcheting action - no need to worry about using too much force.
A very good deal and highly recommended.

Yes…
Once you go ratchet, you don’t go back.
Have had mine for a few weeks now and wired up two sticks, really love the crimper and it has given me a solid crimp every time. for the price it can not be beat.
I just ordered it. got way too many open barrel QDs now.
So I got these over the holidays and after figuring how to use them :\ I really LOVE the ratcheting action. I no longer have to struggle holding everything just right, makes the job that much faster. I used to HATE crimping, not its so easy.
