First off: I am relatively new to MvC2. I have some beginner questions that I could not find the answer to in the ‘Newbies report here’ thread. I know that thread is intended for beginners, but seeing as it is pages long I thought it wouldn’t hurt to open a new thread with questions that others may not have asked yet… Anyway, if you are an admin and think this needs to be moved to the official thread, feel free to do so… But ofcourse, thanks in advance for not doing so
Alright. I own the game on my PS2. I have been studying the abbreviations, but have questions on some of them:
Question 1: Cancelling/Super cancelling
Often people refer to cancelling and super cancelling, but what exactly is the definition? I have been practicing the magic series and I can do it over and over without slipping now (woohoo), but does that involve ‘cancelling’? And what exactly is a super cancel? And most important of all: How do you perform a cancel?
Question 2: Continous combos
In most combo videos you see very long air combos where it looks like multiple magic series (launch - kicks/punches variations) stringed together. How does this work exactly? I cannot get passed the normal 6 hit air combo, except with Wolverine where I do the vertical claw attack after the MP… but that’s just… basic.
Question 3: Cable AHVB combos
Is it possible to do multiple AHVB’s to make a single combo? If so, how?
I hope you can answer my questions. I really want to study the game to get better and be able to do awesome combo’s. Thanks in advance to everyone taking time to read this and answer my questions. For now, I’ll keep practicing.
Answer 1: Yea the magic series is canceling one normal move into another. When you do the vertical claw after MP with wolverine, you just canceled the MP (normal move) into a special move. Super cancel is when you cancel a normal move or special move into a super move. Example - ground -> LP, LP, Beserker Barrage.
Answer 2: Some characters have air dashes, so they can do 4 hits of a magic series and then air dash and do 4 more hits. Other characters have double jump or triple jump, so that’s the same idea. Other characters can link their hits instead of cancelling and sometimes it can add more hits that way.
Answer 3: Yes it’s possible. The AHVB’s have to be done very close to the ground. After Cable lands, he can immediately jump and do another one and it will combo.
So cancelling means: Performing a move that ‘overrides’ the previous move? S.LP - S.MP - Berserker Barrage means that you use the Special to cancel the MP ? And can you do anything after that to keep the combo going or is the recovery time for the super too long?
Couple of other questions that came to mind after browsing the forum instead of working…
What does the abbreviation RH stand for? i.e. S.RH
What characters can do an Air Dash and how do you do it? SJ and then press R1 (PP) ?
Yep that’s what cancelling means. If you are in the corner, you can hit the opponent with c.LK afterwards. Or, before the last hit of beserker barrage, you can cancel into another super with your next character.
RH stands for Roundhouse. In Marvel, it means HK.
Air dash characters are Magneto, Storm, Morrigan, Tron, Chun Li, Venom?, Spiderman?, Dr. Doom, Blackheart, Dhalsim, and probably some others that I can’t remember…
I can now do 3 AHVB’s in a row… I’m guessing that’s the limit to it. What I can’t do is LP-LK-HK-AHVB… It just feels like it takes too long to recover from the HK… Does that mean I’m not fast enough yet?
you have to cancel the HK to sj.ahvb <i’m not sure if that’s the right term>.after the hk hits, w8 for a few millisecs but don’t wait for it to finish then do the ahvb. watch for vids for the timing.
so you have practiced the motion for AHVB. now input that motion during the s.HK animation (wait a bit after you press the button). do not wait for the HK to recover.
Is that the same motion you do when performing the AHVB? (Move the stick from down in half a circle motion upwards)
Yes, thanks for helping me out peeps. If anyone is interested, I made a Word document that contains all the information the SRK wiki has on MvC2. I can convert it to a PDF as well. It’s got a nice front cover, index table, page numbers, etc… I made it so I can study it when I’m not home. If anyone is interested in it, PM me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you
