Hey!
I’m relatively new here. I’ve been a long term Street Fighter player, but I’m very new to the whole ‘playing properly’ thing, it has started with my getting my first stick! So I’m learning to play properly, which includes breaking lots of what are apparently bad habits (I jump in A LOT…), learning how to use the stick and getting to grips with all the important fundamentals.
Usually I’m Akuma player, but most people seem to suggest that I’d be better off starting with Ryu to learn the basics, as its a similar character but a lot more forgiving etc, so I’m making the temporary switch to the light side!
So far I’ve spent most of my time in the training room, I’ve been drilling all Ryu’s specials, supers and ultras. I’ve been doing 10 in a rows, if I miss one I start over until I get 10 in a row - on both sides, then if I do all the specials flawlessly I up it by 5 the next time etc.
My special execution is pretty solid now, which was more a case of getting used to using a stick. Supers and Ultras are a tad hit or miss, sometimes I end up doing Shoryuken or EX Shoryuken instead - especially if I’m actually playing against an opponent and I rush it. (Still considering trying out an octogon gate on my stick tbh)
But what I’m here for - is to find out what basic combos I should start adding into the mix. Its all well and good looking at his Stickied Combo list or what not, but its a massive daunting list, and I want to build up to it, so basically I’d like some bread and butter combos, and Ultra set ups to start working on (preferably in a prioritised list)
I’m also going to start doing some drills to break the bad habits, probably including doing some arcade mode where I’m not allowed to jump…
Any suggestions?
