Dude I don’t even know wtf were talking about right now. My brain feels like jello.
It said “response time” not refresh rate. Whether that’s referring to refresh rate or input lag, your guess is as good as mine. It’s faster than my TV that’s all I know.
This has been a question since page 1. Why does my PC monitor feel CRT Smooth™ but my TV doesn’t. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle.
All I know is, am I willing to drop 250$ to shave off 4.3ms of input lag?
Yes. Yes I am.
You can tell, and now that I really sit down and test this, that Megaman feels ever so slightly “stiff” compared to actual console + CRT, but it’s highly playable, and night and day from my living room TV. I though the game was busted. Well I will have to revise my nasty email to Digital Eclipse to just talk about the embarsing sound emulation and leave out the input lag part.
3S wasn’t the best game to test, and both it and pinball arcade are still perfectly playable somehow. It’s not bad you can do a lot, lot worse, but dont ask me how I’m still able to play 3S in lag like that, must have been all those years on the original Xbox Live. You think you know input lag guess again until you’ve played SFAniversary on Xbox, which you can’t now, which had the worst input lag. Pre GGPO, the dark ages. But the fact remains somehow it’s perfectly playable on my laggy ass big living room tv, seemed decent compared to CRT, but megaman doesn’t… I don’t quite understand that. Oh well.
Anyways. So I guess my super powers are indeed g-like, I mean after all I can feel the difference between 25ms, 5ms, and 0ms of lag. Of course making a statement like that must mean I believe the Earth is flat though I mean it’s only logical to make that leap. And if you think in being serious right now then you really need to repair your sarcasm meter.
Manufacturers don’t advertise input lag because if they can’t say it’s 0 it can be construed as negative. Plus then you get the idiots blaming the maker of the display for their lag that’s related to other hardware or non-existent in the first place. I mean, they already get that but why give them another detail to misunderstand. Hell, they don’t advertise it and look at this thread. Just look at it.
Seriously this thread has caused me much stress and much wasted time over the past few days! My questions were pretty straight forward. I was called a flat earther a super hero idiot moron this that. All over monitors and input lag. Like. What. The fuck.
I did learn a lot though in the end, thanks to basically ONE MEMBER who wasn’t a complete asshole and my own research. At this point I don’t even care fuck street fighter v. Fuck gaming. Sheesh man.
You didn’t say anything. You posted a bunch of big red letters that said “refresh rate is not input lag”.
I never suggested it was and I already knew it wasn’t, but finally someone else came in to explain things to me, and it took him under two posts and less than a paragraph for me to get it.
This wasn’t a hard concept to grasp but it helps when someone actually explains things and answers questions directly instead of just loling flagging my posts and posting copy pasted info dumps of things I already know.
Shits cool now I’m not mad at Dark and actually his post on the last page was informative and helped me put the pieces together.
But you have to understand SmashBros I was put through fucking hell in this thread. I was trolled constantly by that tension guy I had people calling me names saying I’m a super hero telling me the earth was flat just very bizarre and very mean/crazy responses to what should have been a pretty cut and dry thing lol. I’m not mad at anyone it’s all good but man was it a headache for me.
Its sorta what Smash Bro said, its to help Analyze game play with some colors or something but there better tools that do the same task.
Unless you do alot of streaming and don’t want HDMI splitters to introduce any lag you got for one of the cheaper Ben Q monitors like the RL2455HM.
Both Amazon and Newegg has the monitor for sale (at the time of writing).
Just what I needed to see. Was gonna ask about recommended BenQ monitors for a decent budget. What exactly makes the monitors with “fighting game mode” good for streaming? No HDMI splitters needed?
I don’t know, but I do know that BenQ monitors have 8ms of lag, and thus are not the most optimal for fighting games. ASUS has monitors with .7ms of lag for the same price. Though you’d have faster response time than Evo or other majors…
And why is that? My guess would be BenQ has a contract/sponsorship same reason why PlayStation consoles were used in Evo over 360 despite the worse version of SFIV.
